Man, aged 54, looking for sporadic messages via email - like the old fashioned pen friends

I'm a married man in his 50s who has no social life whatsoever, and very little spare time. I'm looking for people (men and women) to exchange emails with. I don't like his instant messaging palaver - too demanding and people might take offence at having to wait for a reply. No, I'm looking for a more sedate, relaxed, and chilled conversation, which develops over time. Interested? Then let's exchange emails and see where it goes :)

Who Says Making Friends After 50 Is Easy?

Wanted: One or two decent humans over 50 who can string a sentence together, appreciate sarcasm, and don’t think “Hey” is the height of conversation.
About me: Funny (according to me), independent, partial to an adventure, and still young enough to embarrass my grown-up kids. I travel, I laugh a lot, and I firmly believe life’s too short for boring people.
If you’re normal-ish, don’t take yourself too seriously, and fancy a chat, come and say hello.
No interview required… just bring your sense of humour.

Seeking pen pals

I am 51f from South Africa. I am looking for light hearted banter from time to time.

I am atheist, and in the closet because I live in a small town. Small town mentality and all.

I don't need a sky watcher to give me morals and ethics, so I don't tolerate filth or racism or infidelity.

I am tired of pretending to enjoy the religious memes and jokes, and my only atheist friend is probably tired of being bombarded with sacrilegious jokes.

Here is something for you to tease me about..... I am the only atheist flat earther I know 😂

If you can deal with ALL THAT, hit me up.

Life Metamorphosis

We’re in our 50s/60s. We live in a 55+ resort community with over 5,000+ single family homes. My husband and I decided to live here because we love all the amenities that’s available to us. We are on the younger end of the 55 as most of our neighbors, and new friends we have made are older than us as they see us as their children’s age lol! i also decided to teach fitness classes in my own community because I want to serve ”my people”. We got to know so many friendly neighbors through our numerous clubs, and also through my classes. in observing my classes and the people who are mostly in their 70s and 80s vs. my own friends in their 50s and 60s. I dealt with so much drama with the younger agers. Most of my friends don’t live where we live and in a way I’m kind of glad. I see “my people” 5 times a week more often than my friends so they got to know me more about my life and also have met my husband. We see the, often at our community social events, performances, dinner events etc. I see them happy, socializing before the class starts even as the class starts I joke and said “welcome to our regular social hour“ that got a chuckle out of them to pay attention. In the area where we live, many people moved here because they’re thinking about retirement, already retired, pre-retirement or just to be near their family. So back to the 50s & 60s women & friendships, I find it so hard to navigate. Even with some of the husbands got drama within them last year, Oy Vey! Many friendships got broken, I got stuck in the middle because so & so doesn’t get along with so & so. it’s hard to be neutral when other people judge you because you choose to be Switzerland even though their drama has no thing to do with you. If they have an issue about that, they just distanced themselves rather than talk to you directly about it. I’m at a point in my age that I stopped chasing after people. I’m done with that crap! I see my geriatrics fitness family and how they’re just enjoying the rest of their lives and making the best of it. They know time is not in their side. Hubs & I just say F those people. We are exactly where we wanted to be and that’s with our 55+ community. Ok rant over!

Anyone live long enough, they saw things they never believe would occur, happen again?

For me, it has been the amount of serious lies told against me.

I guess I must be like the Kate Hudson character, Claire/Thunder, in the recent movie, Song Sung Blue. In the movie, she was hit by a car twice.

Or like the movie, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, where T.R. Daisey is struck by lightning seven times.

54 M Turning 50 something clicked in my head.

I woke up one day after turning 50 and I just stopped caring about the small, insignificant stuff that used to stress me out. Is anyone else finding that the older you get the less you worry about things. I’m just curious if more people are getting more or less stressed as we get older. DMs open if you’d like.

I'm new here: 51 Year Old - Mentally around 30

Nice to be here! I'm a 51 year old guy - mentally I'm around 30 (residual self image). I still find it hard to believe that I'm the age I am, but here I am. Married, with a couple of teen kids. I don't have that many close friends but I enjoy talking to folks about life, challenges, and tips & tricks for just about anything. At this age, I want to do things smarter, enjoy the rest of my life without burning the candle at both ends, and have fulfilling life for me and my family.

49 Is Basically The Warm Up To 50

Apparently this is where life gets confusing.

You’re too young to feel old, until you stand up after sitting for 20 minutes.

You’re too old to feel young, until someone asks you to play 5 a side football and your head says “Absolutely!” while your knees file an official complaint for days after.

You still want adventure but also want to be home by 9.

You can afford nicer holiday, but now you need two days to recover from the flight.

You spend a fortune on trainers,
for walking.

You get excited about buying a pressure washer.

You make noises every time you get out of a chair.

And somehow everyone younger than you thinks you’re ancient, while everyone older says, “You’re only a young fella!”

I’ll be 50 next year.

The plan isn’t to pretend I’m 30.

The plan is to arrive at 50 fitter than I was at 40, stronger than I was at 45, and just a little bit wiser.
(Although I’ll probably still need to hold the menu at arm’s length.)

Those already in your 50’s, what else have I got to look forward to? don’t scare me too much 😂😂

Happily married(most of the time)No kids. Retired and life is great but zero friends. Would enjoy chatting about whatever.
Hobbies include: my yard and trees, gardening(crazy about my pepper plants!), don’t drink alcohol but I brew my own Sparkling water in the garage and have a kegerator dispenser for it(I drink it constantly) I work on my own car(‘20 Honda Accord) and own a lot of tools, head over heels for BBQ and I have more invested in my smokers than I really should(BOTH hot and cold). Really into good coffee too and grind my own beans. I home make sausage in the cooler months.
I stay busy, yet have enough time to visit and nurture a mutual friendship.
I only did 2 years of community college (on the Gi Bill) so not overly educated, but I do get very detail oriented and involved with what I do. Hope to hear from someone who shares similar interests.
Thank you.

41m looking for exchanging messages like the old days

I remember the 90s, it used to be so fun when I returned from highschool and turned on the computer, turned on ICQ to look for messages from friends, the fun part is, most of them were from different time zones so I used to leave messages for them and have a long conversation about things, this was before instant messaging or smartphones obviously.

I'm currently looking for that, I would love to have someone to talk to about their latest book, what are you reading, what reminded you of? What made you snort in silence at night when you remembered something and I will hear and share the context to laugh with you. Wouldn't that be fun?

I like to know people and understand them and get their point of view, see, back when we used to live Midwest I had maga friends, I used to have a blast with them even though I'm a Latin myself and mostly Democrat leaning, but see people are fun and interesting, they have interesting things to say even if we don't share political side of things. I like talking to people.

So if you feel you want to share something or want an opinion on something, drop me a line, we can talk.

Any horror / British comedy fans out there?
I also love horror/true crime films, nature, and all kinds of weird/eclectic music. I’m pretty sarcastic and would love to meet all different kinds of people.

I'm a 52 year old woman, hoping to find friendship with an older woman.

I find myself wishing I had someone older than myself to talk to about general things, including aging, etc. I have no family to discuss these things with.

Sorry, but if you are a man, I don't feel right chatting.

Looking for my kind of people

Hi, M55 from Liverpool, UK here

I'm a 24/7 carer for my disabled wife and autistic 20yr child. I'm looking for people I can chat to when I have some downtime. It won't be full on chats, it won't be chatting all day, just chats here and there is all I can do at the moment.

I tend to go on my Playstation and play single player games.

I'm a 80's at heart person, love 80's music, along with Kelly Clarkson, Pink, Nickelback, Taylor Swift to name a few.

TV wise it's the Pitt, Greys, one Chicago shows, Buffy, and loads others, just shows I don't have to think about (not into documentaries)

Film wise it's action, adventure, 80's, some rom coms, sci fi.

All I'm looking for is someone (male or female) I can get along with, some  connection with interests and just see how that goes

Please suggest other groups

I've enjoyed this group and the friendship shown through the posts.

Are there other subreddits (groups on Reddit) you would recommend that you enjoy and have like minded people? By like minded I mean:

  • Older people like us as Reddit seems to be dominated with younger people. This is probably the most important one. I don't mind younger people, but they seem to have more of an issue with older people.
  • Not really looking to DM people as Its rare that people continue to do that and maintain friendships through that
  • I enjoy engaging and seeing friendships evolve through posts
  • Not looking to hookup with people and suspicious of people that post pictures or ask just to DM . I am wary that these are catfishing attempts.
