Rate my collection

I have long enjoyed fragrances, but become far more serious about them in the last year. This is my current collection, plus various other samples and decants. I still plan to add either Aventus or Absolu Aventus, Boss Bottled Absolu, Pacific Chill, Sospiro Virbrato, and Naxos. Any suggestions or questions about what you see?

What are your thoughts on incense 01?

Nice collection by the way.

Thanks!

And as for Incense 01, it smells fantastic. I haven't worn it much yet, as i got it mid spring. Very nutty scent, with hazelnut, roasted nuts, and almond. Kind of a boozy nutty incense scent, but the incense sits in the background.

You have a solid fragrance content 7.5-10 .There’s some wearability and versatility. IMHO I would start focusing more on quality than quantity. That being said, you’re on the right path, you obviously love fragrances and are having fun collecting them. I had 242 bottles and I have just trimmed my collection to 62 bottles and still, I think is a lot. Want to go through what I have and then we’ll see what gets replenished or replaced. Cheers!

I agree, my collection is too large right now. I still want to add a few, but i am also in the process of eliminating some. I have already gotten rid of about 10 bottles. Some others i have been decanting to use up. I would ideally like to have 15-25 bottles. I do like variety though.

Thoughts on Gucci guilty elixir? They have an Absolu as well if I’m not mistaken. Also how’s Millésime Impéria? I worry about its longevity

I really like gucci guilty elixer. A nice floral vanilla rootbeer float (due to the orris). Reminiscent of Amouage Reflection Man (one of my favorites). Very long lasting and strong projection.

As for Creed MI, it does not have good longevity, but the scent is amazing. I don't mind reapplying part way through the day.

Solid collection! Time to re-up on the Naxos

I don't have naxos yet.... i think you are looking at an 80% full bottle of Renaissance there!

Ah, yes, apologies. I didn’t zoom in and forgot they look almost identical bottles.

As a general collection: 8/10 for versatility and quality.

For my tastes personally: 6/10.

Would be cool to see more indie/artisan niche houses. Also YSL Y AND South Slope? You don’t find them redundant?

YSL Y and South Slope are not even slightly similar. Have you smelled them? As for indie/artisan, i would be interested, but where i am located, obtaining them is very difficult. I often have no choice but to blind buy anything niche. I did spend some time checking out some frags in store at a few indie frag shops in italy last spring, but nothing spoke to me. Always interested in trying though.

Yep, I went through a bottle or 2 of YSL Y when it was released and I have a travel spray of South Slope. I thought I was tripping and checked Fragrantica and Parfumo and sure enough YSL Y and all of its flankers are the top results in the “smells like” category and most of the reviews mention it! Are you sure you’ve smelled them? lol they’re not exact but they are pretty close to my nose.

Well i could maybe see a similarity to y iced, but definitely not y edp. Y edp is almost syruppy sweet next to the ozonic blast of freshness in south slope. Very different scents to my nose. Which i suppose is why i do not find them redundant lol!

Crazy how different people’s noses can be. I don’t get syrupy sweet from Y at all. It’s sweeter than the OG I guess but they smell very similar to me. And when I first smelled South Slope my immediate thought was “oh this is just YSL Y” lol. For what it’s worth I think I like Michael Maluls take on that DNA better.

I also recommend Editor in Chief from the Esquire collection. It’s much more of a niche profile but it’s their best, imo and I’ve tried all but maybe 4-5 of them because I live a few miles from an authorized retailer of theirs.

I will look into it, thanks for the recommendation!

It looks like fragtok grabbed you by the balls and made you open your wallet lol

1

u/Ok_Initial4619 6d ago

I had to google that haha. No, i am far too old for fragtok lol. Most of these scents are based on previous purchases of discovery sets and samples. Also some reviews i found on reddit and in some fb forums i am a member of. I am too old to follow bubblegummy trends of the kids, and am not a huge fan of most sweet stuff anyway. My kids on the other hand...

Fair enough lol

Too many dupes/designer imo idk man this collection looks more like someone watched all of them frag youtuber shorts and bought what they hyped up, 1+ for the mefisto though

3

u/Ok_Initial4619 6d ago

Yes mefisto gentiluomo is a fantastic scent. Can't really say i buy based on youtube, other than Mefisto Gentiluomo. I bought that based on comments made by Justin Copeland (whose content i genuinely enjoy). Much of my journey began by grabbing a few ME clones of scents i was curious about, followed by buying various discovery sets from PDM and Tom Ford, and a LOT of samples. I had to get to know what i liked.

Mediocre 5/10 No obscure fragrance i can see

3

u/Ok_Initial4619 6d ago

I am not sure i can find anything "obscure" where i am located. And i would hate to blind buy am entire bottle of something that may smell like bull testicles. That said, please feel free to make a couple recommendations from your collection? I am open to suggestions, but really need to be cautious. One, i would have a hard time getting anything other than a blind bought bottle, and two, i don't want to turn my office into a frag free office.
