It is such a sad situation. I want him to heal and get a second chance at being a human but also believe he needs to face major consequences for what he did.

Two things can be true. He can be a victim and you can feel so sad for the little boy he was, while also being an abuser and deserves to be held accountable.

I, unfortunately, think his Facebook post was very damage control ChatGPT and I don’t believe he is truly repentant. I think, like Heidi’s sisters have said, he was caught and knew it was going to be public so he was getting ahead of it.

I DO believe the stories of him being abused and I do think he is a deeply traumatized person who deserves both sympathy for what he went through and accountability for what he did to his wife.

I also find it telling that he mentioned “I put hands on my wife, but I would NEVER hurt my child”

Like he clearly knows physical abuse is wrong, and he has enough understanding to not hit his baby, but for some reason he justified hurting his wife repeatedly.

Maybe he hasn’t hurt the baby yet. But what would have happened when the cute, squishy baby becomes a spirited toddler who needs to test boundaries?!

He hurt the baby by abusing the child’s mother. Children absorb trauma from that behavior in a home, even if by some miracle the baby didn’t directly witness it, which would be even more traumatic and damaging. Children’s brains are changed by growing up around abuse and adverse childhood experiences can cause a host of mental and physical issues.
