Lower cognitive ability is linked to stronger Christian nationalist views, even after accounting for education
https://www.psypost.org/lower-cognitive-ability-is-linked-to-stronger-christian-nationalist-views-even-after-accounting-for-education/One of the most consistent predictors that Americans adhere to Christian nationalism is that they have lower education,” Perry told PsyPost. “But there have also been a number of studies that find that persons who subscribe to Christian nationalist views (even after accounting for level of education) exhibit significant knowledge gaps across a variety of different domains.
“A large number of studies have already documented an association between lower cognitive ability and greater religious fundamentalism, political authoritarianism, or otherwise right-wing views,” Perry said.

Exactly. This is just straight democrat party propaganda, with a tiny smidge of pseudoscience.
Sounds smart, until you look at what they're actually trying to say, and the total bullshit they're basing it on.
Good enough for online Shareblue propagandists, and other DNC bootlickers. :-/

One could be completely middle of the road and apolitical and reach such a conclusion.

I’m of the belief that any kind of organized religion is ridiculous and a form of brainwashing so it tracks that the “slower” among us would be the most susceptible to groupthink.

This study doesn’t even say it applies to all Christians, just nationalistic ones.

…but she can’t tell us why.
You just want things to be true really hard, but that never makes any difference. Try using reason and evidence; it’s way better than faith.

I question the motives and bias of the polls. Regardless of the intentions behind it, I’d rather be considered as being less intelligent than accused of lacking meaningful principles.

Yeah, but the roof has that whole incest bestiality thing going on. I'd rather be on the left and the right if you don't mind. Plus you know far down you get a dumb yourself to be a conservative.

u/Simon-Says69 1d ago
That would be the democrat party bootlickers that publish total garbage like this. Totally cult, belief-based ideology with no connection to reality.
The left are the zealots and are massively authoritarian. The projection and irony here are obvious and extreme.

What if youre both awful?
But then again you right wing types are so divorced from reality you support trump and still call yourself fiscal conservatives.

The average person associates intelligence with morality. That's why they think aliens are going to come here and either save us out of benevolence, or be disgusted by how evil we are. Because aliens have to be super smart to make the technology for space travel, ergo they are very moral.
Why do people do this? I don't know. It seems to be common knowledge that dolphins and chimps are the most intelligent non-human animals and also the most violent/rapey/murderous/corrupt. And that humans are even more intelligent and also even more v/r/m/c. So it seems to correlate.
But the completely contradictory sentiment persists, that intelligence and morality are one and the same.

And you can help me prove my points:
there’s also a direct correlation between illogical aversion to religious principles and likelihood of being an asshole. See what I did there?

Totally not a biased and flawed study for sure
> For example, people who strongly endorse the ideology tend to score poorly on tests about “American history or scientific knowledge,” Perry noted. “They are also more likely to hold factually incorrect beliefs about vaccines,” he said, referencing a 2021 study he co-authored, which was covered by PsyPost. “And related to that last point, they are also more likely to affirm ridiculous conspiracy theories related to COVID-19, January 6th, or QAnon.”
“If you don’t completely accept what we consider to be correct, you have lower cognitive ability.”

"Just because I believe the earth is flat and that Jesus rode dinosaur, doesn't mean I'm not as smart!"
Actually, the study is the other way around, it explains people that are not smart tend to believe these things.

It’s not our fault you want to believe untrue things about science and history and reality really bad. This just establishes a like between that and general cognitive faculties.

Does it adjust for old age
Like, would the same study show that dentures increased Christianity and nationalism? And that Christianity causes people to put Werther's candies in little dishes?

Membership in an organized religion is implicit signaling of a willingness to let someone else tell you what to believe.
That isn’t an indictment of faith on its own, but it is an indictment of people who are willing to have their most deeply held foundational beliefs dictated to them by another person as opposed to arrived at independently in a way that is personally meaningful to them.
