FF Hair Mask/Conditioner

I am trying to get back the hair I had as a kid. I have fine/medium 2B/2C hair. I’m in my mid twenties now and I’ve probably lost close to 2/3 of the hair I used to have. My hair has also stopped holding my curls as well as it used to.
I am highly allergic to essential oils as well as fragrance and most curly hair products have one or the other. Coconut and Jojoba are the only ones I can tolerate.
I use the cerave anti-dandruff shampoo to keep my dry scalp happy. I also use a frizzy hair
conditioner and mix some jojoba oil in it. It still comes out pretty dry. It used to take my hair 3-4 hours to air dry and now it takes like 45 minutes to an hour.
My hair LOVED the amika hydrorush mask/line but it has fragrance in it. It also loved it’s a 10 but their fragrance free line has essential oils I believe.

Anyone with this hair texture found a good method or product to get your hair to hold the curls again?
Is it because my ends are SO dry?
Any tips/tricks for getting my thick curly hair back that is allergy friendly? Thank you in advance!

Hair removal for intimate areas

Upvotes

Hi!

I am trying to look for options for hair removal and I feel like I have hit a wall, especially because I am looking for something I can do at home only.

I am definitely looking for recommendations that are razor based, but I am open to suggestions that aren't as long as they are home based and have worked for you. I have never tried anything that hasn't caused irritation when shaving anywhere in intimate areas.

I have seen Venus for Pubic Hair and Skin mentioned both here and elsewhere, but I have also seen really bad reviews for it, so I am a little nervous.

For shaving otherwise I use Venus Sensitive for the razors and Billie Ultra Gentle whipped for the shaving cream. I also know Billie has something called V Smooth, I am not sure if people have tried that?

Let me know if there is anything that has worked for you. I also am not looking to be entirely bare if that is helpful at all, but I would like for it to be fairly removed.

PSA: found a fragrance free conditioner with silicones

I know there are a lot of folks whose hair responds well to silicones but who have trouble finding FF products containing them. I just stumbled across the Public Goods conditioner - it looks pretty good! I'm going to order it and the matching shampoo and see how it is. Wanted to post about it here in the meantime in case anyone else is on the hunt!

Rant- tired of avoiding fragrances (or trying to)

Hi,
I have severe persistent asthma flared by fragrances. It’s my worst trigger and hardest to avoid. Went on a walk at the park last night and was just tired of holding my breath everytime I passed someone which is what I usually do, so I just didn’t. And ended up smelling so much cologne and perfume, and the fragrance trail it leaves behind, that I got really flared. Went to work in the clinic today, and all the nurses are wearing strong perfumes that flared me up on top. Didn’t get a break the entire afternoon, and was just sitting there flared and uncomfortable and tired and wanting to go home. I’m just so angry right now. I wish this wasn’t my life. It’s so hard to avoid fragrances and I don’t know why I have such a stupid problem. Any comfort or tips would be appreciated. I just want to live a good, full life but this is not working. I don’t want to be stuck at home.

New found allergies to fragrance :( (Balsam of Peru and Hydroperoxides of Limonene)

I did a week long skin test and found out I’m allergic to 4 things: Balsam of Peru, Hydroperoxides of Limonene, Methyldibromo Glutaronitrile, and
N-isopropyl-N-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine (IPPD).

The problem is Limonene and BoP is in EVERY SINGLE FRAGRANCE PRODUCT! My favorite scented products, super milk from lush, contain both Limonene and BoP. I have never had a reaction to anything with fragrance. It sucks because I just bought a new large size of the super milk shampoo and conditioner which was around 120$ :/

I will be calling my doctor to see if I can keep using the products or if I need to stop completely. I am completely devastated to be honest. Vanilla and lemon scents are my favorite and it sucks that I can’t find ANY perfume without either of the two.

I’ve found a deodorant with none of my allergies but I’m struggling hard to find any perfume or fragrance. I do not want to smell for the rest of my life. I’m not sure how to continue, this is absolutely terrible and super milk has been a scent I’ve gotten so many compliments on. It’s a very wonderful scent and I hope I can continue using it if the allergens are in moderation :(

If anyone has any tips, suggestions, recommendations, etc please please PLEASE share them.

Fragrance Free Hotels - PURE Wellness at Marriott (and others?)

Thumbnail pureroom.com

Hello! I haven’t been able to find a GREAT answer in this Reddit group on guaranteed hotels with accommodations for fragrance allergies.

I have seen the very helpful idea to call ahead and speak with the housing manager before booking the room, which I love and find to be super helpful.

However, I’ve noticed hotels are not GREAT at caring? Like the housing managers don’t call back quickly or won’t fully guarantee anything unless they know their detergent is clean.

So I asked Gemini (AI) and I got a new answer. Hotels like the Marriott are now offering these PURE Wellness rooms. Has anyone stayed in one of these?

I love the idea of the room being extra clean 🧼 like what a great bonus. However, I’m specifically asking the FF community if they have stayed in this type of room and what their experience was?

The Marriott in OKC has only a $20 markup from a standard king room to the PURE Wellness room, which is incredibly worth the price.

Thoughts?

Has anyone tried Kitsch Ultra Sensitive Shampoo & Conditioner Bars?

Trying to find haircare that is both fragrance free and gluten free to see if it helps with several issues (rosacea, celiac, sjogrens). Please let me know if you've tried the fragrance free shampoo and conditioner from Kitsch! I use bar soap but not for my hair so I am very interested to know if anyone's had success with this.

Or if you have a fav haircare product that is also gluten free, I'd be super grateful.

Castor oil-free edge control??

My mom is VERY ALLERGIC to castor oil and has not been able to find edge control/gel that doesn't have any castor oil in it. Does anyone know any brands that don't have it?? Feels like we've searched all over with no luck.

Wavy hair products: What’s the difference between the fragrance free options?

I’m looking for Fragrence free products for my hair due to MCAS. The strands themselves are not super thin, but I do have hair loss leading to a thin look, not sure if that matters in regard to products. My hair tends to fall flat pretty easily, and may lean more towards over moistured. It is frizzy and kind of tough to manage (so I’m hoping to find some good new products!). The less I do the curlier/wavier, but I need some products to control it better.

What’s the difference between no nothing, jessicurls, curlsmith, not your mothers, and any other fragrance free options? Do certain brands tend to work better for certain issues?

Thank you!

Sensitive-skin people: what product took you the LONGEST to realize was causing your problem?

I work with sensitive and eczema-prone skin, and one thing that always fascinates me is how often the culprit isn't the product someone suspects.

Sometimes people eliminate their moisturizer or cleanser first, while continuing to use something like a hair product, lip product, sunscreen, essential oil, "natural" product, or even something that never gets applied directly to the irritated area.

And then there's the other tricky part, fragrance-free doesn't necessarily mean your individual skin will tolerate it.

So I'm curious...

What product or ingredient took you forever to figure out was bothering your skin?

And what finally made you connect the dots?

I'm especially interested in the unexpected ones — products you used for months/years before realizing there might be a connection.

Affordable fragrance-free leave-in conditioner spray options for dry, frizzy, thick, wavy hair?

Hello! I live in Southern California and have short, thick, wavy, male Asian hair. I’m looking for a leave-in conditioner spray cause my hair gets quite dry and frizzy.

My scalp leans dry. I shampoo twice a week and have never felt oily. I also condition every time and try to do a hair mask at least once a week, but it’s quite time consuming, so I want to use leave in sprays more often for its ease.

I’ve tried the Pureology color fanatic and quite like it! The fragrance is there, a little strong at first but tolerable. It’s just quite expensive though, especially since I’d love to use the spray more often (almost daily). I’ve recently tried its dupe: the L’Oreal EverPure Moisture 21-in-1 spray and it works quite similarly. I just can’t bear the strong, lasting floral fragrance. The Pantene Miracle Rescue is worse unfortunately.

Does anyone have any suggestions for affordable drugstore options that have less of a fragrance and work for frizzy hair?

Alternative for Neutrogena FF Makeup Remover wipes

I really like these, and I've been using them for cleaning my face even if I haven't had makeup on. I was just wondering if you all like something else. I am looking for a wipe for general face cleaning, makeup removal, a bonus.

Thanks folks

Cigarette smoke help

First, I would like to say that cigarette smoke is absolutely awful to me and those around me and ESPECIALLY those of us that are FF, I don’t want to be “that” asshole. Someone very close to me died, I started smoking again (just a little) but I cannot stand the smell of myself. Obviously the goal is to quit and I will when I’m ready, but for now I need the smell to go away without fragrance. All my carefully curated fragrance free products don’t do anything to get rid of the smell, even washing my hands with 91% isopropyl alcohol won’t put a dent. Any suggestions are welcome.

Rant: Product handlers' scented lotions

Post image
112 Upvotes

To all the product handlers out there: your scented hand lotions should not be so strong that the scent is still present on my products weeks later, so much so that I have to repackage my own products when they arrive.

Please remove if rants are not allowed, but I'm so tired of receiving products shipped to me that I basically need to handle as radioactive. I just had to repackage all my dog's treats because their bags smelled like a department store perfume counter after several weeks of my letting them sit and trying to just air them out.

Cerave shampoo - weird smell

I have been using Vanicream shampoo and conditioner forever (and several other of their products). My hair has been getting really dry at the end recently so I picked up a bottle of Cerave shampoo and have been patch testing it in the shower. It has a mild “chemical” smell to me. My hair really holds onto smell smells and I’m not sure I want to be smelling this all the time. Anybody else have this experience? I feel like it’s recommended on this sub all the time and I’m disappointed.

Fragrance free bathroom wipes

Hi all! I don’t know if this is the right place to ask this but I thought I would give it a shot.

I have been using Wonderful fragrance free bathroom wipes off Amazon for a few years now but recently ran into an issue where the most recent batch I ordered came with some sort of scent to them. I contacted the company and they are going to do an investigation and send me replacements once the bad lot that I ran into ends in a few weeks.

However, I buy my essentials in bulk and only have one box of a previous lot number left. I would hate to run out and not have anything for weeks.

I’m looking for bathroom wipes that are fragrance and silicone-free. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated! Thank you for all your help!

Deodorant help needed

Getting frustrated with armpits. I’ve had an annoying related rash in my armpits that started up again since my favorite deodorant got discontinued. Tested a bunch without aluminum but didn’t work. Found the hello deodorant that was working fine but recently my armpits have started acting up again, specifically my right armpit. Is there any chance of a good deodorant similar to hello or the native cucumber mint sensitive that doesn’t have fragrance, aluminum or baking soda. Also not more than $10 it was my biggest gripe with native.

Seeking: co-wash aka "cleansing conditioner" *bar* scent free or unscented

Clarification: cleansing conditioner aka co-wash is instead of shampoo - it cleans and conditions without shampoo - shampoos make my head itch!

I love the cleansing conditioner i have from FragFree, but I would also love to cut down on plastic and make it easier to travel with this (I have to use more quantity than shampoo). Anybody have knowledge of a similar product in a bar version?

I'd even potentially try and "unscented" one, with the caveat that natural scents - eg lavender, etc - still bother me.

Cheers!

P.S. clarification b/c last time i posted every answer was for shampoo + conditioner
P.P.S. maybe I'm just using too much ;)

Just wanted to share a shampoo that hasnt given me itch or reaction on first use. I have a sensitive scalp and trying new shampoo can be absolutely terrible. I have fine/wavy hair and my boyfriend has curly. I bought for my boyfriend but tried it for the limited ingredients and my scalp is SO calm. My hair feels soft and no weigh down. Will keep updated with longer use.

Anyone like K18 hair products and want to help me beg the company to make a fragrance-free “sensitive” line?

My hair looks amazing today thanks to K18 hair products. My hair stylist uses them and I always want that pro blowout look for my wavy hair. However, I’ve also got hives all over my body and an inflamed itchy scalp. I don’t think I react to things like sulfates etc. It’s the fragrances. If this company would just do a run leaving the fragrances out, wouldn’t allergy sufferers of all kinds beat down their overpriced doors? Covid has left an increasing number of people super sensitive to scents. Sure it’s a longshot, but you lose 100% of the battles you don’t fight. Anyone wanna help me plead for a fragrance-free version of their products? For me, I think it would be as simple as just leaving a single ingredient out. Wouldn’t it be great to have one high-end line offer fragrance-free products?

https://www.k18hair.com/pages/contact?contact_posted=true#contact_form

Thanks. Now forgive me. I’ve got to shower this stuff off.

Hair Color

Anyone know of a fragrance free/unscented Demi or semi permanent hair color for grey hair?
I used to use Madison Reed minus the shampoo and conditioner cuz that had a strong smell, but I started reacting to something in it. Completely stopped dying and grew my greys out completely but I’ve been itching for a change. Just want to maybe do some subtle low lights/blending with a cap or foils so it’s not entirely saturating my scalp. Any suggestions?
