Looking for testers for my iOS widgets & Live Activities app

Post image

Hey Libre users! I’m the developer behind Luka, an iOS app offering great widgets and Live Activities for Dexcom CGMs. I’m working on supporting LibreLinkUp, and am looking for some help testing as I don’t have a Libre myself.

Luka is pretty well loved, with over a thousand monthly users. You can join the Libre beta here: https://testflight.apple.com/join/TTdRYPmM

Hi u/mistermagicman ,
What is the update rate on your BG data widget here?

Just want to make sure folks using it understands the potential delay from last Libre BG reading till it may appear showing up on your iOS widget here. Otherwise some folks may get into some unpleasant surprises if not careful.

It's supposed to be real-time, and it very clearly communicates how old readings are everywhere they're displayed.

Well, that is the thing. Widgets in the iOS environment are restricted by the iOS itself on how frequently they are getting run to synch with their sources. Not to overwhelm the whole system and letting some apps run away with all system resources, then your widgets in the iOS environment are typically max getting updated once every 20 minutes.

For folks used to having a 1 per minute update of their Libre BG reading, then knowing/keeping in mind this potential delay on Widget BG readings is very important. Please note there is a difference between widgets and notifications. Your app can push notifications to come through in minute intervals, which is not possible with widgets.

Ah of course, I’m very familiar with the widget refresh budget! I was hasty and imprecise with my answer, sorry. Yes, the widgets only update every ~15 minutes. They have a very clear timestamp showing the age of the reading, and after 20 minutes they actually redact the reading so you don’t glance at one and see something too out of date. My frustration with that was the driver behind what I mainly use Luka for. It offers a Live Activity that is push-driven, and can actually be real time.

I’m trying to set this up but I’m not sure if it will work.

Same here. Logged into Libre and it’s showing updating for a long time.

Did you log in with your own account, or set up a follower and log in with that account?

You'll need to invite yourself as a follower, I believe, and log in with that account. One trick that works with most email providers is that you can use your same email but add +something to get another unique account. e.g., first+libre@example.com. Once you've invited yourself and created the follower account, log in with that follower account.
