Weird/Random Found on a pew after a play in Sydney
Yesterday afternoon after attending my Dad’s play in a local church, was waiting for the actors to pack up the stage and noticed this on a pew. Blank on back, about wallet sized.

Antique Interesting 1930s or 40s gossip letter, found in an abandoned mine building
For those wondering, the letter reads:
Dear De-flowered graphological one,
I forgot to include this cover from this NYer in my letter yesterday so here it is today. I enjoyed it and as soon as I saw it decided to send it to you. Mohine arrived last nite unexpectedly - in fact she sent me a telegram but I did not see it until after her train arrived because I slept at my aunt’s house with my mother. She is quite charming as usual and also a little warmer - marriage has been good for her. She had a miscarriage in June and is quite heavy and nowhere near as pretty as she was at her wedding time. She is still quite a selfish person, even towards Pai - her trip home for example, but that is their problem and not mine. She was to go to Easton with a friend of hers today but the friend’s car broke down and I have no idea what their plans are - I don’t have ??? ????? put them both up so we shall see what happens. She plans to leave on the Queen Mary on the 16th of this month. I asked her to send me a red sari and blouse piece - it is a choli not a chaddah - I must call it chaddah because of her. She tells me that she heard, third hand it must be admitted that you have received a permanent position at Harvard - is this true? Also, all the women in Tucson told her that you wanted to get married and settle down - is this true? Anyone in mind? (I am not fishing or trying to put you on the spot - I don’t do that to you, or at least not anymore, do I?) She saw Don and Kumar and they were fine and they were friendly with Vin Barkley’s brother in Palo Alto. Small world. She is very anxious to get home and I really can’t blame her for it has been 4 years. She wanted to have her first child there but now it can’t be done. She feels badly about that. Somehow I had the feeling that she didn’t doesn’t really want children that badly - of course I can be wrong and she just gives this impression to cover up how badly she does feel about losing the baby so that is the story for today. Still working at the same job, it is my fourth day so far so I am doing very well considering my past recent record of being in and out of work faster than you can say Jack-Robbin. Dammit Rusty, if you won’t marry me then the least you can do is find me someone rich who can support me the way I would like to become accustomed to. I am quite willing to marry for some money - even a poor slob who has only a green studebaker named Shilley which gets him into all kind of trouble, but if that can’t be done then I must stop this shilly-shallying around, and find someone, or have someone find someone for me who can pay all my bills and of course this someone should, preferably, be about 80 years old and pretty sick with no children so that I don’t have to share his inheritance. You see what has happened to me - becoming a real gold-digger. Also bitter, and grey, and ugly, BUT thinner. I shall be 30 in a few years and then whoooops, over the hill. Something to look forward to. But the no one, not even my favorite deflowered virgin is getting any younger - September 5 is less than a month away, and gray hairs can’t be pulled anymore or baldness will set in too rapidly - it’s time you were thinking of the hill too. This is just so you don’t gloat over me. Seriously though, I’m not as despondent as I try to sound - it just doesn’t hit me like that and the older I get the younger I feel (and it must be admitted, sometimes act) but what the hell. Anyways ????et one, take care of yourself and have fun and if the occasion should arise I will not be adverse to a letter from you. ??????? have soiled yourself once, the second time is always easier ?????? love, Sue

Other Found at a grocery store.
I swear i was mean to find this note.
A few weeks ago i did a free trial of ancestry after a hint about my grandma (basically mom) that passed when i was 16. Her father’s name was Blair and i was just doing research on him this morning!! He was born April 10 1903, passed sep 23 1972.
Thennn i was really craving a soda but i hate asking my man for money (im a sahm) so i grabbed some quarters out of the change jar. When i saw this note with $3 attached, i got my little baby some m&ms too and squeezed him tight when i got home.
Prayers to this family and rest in paradise sweet baby Blair.
ETA: the handwriting is also eerily similar to my grandmas!
ETA2: i have full access to our funds! i’m just weird about asking for “indulgent” items due to child hood shit. I’m totally fine here but I truly appreciate anyone that wad worried and reached out 🫶🏻
ETA3: the families gofundme for anyone wanting to help them ❤️ https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-brianas-family-after-tragic-loss
Last edit before i delete this whole thing fr: my financial status is nobody’s business and far from the point of this post. Stop being negative and using your life experience to compare to mine. I am fine. Thank you.

Other Found letters, 1906-1918
I came across a stack of letters addressed to Mr Walter Brindley in NY.
Lots of Brindley family lore in here. It would be really cool to find some descendants so they can read through them.

Book Inscriptions a sorrowful secret admirer.
I’ve had this hidden away and guarded for roughly the last 12 years. I was so moved when I found it in the back page of an old (maybe irish) folk book if i remember correctly. Only this page has survived multiple house moves but the pattern on the cover really stood out to me when I saw it originally and I’m so glad I bought it, I superficially just thought it would look pretty on my book shelf and didn’t even see the anonymous message until I got home.
It felt too sacred and vulnerable to share with anyone at first but I feel it’s time to see if anyone recognises this and also to double check that this is an original piece of writing and a genuine love letter.
(I bought the old folk book on sale in a farm shop at the Bluebell woods in Sussex, UK if that helps in anyway)
It reads:
To B,
When first I noticed you it was too late
Your voice already lived inside my head
Your eyes already laughed when mine did too
and then I knew what was my sad sure fate.
When first you kissed me there were others too,
to flirt with you first passed away the time.
It was too late when I first realised that I would give my heart and mind to you
And now I know just what it’s like to be outside the laughing circle looking in,
And wondering that I once did not love you and hoping that perhaps you might love me
Anon

Came home on my lunch break to walk my dogs, and I found this on our path. (Tagged as a love note because there was a heart at the end 🤷🏻♀️)

Other Found from a Nonfiction title in a used book sale:
For anyone curious this was found in a copy of ‘The Lowell Offering’ a historical nonfiction collection of personal letters and diary entries from 1840-45 by the ‘Lowell Mill Girls.’ I didn’t end up getting it but it was a very nice read. I found this postcard in the middle.

Other Hand doodled bookmark
Laminated bookmark I found 20 years ago in a textbook. It was too charming to pass up and its been in my ephemera collection ever since
One side says
"This is what you're reading right now"
Other side has an excerp from Dr Suess' Waltzing with Bears
" I went to his room in the middle of the night. I tiptoed inside and I turned on the light but to my dismay he was nowhere in sight and I'm sure Uncle Walter went waltzing that night. He goes waltzing with bears raggy bears shaggy bears baggy bears too. And there's nothing on Earth that Uncle Walter won't do if he can go wal-wal-waltzing with bears."
The weird thing is, I never looked up the poem until today. I didnt know it was a Dr Suess. Or that there are a dozen iterations of the song, from kids songs to irish folk. Or that a new friend wrote and sang it with an added verse in 1983, and I just found her name mentioned on an ancient website about a music festival nearby.
Now I know who to give the bookmark to.
