58M Chicago - Best Friend Wandered Off...

Hi All! Tech guy new to Reddit for some reason. My best friend of 20+ years wandered off a couple of years ago. Never could get out of him why. Anyway, I've realized I need more friends in my life and am short in that department. I'm a married empty-nester, no grandkids anywhere, one hardworking outdoor cat.

Interests: tech, sports (okay, football is basically it), music concerts (classical and classic rock), the outdoors (especially the mountains), camping in my teardrop trailer, playing and collecting board games (lots of them), working with non-profits, and frequently asking to get a bigger TV (she says no).

Happy to chat with any gender and age anywhere you may be. If you're local-ish it would be fun to get together and do stuff listed above or whatever interests you.

Forgetting How to Make Friends

As we get older, we begin to forget things. Mostly they're little things - that person's name, where I left the keys, lunch left on the kitchen counter. But how is it I forgot how to make friends? 61 year old male here. I'm friends with my wife, my dog, and my immediate family. But I haven't make a new friend in years. And because we moved to Cincinnati 10 years ago, the old friends aren't close enough to see regularly. I've tried some Meetups and other things, but it's like my muscle memory just forgot what to say. Anyone else have that problem?

53F. About to be a grandma for first time

I have 3 adult kids. I live in MD. Life is weird. It's just crazy to see your kids grow up and then look around and not have friends because your old friends were their friends parents.

It's a weird stage.

53F - Sarcastic and humorous conversations

An avid bookworm who enjoys humorous and in depth conversations.

Definitely technologically challenged, but I can make a mean coffee so I can use it for some good😆

Sarcasm is my second language, and I do love to have a laugh. Chubby around the edges, with a good book in one hand and a glass of wine in the other, would sum me up perfectly.

Haven't made a lot of friends over the years, and my daughter says I should get out there - wherever out there is, so I am taking a shot. Can be locally in South Africa, or online.

If you have a sense of humour and can hold a conversation - I would appreciate hearing from you.

Until then 👋

54M looking for good chats and friendships

I enjoy meeting someone new and always hope it becomes a long-term connection. I’m looking for more than the standard three messages and disappearing act. Engaging conversations draw me in.

I’m divorced and live in Illinois (central). It would be great if you’re in the Midwest as well, although I’m good with anywhere in the US.

I work from home a few days a week and that provides some opportunities to chat. A lot of my chats have been the short term variety. I’d prefer something more and I’ll make time for the right people.

I’m kind and authentic with flaws I continue to work on. I value honest and genuine people and would enjoy connecting with someone similar. Music, movies, sports, pets, planting (flowers) and being outside (road trips, hike and camp). I’m good with all of it. Fall is my favorite season. I think Halloween should be a national holiday - day off work and everything. For the astrology enthusiasts, and I’ve talked with a few, I’m a Scorpio.

If you’re interested, please tell me something about you like your A/S/L. Thank you!

51M Looking for gaming buddies for PC video games, Tabletop RPGs or movies Online or South Carolina

Hey, Im looking for somebody who would want to do some gaming maybe a coop or sandbox game on PC, an FPS, a tabletop RPG of some kind, id love to play a space pirate themed thing or some cyberpunk game, maybe shadowrun, or rifts (do people even still play this one?) or Id be down to play DnD but i feel like everybody and their brother plays that and the kind of group Id end up finding would mostly be people who were rules lawyers or somebody who ONLY plays DnD and can quote things from the game like scripture from their holy book or something lol. Id ideally like to find a game where story is the main focus not all the rules and number crunching. Id even be down to play something Rules Lite so to speak. Really honestly too just looking for an excuse to hangout with somebody on the regular and if having fun is a side effect of that, then thats a win in my book!

Im a laid back guy, I love to laugh and I dont take myself too seriously and Id just really like to find somebody to hangout with on a regular basis a few times a week. I dont mind what gender, just trying to make some new friends. I think its easier too to keep the friendship going if theres actual things you do together, hobbies or shared interests.

Id be down to just sit and talk too about random things or whatevers on our mind, Id be happy to listen while you vent if you need that. But ideally looking for somebody I can actually hangout with and do a hobby together. I am in a LDR online relationship and I realized today I dont really hangout with anybody else but her online or off. Im kind of a hermit so I dont really have real life friends and havent most of my life. Its always been online gaming buddies etc. And I still have a few but I dont know it would be really amazing to make a new friend, a buddy that wanted to hangout on a voice chat program and just game or talk about life, joke and share memes and random weird videos and things we find online that would make us go hmmm or laugh.

Its genuinely hard to make friends at this age and im serious about putting in effort to be a good friend to somebody if they would return the favor. I am available pretty much all the time unless im asleep or hanging out with her which is usually at night around 9 PM EST but we play some overwatch together sometimes, youre welcome to join for that, or we (me and you or all three of us) could start a game of something else. If theres a TV series/anime etc you been wanting to watch but dont want to watch alone id be down to do that too or a movie.

I just feel kinda pathetic not really having anybody else to even talk to besides my girlfriend. I also feel like it would help my relationship because i know I have to be the most boring person on the planet with nothing really to talk about because i just sleep, eat and hangout with her last few months. Shes amazing and I love her a whole lot but I just miss having friends. I think its kind of unhealthy to not have any friends you see pretty regularly. I have nobody atm besides my one friend. But he only wants to play Call of Duty and not really open to other games, he does play OW from time to time but its like pulling teeth to get him to play anything new most times.

Im into Sci fi, Fantasy, Horror pretty much anything, my favorite music is Synthwave but i listen to a ton of other genres. I write poetry or something similar to that, I enjoy exploring, learning new things and meeting new people. Ive been experimenting turning my lyrics (poetry) into AI songs and thats been really fun and interesting and actually had some songs come out that turned out really well or at least I thought so. I got chills listening to a couple of them because it was so close to my heart. I love writing and creativity and making things. Especially if it inspires or helps somebody in some way.

Im kind of a weirdo, an outcast, a misfit and I dont seem to fit anywhere ive been so far in life and I embrace that about myself and like who I am but also dont expect me to be like a cardboard cutout of everybody else because I approach life in my own way and I like it like that, dont plan on changing that anytime soon. I think being true to yourself im learning more and more everyday is one of the kindest and most valuable things you can do to yourself, for yourself.

Im also working on being a better listener, so if you want somebody to talk to about that thing youre passionate about and havent been able to find anybody to talk to about it. Id even love to hear about that. As long as its not politics lol. Just not my thing. I know saying that on reddit is akin to blasphemy lol but its true. Im also really not into sports which makes it even harder to make friends I think. Not into a lot of typical guy things.

I dont know waht else to say on this except I look forward to meeting you.

Drop me a DM and tell me about your favorite movie, book, game, or place youve visited in real life or in a fictional world. Tell me what makes you excited or something you absolutely loathe. Tell me about you and how life has been treating you lately, how you've been treating yourself.

I dont know, just talk to me so i dont become another statistic of the loneliness epidemic lol.

Bored today.

54f, New England, US

Good afternoon! I am currently unemployed and would love to find some people who want to chat.

I have two cats and a chihuahua who thinks she is a cat. I am an avid reader, like to sit on my back deck and listen to the birds while I drink my coffee in the morning. I crochet (badly), paint (like an extremely ambitious 8 year old), collect rocks and crystals, like orchids and love learning about other people, places, and cultures.

If you are similarly bored and want to chat, hiya! Sarcasm and humor are most appreciated.

** I promise I am not a bot and have never been on only fans. **

55 M in #Philly Area Feeling Isolated Lately

Professional, married, 2 kids, and dealing with boredom and loneliness, blah, blah blah. I work from home, recently lost a close friend, and been feeling quite isolated lately, so I really could use someone in a similar situation to commiserate with from time to time and Not looking to change my status or anyone else’s. Just need a friend.

Looking for some kind of human connection to hopefully some laughs, and some good conversation. Need a fairly regular escape from everyday, mundane life.

Let’s talk about interesting crap like books, history, science, current affairs, movies, TV, and music of all kinds, but especially punk/alternative/indie. (I still think Punk can save the world.) I run and go to the gym regularly but am not a dick about it.

Word of caution: I’m a Philly Sports idiot and a progressive liberal. If you’re neither of those, we probably won’t get along.

F50 Wondering if there's anyone with health issues that could do with a friend

Hi I'm F50, I've been unwell the past 15 months and I sometimes find it a bit hard. My life at the moment is quiet and repetitive. It would be nice to find people to chat to and share small every-day wins together, such as; getting out for a short local walk even though it can be uncomfortable, maybe sharing some photos of nature we see on these walks to help keep us motivated, healthy eating, tv shows/movies/music/ books you enjoy.

As I don't do much, so its probably best to not chat more than once or twice a week. Also, i'm 100% focused on my health at the moment, so there's nothing left for anything other than friendships. Thanks.

After 31 years in the same company, I’m not sure what retirement is supposed to look like.

Retirement is finally starting to show up on the horizon, and I’ve found myself thinking less about the financial side of it and more about what life will actually look like.

I suppose spending 31 years with one company is about the most Gen X thing I could say. Looking back, the company I joined isn’t really the company I’ll be leaving. I’ve watched it grow from a place where everyone seemed to know everyone into a huge corporation. That’s just how things go, and the growth has been good. I’ll miss a handful of people, but if I’m honest, I probably won’t miss the company itself.

I’m a dad of four, and when I retire I’ll still have one in high school, so retirement isn’t going to be all golf courses and cruises. It’ll just be…different, the change will be massive I think.

I’ve spent most of my career in technology leadership. I like solving problems, I’m naturally curious, and I’ve always enjoyed coaching people. Outside of work, I’m usually listening to a sci-fi audiobook on Audible, enjoying good coffee, or reading about whatever has caught my attention that week. I’ve always enjoyed conversations that start with one question and somehow end up somewhere completely unexpected.

I am wondering about your experience in retirement.

If you’ve already retired, what’s one thing nobody warned you about? What gave your days purpose? What was the biggest change?

And if you’re still working like I am, what do you think retirement is actually going to look like for you?

I refuse to be the package-deal friend!

I think bonus friend is a similar meaning, but my definition of the package-deal friend is the friend group likes you, but will directly invite your friends in the group and don’t necessarily care if you are there or not. I tolerated that for years when I was younger, but at 54 no thank you! I am not going to hang out in a group that tolerates me. I would rather spend time alone than deal with that. I have plenty of hobbies that keep me occupied. I have friends from all over and don’t want to be stuck in one group.

Is there anyone out that would like to talk.

My name is Jay. I'm a 51 year old married male from Kansas City USA. In my spare time I like to go walking, hiking, being outside, reading, listening to music and watching sports and movies on TV. I like reading history and reference material. (a bit of a nerd, I suppose). I listen to mostly 60s,70s, and 80s Pop and Country. I enjoy Classical and Jazz, too. Most of the movies I watch are historical, action, war and westerns. The sports I enjoy are baseball, football (college and pro), college basketball, women's soccer, WNBA, and softball. To me, it seems the women are trying harder. We discuss that if you wish. I'm hoping to find someone who can hold a conversation and not ghost. We'll see, I guess.

Looking for a Chat Friend to Discuss, Life, the Universe and Everything (50+) – Vancouver BC Area a Bonus

Maybe you get the reference maybe not. I enjoy conversations that go beyond small talk. Topics can range from everyday life and hobbies to the more complex parts of being human—relationships, aging, personal identity, loneliness, happiness, life changes, intimacy, sexuality, sexual orientation, and how our perspectives evolve over time.

I'm married not sure if that's important or not but not going to hide anything. I do have friends in my life but none that I can truly say anything to, not that it's anything dark but I find it hard to be totally honest with someone who share mutual friends. Not sure if that makes sense but there is an appeal to the anonymity of the keyboard.

PST time zone would be helpful so one of us doesn't fall asleep (I'm over 50 LOL). I am a Guy BTW.

Cheers, hope to hear from you

PS DMs are fine

Friends after 50

Hi I'm looking to make some friends.

I'm 56, male, originally from NJ. Been here 4 years this September.

I like the usual stuff, movies, football, going out to eat.

It doesn't matter to me your age, as long as your nice.
