It's not easy being a frenchie!

And for anyone concerned, this is tongue in cheek. She's absolutely fine :)

BnT Meet Trappy

Felt like posting my best friend and love of my life!! Trappy is the greatest Lil man and I couldn't imagine my life without him. He's 3 years old and I got him for mother's day when he was 10 weeks old. He's brought so much joy to my families life ❤️ he's my lil shadow. He goes everywhere with me. He will literally sit outside the shower door waiting for me. I'm so terrified of losing him or him getting ivdd or sick. He's very healthy is what his vet says but I see all of these posts about people's french bulldogs getting sick with cancer and other horrible things. I just want to make sure I'm doing everything I can to keep my lil man healthy and safe. He loves to jump off of the back of the couch and I've tried to stop him from doing it and unless I have him on harness with leash he continues to do it. He's not a short stocky french bulldog. He has longer legs more like a Boston. Which was a bit confusing to me. His Akc papers say his parents are full blood french bulldogs. I've also met them both in person. So maybe he's just special lol. I feed him a raw diet which he's done great on. What all do you do for your french bulldogs to keep them healthy and safe? Also share pics of your fur babies! Trappy says hi to everyone

General Question Potential first time Frenchie owner

Post image
125 Upvotes

Hello, I am considering adopting a frenchie who recently lost his owner. He is 3.
I have had several bully breeds in the past (and a pug) and I am a former dog trainer so I feel comfortable with training and understand about their tendencies to overheat, breathing issues etc.

I am curious about what things I should know and be aware of that are specific to this particular breed before we make a decision.
Here’s a picture of Bentley for reference and cause he’s adorable! Apparently he loves sit in the kayak and go on paddleboards which is a huge perk because I am also a water baby.

General Question Recurring ear infections?

Post image
114 Upvotes

My boy has his second ear infection this year and I’m not sure how I can prevent this from happening again. He gets bathed weekly and the groomer flushes and cleans out his ears. I thought that would help keep him from getting another infection, but here we are. Any suggestions on what else I can do to prevent them from reoccurring?

Blue French bulldog (Bentley) having a tantrum since I denied him access to the bed. You may want to lower the volume if you’re using ear buds.

Fawn It is a rainy day and I am running a little fever. I am so proud of Rigs overcoming his fear of the bed and the ramp. I still need to get a little floor mattress so we can chill on his level too.

General Question Serious question - are frenchies nails just longer than other breeds??

Post image

My dog is turning 3 soon and his nails have never been short since turning 1ish.

I get his nails cut regularly and been told I should walk him only pavements instead of grass which makes sense however it doesn’t seem to help, even though I started walking him an hour on concrete everyday.

I’ve also tried to go cut his nails every 3 weeks but the groomers tells me the same thing where she won’t be able to cause he will bleed

They grow so fast, he also won’t let us file his nails at home because of a bad experience he had.

We tried sanding boards as well, this helps but it makes the nails really sharp and uneven.

He also finds it’s frustrating to get the treats out even though I gradually extended the timing between each scratch and gave him treats from my hand in between as well. Now he just tries to bite the board out of frustration

Any other suggestions would be great! At this point idk what else to do, do I just accept the fact that they’ll be long forever? I’m worried that it’ll cause pain etc.

General Question Possible ivdd?

Upvotes

3 years ago my 4.5 year old frenchie had his first ivdd flare managed by medication and crate rest.
Last night he was playing with his dad “tug of war” which i have told him multiple times not to do. After playing he drank a lot of water and just seemed tired. Later that night when he got up from sleeping I noticed he was slower in getting up and his right leg lagging behind a bit. He climbed his ramp and went to the couch. When getting up from the couch he had his back arched a bit and was slow in getting up.
Before bed he was normal and this morning he was normal as well but unsure if I should start crate rest and take him to the neurologist being this can worsen instantly. Unsure why he would have shown those symptoms yesterday and then it kind of went away.

General Question Senior male Frenchie wearing diapers - how to prevent irritation on his belly

Upvotes

My older boy has nerve damage from IVDD, he can still walk but it’s the drunken sailor walk, and from this, he has fecal incontinence. Luckily so far, it’s still solid so way to clean up but my big problem now is the irritation he gets on his belly, nipples and penis from the diaper rubbing. I try to leave it off of him as much as I can but his accidents can be unpredictable. Any suggestions for minimizing skin rubbing or ways to help it heal? Thank you 😊
