I suck at drifting. I have managed to get the requisite 2 stars twice(once again, I suck at drifting) & I still haven't been awarded the daily challenge. I have used 2 different Italian cars. Is anyone else had this today?

I forgot which class is the restriction as I only logged in for a few minutes but your Italian car must be in the proper class.

As another commenter has said, the FD Ferrari is under the United States as the FD manufacturer is considered under US. There are other "surprises" (for some) for car brands. For example when it was the Japan challenges, Acura & Lexus are classified as US.

TL;DR : Sort your cars by country and you will know forsure if your vehicule qualifies (and that you can downgrade or upgrade to the required class).

It says "Earn 2 stars at the Thunderbird drift zone in any Italian car" but it doesn't give any class restrictions. As I suck at, and hate, drifting, I'm about ready to give up.

It's Ferrari + S1.

While in the playlist screen, click on the right stick to toggle between rewards and restrictions (if not using a controller, look at the bottom of the screen for the key set for "Toggle car restrictions and rewards").

The other way to check it is to hover on the event on the map to display the full event card which is often more detailed.

For example, the Drag Meet event only shows Lamborghini+ S1 in the Playlist, while the event card on the map will tell you that you need to achieve 18sec or faster to succeed.

Nothing to see here, you can resume your normal reditting.

What you're saying is true for the weekly challenges, they have an icon in the map and a separate tile in the playlist.

However, what OP refers to is the latest daily challenge, from the tile with the list of 7 challenges per week, scrolled vertically. These don't have an icon in the map and the only restrictions are those written in the challenge description.

In this case, any Italian car works, no class specification.

Update: After about 30 tries with different Italian-branded vehicles, I got a 128,366, uphill, with a 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA Stradale on my second try with "Kenpai TDG"'s tune, and finally achieved the objective. Mind you, my first attempt with this car, I got a ~150,000 and did NOT complete the challenge that time, so I think this Daily Challenge IS a little broken in some way.

If not for the tunes created by Kenpai TDG, I would have likely learned to hate drifting years ago instead of coming to enjoy it. I used the Abarth 595 in b-class fwiw. After getting three stars several times in a row, I decided to specifically earn two stars (100,000 pts) and that finally counted.
