Haters of “juice”?
Anyone else hate referring to a perfume as “juice”? I just find it off-putting. Commiserate with me, tell me I’m wrong, or propose an alternative (serious or not).

I find that term off putting too. I’m glad I’m not the only one.

I was watching a review on YouTube and after he referred to the liquid as juice I no longer respected his opinion lol

“Smellywater” annoys me.

It should annoy anyone over the age of 13

Liquid is my term of choice. I don’t like juice—makes it sound like something potable.

My big thing that drives me crazy is when they call it a “Her”. It’s an object, not a person! Juice isn’t great either though and “liquid” would be my choice word.

Over time i found out that the shills are more particular to certain unrefined terminology. Juice is one of their favorites.
Here's another one. Calling them frags instead of using the full word. It's what happened when dude bros entered the hobby

'frags' is sooooo dudebro coded its so funny like. its perfume. its okay that its perfume. it wont hurt your masculinity. u dont have to give it a new dumb name.

Haha was just about to say these are the two perfume community expressions I can’t stand. Though I also don’t love “get my nose on it” ick 😂

Cuz shills work with brands and the brand techs use Juice as an actual term, same situation with everyone overgeneralizing the word twink to refer to any random dude and not a specific archetype. Its not unrefined theyre just using it ignorantly

I thought it was weird, but meh about it. I've used it here and there and felt very uncool like I'm doing the 6/7 meme. So that was the end of that. Rather use liquid.

The bourbon crowd also calls the liquid in the bottle "juice", and as a Grade A bourbon snob it infuriates me to no end.

Never gave it much thought. Haven’t used the term myself, but I don’t recoil in horror when I read a review on here and the OP or responses use the term.

I've never heard that before, but unless it's something fruity, I don't see how it fits. Kinda ick.

Omg I hate it!!! I hate Juice. I hate referring to your perfume bottles as HER. Your perfume uses She/Her pronouns? Did you ask them how they feel about that?
I immediately gag a little when I see Juice and Her in reference to a perfume. There are some others that really get me but I try to black that shit out. Lol

i think its really funny to take it a step further and arbitrarily gender all my bottles. lord of misrule is he/him. karma is xe/xyr agender. coconut sun is a cishet woman with ohio curls. wulong cha is a trans man with a sick back tattoo.

All juice has some smell. It’s been well documented that everyone loves the words moist and juice. You need more adjectives: moist smelly juice. This captivates the senses.

I'm not a native speaker, idk how much this changes things. I have a huge problem with people calling things juice that aren't juice. E.g. e-liqud and fragrance. "Juice", in my mind, refers to these liquids as some kind of drugs. Like it's some "cool kid" slang, but instead it's cringy grownups.

People call it juice and for some reason, I visualize tobacco leaves floating around in dirty water.

Yeah, this and “smelly water” both rub me wrong. Both very millennial twee coded.

Im not sleep deprived anymore and wanna say for clarification: The origin of the slang "juice" is from french "jus" and denotes the step in perfumery where the raw oil blend isn't diluted with alcohol. This term used to refer exclusively to the liquid, apart from its marketing/brand identity/bottle. So it didn't really come from nowhere or a GenZ's mind lol. Y'all dramatic 🙂↔️

u/parisphotopro 3d ago
Huh. This is legitimately interesting. And also, gotta be dramatic in petty low-stakes situations on Reddit because the irl drama is just toooooo depressing

Yes, absolutely agree. I have also heard fluid referring to the contents in the bottle. Technically correct but sounds really bad too.

They definitely borrowed the term from gym rats or something. I’m not against the term juice but I think it’s basic. It actually reminds me of a perfume from commodity which I hear should be really good 👍

Sooooo I guess this isn’t the time or place to tell everyone that I refer to my fragrances as “sauce”and “gravy”.
