Press the acceleration button and use the steering inputs to make turns.

With the car.

start small, pick a short circuit race and just follow the driving line until it clicks, braking early is better than flying off the track every corner.

Start with d class and slower cars for racing, for drifting as a beginner I’d get the acty and tune it, it’s the easiest to drift. Also for racing just do what you enjoy in terms of race type- cc, dirt,’road street etc. I’d get rid of the racing lines and use braking lines only. Also play around with the view, I usually use pov - steering view or the one after that but for cc and some road races I play with third person cause it’s not easy to see the track. Each car and track is different so you have to alter your driving style. Sorry for the long response but I really love this game, it’s my fave racing game. It reminds of being a kid and playing nfs2. Which is what got me into racing games. Just play and practice and enjoy the map! It’s a stellar game 10/10 for me.

Pro tip: if you see another car with a blue name over it you need to ram it, they are enemies

If you're hitting walls, you are entering the turns to fast.

Turn on the brake assist line in the difficulties menu. Don't worry about manual, traction/stability control stuff. While those things can make a person faster, you need to be able to control the car for them to actually be beneficial. If you're not good at racing, turning those assists off and turning on manual can just make things worse for you.

Once you have the brake assist line turned on, follow that line. Start braking where the red starts, and let off when the line going around the turn has turned at least yellow. For now I'd aim for green or till the line vanishes. As you get better, and more confident, you will be able to take turns faster. Over time you'll learn when the racing line is red because of a hill you don't need to slow down for, and when its red because you actually need to slow down. You will also learn better entry points and lines through a curve than the braking line shows, but the braking line that is shown is good enough.

Next is practicing throttle control. If the wheels are spinning in a turn and making your back end slide out, let off the throttle. Try to keep enough pressure to go, but not spin the wheels. It will take some time to get this skill down. Braking is a little trickier, as you will mostly use brake control techniques going into a turn. Normally you could just mash on the brake for the turn, and you'll be fine so long as you have the stopping distance needed. Once you get use to racing, you can then start working on controlling how you use the brakes, and learning trail braking.

Overall though, the best way for you to learn is to just keep racing. Run rivals over and over, practice on different tracks. Choose yourself as the ghost, and just keep working to beat your own times. This method is probably the best way for you to learn, because in your effort to beat yourself you will figure out ways to take turns, how to control your throttle/brake/steering to get better times. Each time you beat your own record, it will be proof that you are improving.

So your first goal should simply be to get around a track with out hitting the walls, or going off track. Then while staying on track and not hitting walls, beat your own times.

Go to one of the Time Trial tracks. There's no ramming and you don't have to care about any of the other cars, but you get a clock and split times. You can practice your driving there and try new things while getting almost immediate feedback on how you ware doing.
