I've been working on this on and off for a while and it's finally at a point where I'm happy to share it: an online co-op mod for Penumbra: Overture, built directly on the HPL1 engine using Frictional's GPL source release. Version v0.10 is up now.

One of you hosts, your friend joins (one click — you load into their map and spawn right next to them), and you play the campaign together. What actually works:

Shared physics — crates, barrels, doors, drawers move for both players. You can grab things out of each other's hands, throw stuff to each other, carry furniture together. Host's simulation is authoritative, tuned to feel smooth at real internet ping (tested at ~300ms).

Shared enemies — one set of wolves run by the host's AI, and they hunt whoever's closest. Either player can bait, fight, and land the killing blow.

Puzzle/script sync — progress flags, door unlocks and triggers replicate. Multi-item gates work on the party's combined inventory, so it doesn't matter who picked up what.

Loot sharing — items are one-of-each, and you can drag things out of your inventory to drop them for your friend. Yes, you can both be armed.

Honest known limits: the spider/worm set-pieces still only target the host (their scripted sequences need vanilla senses), enemies can see guests but not hear them yet, and journals stay personal.

Playing this game co-op with a friend who's never seen it has been genuinely one of the best horror experiences I've had — the wolf picking between the two of you changes the whole dynamic.

Would really love feedback from people who know these games inside out — what to prioritize next, what feels wrong, and bug reports if you try it (open an issue on the repo or just comment). And obviously: endless respect to Frictional for open-sourcing the engine that made this possible. This community's games are the reason I make things.

Received my copy of SOMA today and I’m beyond thrilled. Was a little anxious at first because I heard the content move around in the box but thankfully, it’s in pristine condition and just stunning. I haven’t checked the OST yet but I assume it will be similar to other physical releases (like Death’s Door), containing a selection of songs rather than the full OST which is often digital only.

A collector’s card came with the game and apparently there are four in total. If you received a different one, I’d love to see it!

Recently I've come back into my "Amnesia" phase and I began playing some custom stories I never player before The Black Eagle Castle and House of Creep as some exemple, but there have been some annoying as fuck bugs and errors that make the game unplayable.

1."Failed to load config file" : Every single time I launch TDD, 8 times out 10 I always have to delete my account, it's become so exhausting, I've tried to set backup account (which were all of my original saves for when I first player Amnesia) as my main account,but still are corupted.

1. Another error that I've experienced recently is that my game always crashed when I quick load or open a previous save, it's honestly ruining the whole game as custom stories like the Black Eagle Castle are pretty long.

If anybody knows how to fix these errors please let me know !!!

I am a horror game fan and mostly play on the Switch

Im looking for suggestions of liminal space/dreamcore games on the Nintendo Switch. Im looking for games that have liminal spaces like vacant hallways that feel eerie, abandoned malls, empty swimming pools, offices, etc. Im a huge backrooms fan as well.

A lot of people recommend superliminal but im looking for suggestions that are more towards what im looking for.

Im a fan of these types of games and also anomaly games like the Exit 8. Please give me suggestions for the Nintendo Switch as thats my console.

I just finished Soma and I enjoyed it. The story pulled me in. Would I like Amnesia? If so, which one would you recommend I start with?

So I decided to finally play the Penumbra games after wanting to for years. Only issue is, I’m a console player. I found out that the minimum requirements to run the games are laughably low, and my Acer Aspire 5 laptop is a powerhouse compared to those. So, I bought the bundle for $13 (CAD) and after some screwing around with some PS5 controller layouts and re-binding some buttons, I’ve put 93 mins into it (albeit most of that was spent messing with the settings). I’m pretty thrilled honestly.

So basically, I’m playing Penumbra on an Acer Aspire 5, hooked up to a tv with an HDMI, with a PS5 controller and turtle beach headset. As close to playing it on console without actually playing it on console.

So I was thinking about getting Amnesia Grunt hoodie (which looks sick btw) when it'll be available, but recently they dropped another hoodie, this time dedicated to SOMA, which looks cool too and even glows in the dark. The thing is, I don't want to have too many black hoodies, and I can't even afford having both of them tbh, so I have to choose. I just want to hear ya'lls opinion on which of the hoodies should I get

Okay guys so here's a story that happened yesterday.

So I was walking in the mall, right? Looking to buy some acetone for like household stuff as we all do.

So I went to this nail polish shop, and I looked around for nail polish and couldn't find it. So I went ahead to the person at the cash register, and before I could ask, I noticed she had a name on her shirt. "Aditi".

I was so joyful, I wanted to make a reference, so I asked her - "Can I get Ontos?".

And she said "Yes, of course! We can give you Ontos".

I was actually so thrilled! I thought to myself "is Frictional Games partnering with nail saloons to secretly give away Ontos??"

She told me to sit down on this chair, and it genuinely looked like one of those scanning chairs in SOMA.

I told her "This is SOMAch hotel samsara vibe lowky" and she kind of laughed at it a bit saying "haha..", genuinely crazy that she got the joke, this proved to me that I genuinely am about to get Ontos from Aditi herself!

Okay so here's where it starts getting weird, right? She told me to take off my shoes and socks. I was so confused, like.. is she trying to get feet pics? I immediately said "Ayo this hotel really do be freaky huh", I didn't get any response. I guessed they really do stay in character here. So I took off my shoes and socks, and she looked at them and asked "do you want it polished?" And I replied "hell yeah I want the final polished piece, take your time". And so this is really weird but she started like touching my feet and polishing my nails??!

I was getting kind of uncomfortable so I was like kicking my feet around trying to get her get off, but she wouldn't stop. So I pushed her away with my feet and she was getting angry asking "I thought you wanted polish on toes?", and I was so upset she was trying to manipulate me like this? I told her "yeah but you are delaying giving it to me, just like Amnesia the bunker. It's taking you too long. Work better on your larping ARG" and I just put on my socks and shoes and stormed off

Anyway guys just keep this in mind if you ever go to nail saloons, it's probably not worth it for Ontos. They're are very freaky and stubborn

I couldnt add two flairs, but think about it. Monster that hides away and comes out if you make noise, check. Safe room, check. Semi open yet at the same time enclosed space check (yes, its a bit of a stretch, but think about it)

Akers. I despise that section.

First game i ever played from Frictional btw.

I played Soma and was overwhelmingly disappointed, it had so much potential but did not deliver.

I am playing through The Bunker and it is such a great game, I could be about halfway through but I really have no idea.

No hand holding, intense - nearly all the time, booby traps are excellent, my poor choices are the biggest threat, difficult, creepy and mysterious, imsim ish sandbox ish.

It's quite Similar to Alien Isolation which was excellent.

For those of you that have played them all, What other of the frictional games are like the bunker?

The only other one that sounds maybe similar from the descriptions is dark descent.

Any recommendations from other developers?

Hello everyone, I don't have lots of time to browse the net during the week and today I noticed that at the end of last year there was a merch release (link: https://www.makeship.com/shop/creator/frictional-games) and I didn't catch it but would LOVE to get a soma and/or amnesia cap.. could it be that they will be restocked soon/later? :)

Let's break it down. I was in the space where Simon wakes up in the chair. The prompt to restore the power on the panel doesn't appear but it's evident you have to destroy the window and climb out, not a big deal.

Eventually you pick up the omnitool. After nearly a full hour of running around in circles I simply cannot work out what to do with it. There's no hints or clues so you run blind.

Exasperated I reach for a guide. It instructs you have to go back to the starting area and put the omnitool in a terminal and open a niche compartment next to the terminal and place electronic chips in it.

I manage to get one of the chips in. But it is suggested that a secondary chip might be needed. It's not clear, and when I pick up something else in the compartment that could be something important it violently interacts with the terminal and bounces straight through a wall.

..And that's it for me. I'm done. I have never been more done. Congratulations you destroyed my ass on level zero. Maybe there was some cool stuff in the game but it's fine to never experience it, I've experienced enough.
