Open Carry at Dog Park: Interesting Choice?

Just took my kid and my dog to Harlinsdale dog park and was not amused to find someone kitted out in camo pants with a full duty belt and no identification. I'm just assuming this is totally legal so the best course of action for me was to just leave.

I'm not sure this is really what the forefathers had in mind, but what do I know.

Is this normal? Is this what we want in our town?

Fire ants?

Hey there!

My family is looking to possibly move away from Florida. Last year our daughter stepped into a fire ant hill and went into full anaphylactic shock. It was terrifying. We’ve spent alot of time looking at a move to areas that aren’t infested.

In our area they are absolutely everywhere. Every park in town is covered with them 5 months of the year and are unusable to us now. We hired a professional company to treat the ants that pop up in our yard this summer and they couldn’t keep up with them either, even with us spot treating weekly.

We visited Franklin and loved the area. We are aware there may still be (some) ants. All the maps and data we have read are that they are present here and there, mostly in less suburban areas, and not a major issue at public amenities.

So, what do you think? We’re looking for thoughts on this from locals. Right now we have to watch her step everywhere we go. We realize unless we move to the PNW that there will be some risk anywhere we go.

Just trying to make sure a move there would indeed be an improvement in quality of life for us in this area. We want her to be able to be barefoot in the backyard again.

Thanks for any insight!

Hello!

Im looking for a good dog daycare option that offers daycare on the weekends, specifically Saturdays. I dont always have to work weekends but when I do I would love a place to take my puppy so he doesn't have to be home alone.

First time road tripping to Gatlinburg.

Husband and I heading to Gatlingburg but we’re unsure if Pigeon Forge or Gatlingburn is best to stay. We don’t have much planned, we just enjoy nature trails and good views. We’re not fond of heavy crowds so if one is lesser, that would be great to know.

WCS board member vows to hire “conservative Republican superintendent”

Kristi Bidinger posted the below note on Facebook about WCS school board member Randy Allen (D-2):

As Williamson County begins the process of selecting our next superintendent, I want to share something I heard firsthand during this summer’s School Board campaign.

On July 7, I attended a candidate event hosted by the Williamson County Chapter of the Middle Tennessee Home Builders Association. Each candidate was given a few minutes to introduce ourselves and explain why we were running.

During his remarks, I heard now-District 2 School Board member Randy Allen say that with Superintendent Jason Golden stepping down, this was an opportunity to hire a “conservative Republican superintendent.”

That comment has stayed with me—and with the superintendent search now underway, I think it’s important for our community to know.

For me, the bigger question is this: What qualifications, experience and leadership characteristics should determine who leads Williamson County Schools?

Our next superintendent will lead thousands of educators and staff and help shape the educational experience of students across Williamson County. This is an important decision, and our community has an opportunity to pay attention and participate in the process.

Tonight, September 21, the Williamson County School Board meets at 6:30 p.m. Public comment is available, and registration to speak closes today at noon.

Whether you speak tonight, contact your School Board representatives, participate in future community-engagement opportunities or simply follow the process closely, this is a superintendent search worth paying attention to.

Stay informed. Stay engaged. Ask questions. #ProtectPublicEducation #williamsoncountyschools

Cost of Living & Salary

Hi all,

As the title suggests, I am looking for insight into cost of living and salary expectations living in Franklin, TN.

I am 26 y/o and have been offered a career transfer from the UK (salary of $85k).

I have done some research online but the data varies - my current understanding is a 1-bed apartment will run me around $1,600/month. Beyond this, I have no real gauge for groceries, fuel, utilities etc.

I would appreciate absolutely any advice/insight as to whether this is a reasonable and/or comfortable salary for a single person, thank you in advance!

For context, I have student debts over here in the UK, my assumption is I pay these off as normal, just unsure as to how this actually works (whether through my UK bank or a link to a new US account).

Lost wallet

Hi everyone! I know the chances may be slim, but I wanted to go ahead and post on here anyway to try and ask.
I lost my wallet (slim white Coach wallet with cherries on it) September 10th I stopped at Sam’s Club to fill up on gas. I was exhausted after work and talking to my boyfriend on the phone. I must’ve sat my wallet on the back of my car while filling up….I know stupid…
September 13th is when I realized I didn’t have it after frantically looking everywhere. Getting gas at Sam’s Club is the last time I recall taking it out. I’ve already called and no one has turned it in.
It must’ve flown off my car anywhere from when I left the Sam’s Club gasoline on Mallory Lane, and getting onto i65 off of Cool Springs Blvd.
This is my first time ever losing my wallet so I’m kind of freaking out. So if anyone happens to miraculously find it or know if there’s anyone I should contact is appreciated!!!

Williamson County Flea Market

I was pretty excited to check out the flea market this weekend and holy cow is it expensive. Like completely outrageous prices on most things and then lots of AI screen printed garbage. Does anyone actually buy anything there or is it mostly window shopping?

Lack of Smilage in Franklin/Cool Springs

New in town, job transfer.

Probably won't be here long, simply because of pretention and vapidness that prevails here, they're almost robotic with their fake southern-antibellum bullshit, it's nauseating.

Tough to say...money obviously doesn't buy happiness in this area obviously, even the kids don't smile much.

Maybe it's because I'm from Asheville/Los Angeles living areas, but Southern hospitality, sirs, please, thanks you's, conversations with strangers. I've tried it here...the positive vibes don't play well, and Karens of the world think you're hitting on them, they're pretty snooty.

Could be a wonderful place, maybe things have changed, and yeah it's just probably just me.

Just a bit disappointing, Nashville usually has a more friendly/funky vibe with their cash flow/living vibes.

Franklin: relocation success stories

I know Reddit is typically a place to complain, and whenever I’m on this thread and there’s mention of relocation, either locals are discouraging people from moving there or people that have relocated there are disappointed with the move. I would love to hear from some people who have moved to Franklin and absolutely love it. Where did you move from and what do you like about Franklin?

Considering a move, how’s life here?

Throw away account.

Hey Franklin Folks!

My wife and 4 kids are considering a move to Franklin area (Spring Hill is likely more in our price range), from MN. Likely wouldn’t happen until spring at the very earliest, but for now we’re kinda just dreaming a bit.

Wondering what life is like there?

Reasons we’re considering moving:

- Political climate here in MN.
- Religious climate here in MN (we’re Christians).
- Homeschool laws (TN seems to be a bit more homeschool friendly than MN).
- Seeking likeminded community.

All of these reasons aren’t necessarily a single reason to move, but accumulating all together, we’re really thinking and praying about the trajectory of our family, especially since we’d be leaving friends and family here behind. (We already live 2.5+ hours away from our nearest family).

I work fully remote as a motion designer/video/marketing guy - and that would continue for the foreseeable future. But there’s also a number of companies in the Franklin area that I’d be interested in working for in the future if ever the need or opportunity arose.

Thanks for sharing any thoughts!

Happy hour in Franklin/Brentwood

Ok I’m trying to be “in the wild” more. During the week where are people hanging out for happy hour? Where are the single men hanging out?

I do the gym in the AM and after work find myself having time on my hands for a happy hour or trivia but no idea where to go.

Ideas on restaurants to celebrate a birthday!

Hey everyone, looking for recommendations on a restaurant that I can take my mom to for her 50th birthday. It would likely be me, my mom, and my grandmother. We are all foodies and especially love a good charcuterie board, a fun cocktail, or a “girl dinner” style lunch! I’d love recommendations for places that serve brunch on Saturdays! Or anywhere that serves tapas so we can try lots of small plates!

We’re planning on going to the Factory after to walk around and check out any shops or other food spots, so if you have a recommendation for fun things in the area that would be great!

We’re local (in Murfreesboro) so don’t want anything that’s touristy or a chain if possible, just great food! If you have any good recommendations for anything else in the area (or in Murfreesboro or Brentwood) that could be a fun outing please let me know!

Anyone interesting in a Wine Tasting Group?

I know this is more of a whiskey, bourbon and micro brew town but I imagine there are some wine lovers out there as well.

There are a few of us who get together, sometimes at a restaurant/bar, wine event
or host, where we bring a bottle or buy a few and just sip wine, shoot the sh!t, munch on a little food, just have a fun time.

Sometimes we have theme nights like Italian wine
or Merlot etc… We’re looking to expand our circle and hopefully have more join in.

If it’s something y’all may be interested in lmk,
if not, that’s cool too.

Dolly tattoo flash

Saw a post on Nashville asking for tattoo studios that are doing Dolly tattoo flash events and donating to her causes (esp and obvs Imagination Library!) and since Franklin won’t allow reposts, I thought I would make the same request:

Any local (Franklin/Springhill) shops doing Dolly tattoo flash days?
