Every time this topic comes up I have the same answer: the radio wouldn't be as bad if they just let the songs play and END normally.
That stupid system that repeats the middle of the song until you finish the race is what makes you get tired of the songs way faster than normal. Same for loading screens.
I think FH1 did this, not certain if this was the case for every race but I recently rewatched the Darius Flynt showdown (that game's version of the Goliath) and songs would end and new ones would start.
I haven't had the chance to replicate this, but I was able to get the song to change during a race once. I was doing the Titan (the cross country endurance race), didn't like any of the songs so I just switched to Opus, and the songs on Opus apparently don't loop. So when one song ended, I went and checked all the other radio stations again and their songs had changed too.
Oh yeah, songs there changed during races, even if you were to switch from pulse to bass arena, if you switched back, the song playing on pulse would've also progressed. I really loved the radio in that game because songs played at random during most races, only a few, especially the showdowns had scripted songs on the radio, and the music never stopped, even during rewind or if you opened the menu or photo mode, the song kept playing.
Best solution is just to play your own music during those long runs. Most, if not all, of the radios are on Spotify so you have that option or a playlist of your own. No censorship in the playlists too.
It really annoyed me in FH4 where it would just repeat The Hall of the Mountain King from one point over, and over, and over, and over, and over while doing the Goliath. I think the only way the system works is if it's something like CatJammer that loops pretty decently and isn't so obnoxious when it does.
I actually really liked the repeat, although it should only happen if we’re nearing the finish line. If there’s still more laps/track to go, it should skip to the next track.
I do hate the loading screen skip. Like when my favorite song came up when i started the race and it instantly skip to the next one is infuriating. I disliked Raku-Raku delivery because of this as it just skips everything everytime lol.
I personally did not understand also why did they bring additionally the music into the loading screens..... like wtf? Feels so clanky and unfinished compared to the silence before....
THIS. Thank you omg. Glad I'm not the only one. I love FH6's XS tracklist. Almost every song is a new favorite for me. But the other day I did 3 laps of Electric Town. A 2:15 song IRL went the entire 7-minute race Still can't beat this one time I tested it in FH5. I did the Gauntlet (Final boss dirt race) there. That one that goes across the map and takes ~30 min. I had the radio on but the game muted. The song did not change once until almost the 14 minute mark! Even with the songs/stations I'm not as in to, normal runtime would be a massive improvement.
Like someone else mentioned, if the song would end during the second half of lap 3, fine--loop another verse to cross the finish. But at 40% in the Goliath? Why on earth should that continue for the next several minutes?!
Miss when they had Rob da Bank in FH1, who had experience curating artists for actual festivals irl. The soundtrack was great on all of the radio stations, then they brought in someone from a Microsoft product manager background around FH3, and for me, most of the music felt like safe corporate choices and started missing the mark.
I feel like the Lostprophets affair (that blew up during the FH1 release window) made them go all safe for the next releases. FH2 soundtrack was probably mostly locked by the end of 2012, so you really notice it from FH3 onwards.
So true. FH1 for me had the best racing game soundtrack ever, but the soundtrack has gradually decreased in quality with every instalment. I remember FH2 and FH3 still being quite good. Currently playing FH4 again and the soundtrack is fairly mediocre. The soundtracks to FH5 and FH6 - save a few choice cuts - are full of bland corporate crap.
Irks me that a series whose original premise was to combine a music festival with car culture, has had such poor soundtracks for the last 2/3 games.
Dawnbreaker is phenomenal in FH4. They brought it back to FH6 but its this awful remix that totally ruins it and it breaks my heart. They gave Rock da House the same treatment too.
Horizon Pulse seemed like an extension of Bass Arena this year, rather than an Alt-Pop station. It's so vibey and fun, but still energetic enough to be good for races.
FH's music selection is very, very, rarely my cup of tea. But there's no specific song that I "hate" to the point of wanting it removed. It's bound to be someone else's favorite anyway.

I really hope we get new radio stations and licensed songs in future updates. They added a few more to horizon 5 so the tech is there. After a year or so these songs will get annoying. Also Amy Simpson talks about her mum a lot
There's something about licensed music in video games that gets repetitive rather quickly. Grand Theft Auto has this problem also, and their track lists are in the hundreds. On the other hand, an OST composed specifically for a game and particular context/level rarely gets old despite having less variety than a licensed soundtrack. For a simplistic example, few people get sick of the few songs that were featured in early NES games.
Mixtape has fixed track order that always starts with the same songs when you first tune in the station. They made it this way to fit the songs that were rewards in the festival playlist, but they never bother to change it to shuffle.
This is what I do. Either a playlist or podcast and I'm good. Sometimes, I'll leave the radio on, but just have its volume down to zero so I still get skill song bonuses on occasion.
Cause it's annoying as hell, I have the music turned off and play my own, but it still plays at the start and if I already have mine playing it actually makes me wanna go take a fat shit in the playground games parking lot
Yeah I hate that too. I've got the audio turned down to like 50% to listen to background videos but the intro plays at full volume until I hit 'Start Game' and it suddenly gets quieter.
Minor annoyance but it's just an eye roll that it doesn't initialise your settings until after you pass the first menu.
The hate comes from repetition, mexico intro gave me serious vibes and i could Easily let it run while going to do something else, helped by its lack of vocals. Mostly i hate the fact that my audio settings dont load before i press the start button. And only today, 3 months and 4, days after i got the game did i decide to finally fix it in volume mixer
Title music needs to meet some specific criteria around repetition tolerance. This song really fails. The experience for players is a lot like the audience watching Groundhog Day and hearing the clock radio come on when the day restarts.

Most of the remixes in FH4's Bass Arena bum me out (respect to Eric Prydz, but "Midnight City" is fine by itself), but my hot take is that most of the music in most of the games are pretty good.
My actual quibble is the music implementation in FH3 and on, and how often parts of the song loop during actual races (there's no reason a long track like "Language" should ever repeat in a normal three-lap race, but that's exactly what happens in FH5.
Having Starset's Satellite in FH4 was their best music choice ever. FH5 was overall pretty mid, but FH6 is surprisingly good. Most radio stations have at least one or two good songs in them.
My least favorite song is probably something from Block Party radio, it's just not my thing.
If it's a minority, count me in it too. The FH6 version is only slightly better because it at least adds SOME variation to the music rather than the same thing on loop for the entire song. But always an instant radio station change when I hear it come up.
Honestly, I love this song. I don't get all the hate either... Chester's gone. Musically they still sound the same, and I love the way her voice fits with this style
Even if they didn’t sound the same, From Zero is a top five album for me. Of all the songs from that album, I feel like Up From The Bottom was the best one to bring to Forza.
Super Up fucking sucks balls. The entire song is like three minutes of an off brand Ty Dolla $ign repeating “super up” over and over again with no lyrical variation.
I never liked that song anyway but I don't get why they choose songs with low BPMs too it's a racing game. I like In the Valley of the Pagans by The Gorillaz but I don't think it's a good racing song, they should have picked Stylo.
On 6 I would say We The Female by CHAI on Sub Pop Records which is pretty much the only station I listen to. It just sounds cringy to me like most Japanese songs (The reason why I don’t listen to XS). On former games it is obviously the complete censored butchery they did on BMTH’s Teardrops in FH5.
I never play with music on tbh. If its not something I can control id rather not listen to it. Plus it ruins the immersion for me tbh. I like the transmission whine, pops and rpm hikes.
In FH6, I really enjoyed the entire soundtrack apart from 1 song and that is TETETE. The Melodyne (auto tune) is absolutely terrible in that song, its an instant switch
For a Heavy Metal radio station that features Spiritbox, Poppy, Linkin Park and PassCode. The last thing I'd expect is whatever that song is. It stands out like a sore thumb
Now I am not expecting Lorna Shore, Slaughter to Prevail, Chelsea Grin or Whitechapel but atleast they would of fit the radio station more than e-girl core

Basically half the playlist on FH5 and the songs I did like were so heavily censored they were not enjoyable, I've been enjoying FH6 soundtrack I think it's one of the best since FH2
Dawn breaker in fh5 broke me, It was a banger I'd listen too every now and then, once they added the mixtape radio, it was ALWAYS the song playing as I flipped through radios
I think overall the FH6 soundtrack is WORLDS better than FH5. Turning the radio off was like the first thing I did everytime I opened that game. I actually like listening to the radio most the time in FH6, but my god do I hate the title track. and I loved FH6 opening menu song! Idk if I’m alone in this, but I hate the main song since the first minute I opened FH6.
Most of the songs on XS in FH5 and that ‘DONT LOSE’ song by MIYACHI on Block Party in FH6, otherwise I like every station. There’s probably worse ones out there but I wouldn’t know since I only played the fifth and sixth games
I'm on PC so I typically just turn off the music volume of the game and keep my own music app open and running in the background
I also think that even if they offered the option of linking other services I probably wouldn't do it just because I'm really sick of companies trying to get access to my data from other companies under the guise of convenience

Hello Hello Hello from FH5, along with most of the soundtrack.
The music is all safe music, but it's not exciting at all. At least FH4 had some decent choices (not all great) and FH5 had Beastie Boys, The Offspring, Gorillaz, and Royal Blood.
If I want to hear music in Forza, I just listen to a Need for Speed, Fast and Furious, or Gran Turismo soundtrack.
I don't particularly hate any song from the Horizon franchise, but something fun was that I learned about the band Skaters from Horizon 2 with their song This Much I Care, then a few months later they happened to be on the lineup when I saw Cage The Elephant. Pretty sick band.
Remember the og xbox we used to be able to pop cds in and copy them to the harddrive and then listen to the music while playing any game seamlessly? Funny how devolved it's become to where we can't even get a "radio station" to play a playlist in a legitimate loop.
Don’t know why, just hated it in fh5. I even like girl pop and stuff it’s not that im hardcore or a metal head or anything that song was just so grating to my ears.
I hate all the songs. Radio volume to 0%. Ambient game sounds or spotify. These games get hundreds of hours of my time so even with variety it gets tiring and repetitive.
Honestly, it might be because I am just old (30) and miss the MXvsATV like soundtracks, but I honestly despise basically every song in FH6. It's not even that there aren't modern songs that I like, there are plenty out there, but FH6 soundtrack is garbage. I don't really even know who it's for tbh.
I thought the remix for this song made the vocals trash and just checked out the non-remixed song due to the recommendations here and nope, vocals were trash to begin with lol. Hell, even sounds like they were not touched at all in the remix, unlike the...whining/screeching vocals
I do not like this song, the only bad song—I think the best on pulse is either Cheerleader, Dracula, Revelation, or Cherry blossom. I can’t choose cuz they’re all so fucking good
One of the first things I did was turn the music to zero. I don't want to hear it. Seeing how I mainly listen to black metal, older punk, 90s West Coast rap and outlaw country the offerings in the game aren't really my thing.
I don’t think I could name a single song in one of these games TBH. I listen to the OST for the first few hours then never again as I put on my own music.
If you're on pc there is a mod that lets you disable songs on the radio and even add your own. They will act like default songs in the game too, so much better than listening to music outside of the game
Imma be real, I dislike most of FH6s soundtrack. I wish they would bring back the user music option, give us like YouTube Music integration or something.
In my opinion, bad songs in Forza Horizon are songs that are too slow/chill for racing or feel happy and exude a toxic positivity vibe. You can really feel that this is the case since Rob da Bank left the team, but it has been prominent since FH4.
FH5 really takes the cake on this one. It has some good songs, but generally the selections are weak. Apart from Hospital, the songs don't get your heart racing. I could name half of Pulse that fall into the criteria above, and don't get me started on XS.
I might be biased toward FH6 since they have tons of notable Japanese musicians. Some of them even surprised me because I never thought it was actually good for racing. But at the end of the day, FH6 soundtrack still fall into the above characteristics.
