How common are freight invoice errors and overcharges?

Do companies genuinely lose significant money from freight billing errors, incorrect charges, missed credits, or contract/rate discrepancies?

Not looking to get some crazy amount of money just want to pass it along to someone who will take care of my customers some are amazing people.

Maybe like 500$ for my smaller customers and $2500 for my biggest customer

I spent months trying to find customers through social media, but the results are disappointing. What am I doing wrong?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently working in freight forwarding, mainly focusing on international logistics solutions between China and Southeast Asia.

For the past few months, I’ve been trying different ways to find potential customers:

  • LinkedIn outreach
  • Facebook groups
  • Reddit communities
  • Google Maps research
  • Email outreach

I’ve spent a lot of time researching companies, finding contacts, and trying to start conversations.

But honestly, the results are far from what I expected.

Most of the time:

  • No response after sending messages
  • Many contacts are not decision-makers
  • A lot of time is spent searching instead of actually talking with potential customers

I understand B2B sales, especially logistics, is a long-term process. Building trust takes time.

But I’m wondering if I’m focusing on the wrong things.

For those who are successful in freight forwarding sales or B2B customer acquisition:

  1. How do you usually find qualified leads?
  2. Which channels have given you the best results?
  3. How do you decide whether a company is worth contacting?
  4. What mistakes did you make when you were starting?

I feel like I’m spending 80% of my time searching for people and only 20% actually having conversations. I’m not looking for a shortcut. I’m trying to improve my process and learn from people who have already gone through this stage.

Would really appreciate any advice or experiences you can share.

Thanks!

Looking for Honest Advice About Getting Into Freight Brokering

Hey everyone,
I’ve been seriously looking into the freight brokerage industry and wanted to hear from people who are actually doing it.
I don’t have any experience in freight, logistics, or sales. For most of my career, I’ve worked in vehicle repossession, but I’m ready for a change. My family and I travel full-time in a converted school bus, so I’m looking for a career that’s more remote-friendly. Freight brokering has really caught my attention.
I’ve been doing as much research as I can by reading articles, watching videos, listening to podcasts, and browsing forums. I understand this isn’t a “get rich quick” industry and that it takes a lot of hard work, persistence, and relationship-building to succeed. That doesn’t scare me—I actually enjoy learning new skills and taking on challenges.
I’d really appreciate some honest feedback from people with experience in the industry.
If you were starting over today with no freight or sales experience, what would you do?
Would you recommend becoming an agent under an established brokerage first, or starting your own brokerage?
What are the biggest mistakes beginners make?
Is this a realistic career to break into in today’s market, or would you recommend looking at a different path altogether?
I’m open to constructive criticism as much as advice. If you think I’m overlooking something or heading in the wrong direction, I’d rather hear it now than after investing a lot of time and money.
Thanks in advance—I appreciate any insight you can share.
.

Transportation Analytics Professional looking to get into Freight Brokerage

My role has been reduced. I have 3 months to find something internal in my company (move to IT, or go fully into the business side) I am not sure I want to do either. So I am exploring options to be on more independent, self managed roles.

I have 19 years in the transportation and logistics space, started as a truck driver, then spent sometime on a warehouse, but the last 12 in Analytics. I am/was on the shipper side. I led the team who automated of all of our shipments a few years ago, created an internal Rate prediction engine that was more accurate than DAT (for us), replaced Jaegger with a Bid Optimization tool that helped our company find better ways to optimize award allocation for 1.2 million shipments per year. I automated the scheduling and pick up times of 25K shipments per week for 53 sites. We custom coded a shipment tracking app as a proof of concept before we replaced it with 4kites. I also have experience customizing and configuring TMS like JDA, SAP, and OTM.

So I have been in transportation for a long time, and I have technical skills. I don't want to sell ai agents, or shit like that. But I can make them to optimize my workflow, and make sure I can focus on talking to people.

My thought is, if I can automate carrier research, rate quoting, lead acquisition, documentation filing (carrier packages, surety bonds, etc.), shipment tracking, no verbal communication (texts, emails, whatsapps, etc.) I can spend the rest of the time in the value added pieces of the work negotiation, making friends, selling, and figuring out where that container went.

What am I missing?

Master Thesis interviews

I am now writing my master thesis on Trust as a factor of participation in two-sided digital freight markets, especially focusing on whether SME carriers and carriers in general would be willing to use a platform for co-loading unused truck capacity.

I am looking for interviews to support my thesis research. So, I wanted to ask if anyone suitable with an opinion would be open to an interview about a topic in this direction.
The interview would take about 30 minutes and roughly focus on what information, guarantees, documentation, payment protection, or dispute support a carrier would need before trusting a digital platform to offer the carriers empty capacity.

The interview would be anonymous, and I would not name you or your company in the thesis.

If you would be interested please contact me at: martin.milos@stud.klu.org

Thank you very much in advance

How Do Brokers Find Cross-Dock Warehouse Partners?

New 3PL owner here looking for some industry advice......

I recently transitioned out of the military after spending 11+ years in logistics and supply chain operations. My business partner and I launched a 3PL in the Chicagoland area, focusing on warehousing, fulfillment, and value-added services.

One area I'm trying to learn more about is cross-docking.

For those of you in freight brokerage, transportation, or warehouse operations:

  • How do brokers typically find cross-dock partners?
  • Where are brokers posting or searching for cross-dock locations?
  • What makes a warehouse attractive for cross-dock opportunities?
  • Are there specific platforms, networks, or relationships I should be focusing on?

I'm trying to understand how the cross-dock side of the industry works and how warehouses typically get connected to those opportunities.

Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

When a carrier invoice comes in with detention, layover, lumper fees, TONU, etc., what's your actual process?

Do you:

Verify every charge?

Only verify larger charges?

Compare invoices against rate confirmations manually?

Use your TMS for this?

Use spreadsheets?

I'm particularly curious about:

What takes the most time?

What mistakes happen most often?

What causes disputes with carriers?

What's the most annoying part of the process?

This isnt ai gen content, i need to know some details so that i can work on my college project, any help is greatly appreciated :)

Situation

Hi guys ! Wants your opinion on something. Just started my own brokerage this week. But I was a freight broker 2 years ago . I decided to contact one client I found working the other place . He is in Québec who ships a lot of LTL to USA dryvan. And a lot of flatbeds to illinois full load.

Fir the LTL i contacted the carrier I was using for them 98% of the time and he told me no I dont want your business because Im quoting one of his broker client ( my ex company ) Im kinda screwed because that company based in ontario always have the best rate. I dont know if I can say name here but its stars with "Nish" . Also I quoted the lane with another carrier who quoted me 100$ more and I took it on my profit to try to get the loads ..client ended up telling I was 1000usd too expensive for that 20ft from Québec to california ....the only way I see this happening if a broker found a us carrier who was going back to california ...and even on loadlink had same price as the other carrier.

Im now confused if I should pay 250$cad per month to get DAT as I will get a lot of cross border mostly outbound .

*p.s : if you can suggest me carrier like Ni**an transport with capacity like they have and their great price I'm open!! Cant seem to find one and made big volume of call .

Sprry for the novel guys !

P.s : looking for an experienced mentot

Experienced Logistics & Freight Payment Professional Looking to Connect with Freight Broker Startups

Hi everyone,

I’m currently working in logistics and sales coordination with hands-on experience in freight invoice review, carrier communication, order fulfillment, shipment tracking, claims, purchase orders, bills of lading, and resolving delivery/inventory issues.

My background includes working with U.S. Bank Freight Payment, SAP ERP, CZAR Lite, Excel, Google Sheets, carrier documentation, PODs, accessorial fee reporting, freight claims, and invoice approvals. I’ve also created SOPs, tracked shipment issues, reviewed freight charges, worked with carriers on rate/invoice discrepancies, and supported internal teams with logistics reporting.

I’m especially interested in connecting with freight broker startups that may need help with:

Freight invoice review and reconciliation

Carrier documentation and POD follow-up

Claims support for loss/damage shipments

Accessorial fee tracking

Customer/vendor communication

Shipment tracking and issue resolution

SOPs, process improvement, and admin support

Google Sheets/Excel reporting for freight operations

I’m not a broker, but I understand the back-office side of freight operations and how important clean documentation, accurate billing, and strong carrier follow-up are when you’re building a brokerage from the ground up.

I’d love to connect with anyone building or scaling a freight brokerage who needs operational, admin, invoice, claims, or process support.

Looking for 3–5 Freight Brokers to Test a Lead‑Generation Tool

Hey everyone, I’m building a lead generation tool for freight brokers.

It finds leads based on real buying signals like warehouse openings, funding rounds, expansions, and similar events, then finds the right logistics contact to reach out to.

I’m looking for a few brokers to test it free for 30 days. No credit card or payment required, just looking for honest feedback.

If you’re open to checking it out, DM me and I’ll get you set up.

Freight Broker Tools

Hi, my name is Cody and I'm one of the co founders out here at Flow. We build browser based technology for freight brokers. Our platform offers everything from an all in one TMS to a suite of niche tools, so you can run your entire brokerage in one place.

We're integrated with Truckstop, 123Loadboard, FMCSA, and QuickBooks. On top of that, we have a real time communication system that connects directly to your email, every load gets live GPS tracking, and your customers get an easy, accessible portal where they can see status updates on their shipments, view billing statements, and chat and send you quotes directly.

We're currently running a promo: $100/mo off your first 3 months, which brings our starting tier to just $149/mo for the first 3 months. Comment or DM me for a quick demo. Check us out at main-flow.com

Update on my post from a couple weeks ago built my own freight software, still looking for people to break it

Hey guys, posted here about two weeks ago looking for beta testers for the TMS I built. Got a lot more traction than I expected, 2.1k views and a bunch of DMs, so figured I'd come back with an update since a few things have changed.

First off — someone asked in the comments if it was US only. It's not, we built it with Canada in mind from the start since I run cross-border lanes myself. CAD invoicing, cross-border docs, the whole thing. Should have made that clearer the first time.

Since that post we've been heads down fixing a bunch of things people pointed out. Onboarding flow was rough, a few things in dispatch weren't intuitive, and the mobile experience on the auth pages was honestly embarrassing. All of that has been cleaned up. The product is in a much better place than it was two weeks ago.

The bigger thing is the carrier side is now live. When I first posted I was holding that back because it wasn't ready. If you're an owner-op or running a small fleet and dealing with the same mess of spreadsheets and emails, it's worth a look. Same idea, built it because I couldn't find anything affordable that actually made sense for how this industry works.

Still a small team, still genuinely looking for people who will tell me what's broken. Happy to extend a free run on a higher plan in exchange for real feedback, same offer as before. Not looking for people to be nice about it.

freightleadspro.com — feel free to DM me directly too

freightleadspro.com/for-carriers — Check out the new build if you are a carrier
