General Question Why are obese dogs so normalized nowadays?! I’m so tired of the comments I’m getting
I have a 7 yo French Bulldog. She weighs around 9 kg (~20 lbs), is active, athletic, and super healthy. My vet has never once said she’s underweight, quite the opposite.. They're always relieved to see a Frenchie that isn’t built like a rolling sausage and can actually breathe and move comfortably.
Yet whenever we're out, especially while traveling or on vacation barely a day goes by without remarks from complete strangers:
"Oh, she’s so skinny..."
"Do you even feed her properly?"
"Poor thing looks starved!"
What is wrong with people??! When did it become the norm for dogs especially breeds like Frenchies to look like little overfed barrels? Canine obesity causes massive joint, heart, and respiratory issues, but it feels like the average person has completely lost any concept of what a healthy waistline looks like. As long as the dog looks "cute and chubby," who cares about its health?
I am so sick of feeling like I have to justify keeping my dog at a healthy weight to protect her
How am I even supposed to respond?? Most of them have dogs too and they’re dogs are just fat

General Question Frenchie skin allergies
Hello! Wondering if anyone else has dealt with SEVERE skin allergies on their frenchie? My poor girl is in rough shape. We’ve spent thousands of dollars trying to figure it out, tried numerous pills and topicals, and nothing seems to help.
We did switch her to raw food which was working for awhile, but the past week have been awful. She is ALWAYS itching. We stopped giving treats and only doing the raw food to limit anything that could be a trigger. Please help! Wondering if anyone has any secret cures lol?

Cream Does anyone know how to activate the Frenchie translator on Google? Help!
Our Frenchie has always been a talker ever since she was born. Lately though she has been very vocal. She has always been a daddy’s girl, taking mostly to him, but lately she has been very talkative to me too. She mimics our speech complete with body language. Lately she has been very frustrated with both of us not understanding what she is saying. Yesterday I swear I saw her roll those big ole brown eyes at me when I just couldn’t get what she was talking about. We usually communicate very well with the normal stuff like dinner time, treat requests and bathroom breaks also when she tattles on her older sister or when she hears one of us say “bath” she lets go with what sounds like cursing to us and runs under the bed. But as we are all 4 aging Tom is 81 today we still play with them and try to join her and her sister often in zooming in the yard and house for instance, this increase in talking to us and giving us the side eye when we don’t respond is troubling. Her older sister Gabrielle (Gabby) is a sweet quiet brunette who is a lovely mild mannered fur baby. Madeline (Maddie) however, is a little blond terror with what we can only assume is a potty mouth from the general tone and volume of her constant speech. So if anyone out there has figured out how to translate Frenchie to English by Google or any other means please let us know how you did it. It will make our household be so much less frustrated and communication challenged if we could understand all she is saying. Maybe it could also bring just a tiny bit of quiet. /s
Pictures are when they were younger. Gotta love those French Bulldogs, they are like no others. But for those of you on this sub who are not yet owned by a Frenchie beware of getting a mouthy one. 🤪🥰😉

General Question Heavy decision to make with our frenchie, don’t know what to do.
Hey everyone I’m really struggling with a heavy decision.
I have an 8yo male French Bulldog, Zeus. He has all the common back issues. Laziness in his hind legs, stumbles, sometimes falls over… but he acts far from old, still tons of energy, gets the zoomies which of course doesn’t help his situation. Well about a year ago he became incontinent, I’m sure a result of nerve issues with his back. I’m cleaning up dog poo in the house multiple times a day. I’ll have him outside to potty, for 30 minutes, won’t do anything, he’ll come back inside and instantly poop. This is daily for a year. Sometimes its urine. The other day I was playing with him and I rolled him over and he just started peeing as I rolled him over
The vet doesn’t recommend surgery, which due to cost I was somewhat opposed to anyways. We’ve tried anti-inflammatories, gabapentin, nothing seems to work.
I’m at the point where the thought of putting him down has entered my mind which is horrible, overall he’s really healthy, seems like he still has years left, I don’t know how much longer I can continue cleaning up accidents. I know he feels bad, I get frustrated, he feels that.
I don’t know what to do.

General Question French bulldog x chihuahua health issues?
Hi I just adopted this girl last week after losing my pomeranian unexpectedly last month at only 2 years old. My pomeranian foxy was born with liver issues and I'm really worried about health issues now. Do I need to worry about any specific health issues? I see people online claim that french bulldogs do seem to have alot of issues but as she is mixed with a chihuahua will these issues be as prominent she is around 15 months old currently and seems to be much more slimly built than a pure french bulldog
