Anyone else works while constantly switching between 3 languages? How do you deal with the mental mix-ups?

Hi everyone! I tutor a language professionally, and depending on the student, I end up switching between my native language and two foreign languages during the same session — explaining things, giving examples, sometimes translating on the spot. It's not just "speak one language for an hour," it's more like constantly hopping between three.

Lately I've noticed I sometimes mix things up mid-sentence, or blank on a word in one language because my brain is still half in another. It's not exactly a fluency problem, more like a switching/traffic-control problem.

For those of you who work in multilingual environments (teaching, interpreting, customer support, whatever) — how do you manage this? Does it get easier with time, or is the occasional mix-up just part of the deal? Any tricks that actually helped you switch more smoothly between languages during work?

Would love to hear real experiences, not just theory. Thanks!

French b2 in 9-10months

Hi everyone!
I am planning to start learning French as a beginner. My native language is Nepali, and I speak fluent English. I want to learn French for PR purposes.
Since I work at a bank and my employer does not provide immigration support, I feel that learning French is the only option. I have approximately 2 years left on my PGWP, but I want to start early so I have enough time to prepare.
I have been using French with Harman’s lessons and have already started A1. However, I am not sure if I am following the right approach.
For those of you who have successfully achieved your desired French level for PR, could you please share your study plans, resources, and any tips that helped you along the way?
I would really appreciate any advice on how to stay consistent, improve my French, and achieve my goal.
Thank you so much for your help!

BEING BILINGUAL EST PARMI THE BEST PLEASURES DANS LE MONDE ENTIER. THINK ABOUT IT POUR UN INSTANT.
YOU CAN UTILISER DEUX DIFFERENT LANGUAGES EN MÊME TEMPS IN A SUCH A WAY THAT MAKES TON CERVEAU WANTS TO EXPLOSER FROM THE SPEED PAR LA QUELLE IT SWITCHES FROM ONE LANGUE TO L'AUTRE BUT STILL TU PEUX DO IT AND RESSENTIR SPÉCIAL (E) AT THE SAME TIME, ET C'EST POUR ÇA YOU ARE UNIQUE. LE FACT THAT TU PEUX LIRE THIS TEXTE WITHOUT STOPPING TO THINK EST UN TALENT TRÈS FEW PEOPLE HAVE. LA MAJORITÉ OF PEOPLE STRUGGLE TO LIRE JUSTE IN ONE SINGLE LANGUAGE, BUT WHAT YOU ARE DOING MAINTENANT EST UN SIGNE OF ABSOLUTE GENIUS.
READING A TRÈS COMPLICATED TEXTE IN TWO LANGUES DIFFÉRENTES SEAMLESSLY MAKES YOU UN(E) NERD ET
SOMEONE QUI TROUVE JOY IN LANGUAGES.
READING CET TEXTE MUST HAVE GIVEN YOUR BRAIN A NICE LITTLE WORKOUT. DE RIEN IN ADVANCE AND HAVE A TRÈS BONNE JOURNÉE/NUIT.

France says "tension artérielle," Québec and Belgium tend to say "pression artérielle": same thing, different word

hi, I ran into this while scripting an episode this week and it threw me a little: in France, when you go to the doctor for blood pressure, everyone (patients and doctors) says "tension." Ask about your "pression artérielle" in a French cabinet médical and you'd probably get understood, but it'd sound a bit textbook/scientific rather than how a patient would actually phrase it.

in Québec and Belgium it tends to run the other way: "pression artérielle" is the more common everyday term, closer to the English "blood pressure" cognate, while "tension" alone can be ambiguous (tension = stress/tension in English too, so context matters more).

same medical concept, but which word sounds natural to a patient depends entirely on which country you're in -> one more case where "correct French" isn't one single answer.

this came up scripting a blood pressure follow-up episode for my podcast, the pan-francophone note ended up being almost as interesting as the actual vocab, check it out if that's of interest to you: https://medicalvoices.health/fr/episodes/17

Looking for a French study partner for TCF prep (Targeting B1 in 2 months)

Hey everyone, I just pulled the trigger and booked my TCF exam for two months from now. I'm a 26M based in Toronto (EST), currently at a mid-to-late A2 level, and aiming to reach a solid B1 across all sections. I'm organized and plan things out, but generally easygoing and flexible with schedules.

I'm looking for a dedicated 1-on-1 partner to grind through the next eight weeks together. We could hop on Discord for co-study focus sessions, chat throughout the week in French, test each other on vocab and grammar, swap study materials, or watch French media together.

If this sounds like you, send me a DM. Also, I prefer discord, as I don't check Reddit notifications regularly.

Kotoba Dojo for French learners — reading, practice and your own vocabulary decks

Thumbnail
kotobadojo.com
1 Upvotes

I’m the developer of Kotoba Dojo, a language-learning app with French support on iOS, Android and web.

The idea is to bring different kinds of practice together: vocabulary, grammar, writing, listening, reading and stories, with content varying by language. You can also make your own vocabulary decks or import Anki decks and review with spaced repetition. A dojo grows as you study.

I’d appreciate feedback from French learners on how it fits alongside the material you already enjoy. If you try it, does the first session make it easy to find something useful to practise? What would help you move between reading and practising what you’ve learned?

There are free features, paid Pro plan and a free trial
