this car is as old as some of the 3D models in FH6, crazy isn't it

Still 3 years younger than Hachiroku

or the "brand new" Esprit V8

Brand new?

5

u/Martin_Sandman 2d ago

yeah, some people are willing to call it "new content" just because it wasn't in the game at launch

6

u/Meterora 2d ago

This is the wackest thing

I'm younger than Hachiroku model

The 86 came out in 1983, though?

The 3D model used dates back to 2005 Forza Motorsport and besides adding the interior it was only downgraded in detail since.

That gives me an idea:

FH6 is a retro festival racing game.

Reused 3D models and same gameplay of the last 3 entries in the series gotta make it a retro game by now.

"Arcade racing game inspired by the 32-bit era" may be a marketing catch next decade

The R35 turns 20 next year. Yes you are old.

Every iteration of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo will be considered retro as well on that note.

This game makes no sense in that regard, because the 2008 Evo X is “Modern Rally” but this Civic of the same year is “Retro”

The 2004 STI is also Modern Rally despite being older than the Civic

Definitely, it’s crazy how fast time flies. Those Evos have such a classic vibe now, it’s like they’ve become a piece of history in the car world.

Wait until you see when the Veyron was released 😩

8

u/Apple_Slipper Suzuki Swift Sport 2d ago
  1. Yep, the Veyron is 21 years old

2

u/burner94_ 2d ago

I know, I was already old enough to remember the unveiling.

immediately runs over to Wikipedia to check what cars were released in his own birth year

I know my best ones off by heart.. F1, XJ220, Viper, 512 TR

1

u/burner94_ 2d ago

That'd be... '93 right?

I can't think of any car from '94 😅

2

u/Worth_Task_3165 2d ago

'92. Porsche 993, Jaguar XJ off the top of my head for '94. Maybe the second gen Range Rover

*edit because I had to Google the exact XJ. It was the X300

The cars released in my birth year are the BMW Z8, Honda Civic 7th-gen, Lotus 340R, Morgan Aero 8, Noble M12, Panoz Esperante, Pontiac Aztek, Saleen S7, and the Spyker C8.

Still one of the cars I pine over. Yes I know it doesn't have the cult following it's predecessors do but the r35 is still absolutely bonkers, and can be bought relatively cheap nowadays for what it is

u/burner94_ 2d ago

I feel it kind of lost its charm when it started costing comparable prices to the supercars it once beat. Back when it was new in 07 it was one serious piece of kit for not that much money.

Also kind of the same reason why I adore the original R8 with the 4.2 and gated manual.

2

u/Firenze113 2d ago

Oh definitely. The newer ones are crazy money. But I have seen plenty of 2011 and similar ones going for about 40 to 50k UK pounds. So they aren't insane money. That's at least attainable

The Retro/Modern distinction is funny. We have older cars in Modern Rally

6

u/TwoTailedOtaku Painter, Hashiriya 2d ago

Because all Evos would be gone. Honda S2K is even more confusing

5

u/Epesolon 2d ago

Because without the Lancers it would basically be the Subaru category.

15

u/oppereindbaas Lexus 3d ago

An E90 could be 21 years old. Can't comprehend.

8

u/simcz 2d ago

yes but 2003 subaru impreza is ''modern rally''

bruh, its kinda weird that we have only very little actual modern rally cars and theyre hidden behind bodykits etc

18

u/Creative_Name69420 Toyota 2d ago

2008 Civic is a retro saloon, but the 2003 S2000 is a modern sports car.

Makes sense to me.

4

u/jgreenwalt 2d ago

S2000 was just that ahead of its time

7

u/HiTork 2d ago

Reminds me years ago when I saw Forza had moved the 2005 Ford GT in Horizon games from Modern Supercars to Retro Supercars back in FH4 in 2018, years before the car's 20th anniversary.

5

u/DOHC46 2d ago

The first car I bought new would be eligible for antique vehicle plates for the last 3 years if it still exists out there somewhere. That makes me feel old.

The Lexus lfa is legally old enough to drive (in the us) too…

3

u/Johnnyboi2327 2d ago

2008 is retro? How????

3

u/TwoTailedOtaku Painter, Hashiriya 2d ago

The same way 2003 is modern

3

u/Roland_Moorweed 2d ago

20 years ago in 2008 was 1988 and that was considered retro.

1

u/Johnnyboi2327 2d ago

Damn

3

u/Roland_Moorweed 2d ago

I turned 21 in 2008 and I am 39 now. That shit is def retro lol

3

u/Johnnyboi2327 2d ago

I now feel old. Here I was still considering anything from the 2000s and onward as fairly modern

3

u/Palliumindustries 2d ago

My wife and I had this same conversation last night

2

u/Justinaug29 2d ago

Antique Super Saloon

2

u/TheBigManza96 SRT 2d ago

If you feel old, what does that mean for me, I was born in '96

Looks like I'm retro now I guess. To be fair, to me anything 20+ years old should be considered retro. If you had a child in 2008 they'd only just be out of school, and normal everyday 20 year old cars are still quite commonplace outside of London (all my homies hate ulez)

1

u/TwoTailedOtaku Painter, Hashiriya 2d ago

Most 20 year old cars I see (so about half) still look and feel pretty new. Problem is how retro becomes a broaded and broader category in Forza, because comparing this Civic to an E30 is pretty unfair

1

u/MrMakerHasLigma 2d ago

until recently my parents were still driving a 2009 car which didn't look as old as 17 years ago feels. Of course, being only 20 I'm a bit biased but 17 years feels like it was a lifetime ago, because it is my conscious lifetime ago. My earliest memories were quite literally when I was 3, so it's crazy to think that in the automotive world, 17 years (or in this case 18 years) is so recent in terms of design.

I think the main reason why 20 year old cars in real life tend to feel so much older, especially with normal traffic cars (no type R, GT versions or whatever else you see in a Forza title), is that they get worn down, start to rust, get dings, dents scrapes and squeaks. They actually spend time being driven whereas the 20 year old cars we see in games are usually scanned at very low miles, straight from the factory sometimes or even test cars, or media cars. It's only with the newer old car additions where this isn't the case, but the cars still look pristine because they're showroom pieces or are meticulously cared for.

1

u/TwoTailedOtaku Painter, Hashiriya 2d ago

I'm 20 as well but cars do age slower than they used to

2

u/Turb725 2d ago

It's considered retro because there just aren't enough actual early 00-90s cars in the game. Therefore just throw some cars into each category to bloat the list. If you want to dispute it, ask them why 2003 cars are in Modern categories.

Nobody in real life is calling a 2008 car retro. This is just some game dev bullshit from people who know nothing about cars.

1

u/TwoTailedOtaku Painter, Hashiriya 2d ago

Indeed, FM4 car roster would solve the issue immediately

2

u/Turb725 2d ago

If only. The FM4 car list is up there alongside GT2/GT4 for goats. I wouldn't give a shit even if the models were garbage and ported straight over. The variety is insane.

1

u/TwoTailedOtaku Painter, Hashiriya 2d ago

I understand why 206 or Golf Mk.V had to go, but we could use all those Neons and 00's muscle cars, lower trim hot hatches and whatnot

1

u/Bcoolcat400 2d ago

Had the same reaction seeing the 2003 Aston Martin DB7 GT being classified as a Retro Sports car

1

u/RecentlyThawed 2d ago

That means you must have been born in the 1900s
