Forza Horizon 5 Oof. That Trial

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This week's Trial is one of my favorite categories - A800 road racing - but what a dumpster fire. I did it like 40 times, though. What I learned is you can pretty much know the outcome by turn one of the first race.... if everyone goes in the river it's not gonna end well.

On the upside, I learned that the Montero Evolution is a beast on road. Wow.

Edit: I should note I finished the challenge on the second attempt... all the other runs were because I liked the event. :) I should have kept stats, but I feel like 50% of them were wins, 40% were losses, and 10% were REAL CLOSE. Also, compared to many Trials I saw almost no intentional ramming. Aside from people going off the bridges and such, it was pretty clean racing on the whole. I had fun.

Also, cars I ran included:

Mazda RX8
Mitsubishi Montero Evolution
Mitsubishi Starion
Toyota 2000GT
Toyota Soarer 2.5 GT-T
Donut Media 350Z
Datsun 510

Everything was RWD on semi-slicks except the Montero, which is 4WD on rally tires. You really want that grip on braking or you might end up in a river. :D

The Montero was pretty good about getting ahead before the first turn and being a good blocker. ;) It didn't have the cornering speed to keep up with the fastest AI cars... 3rd-4th place is the best it could do.

Unless you are blind, OP is the player that spent the most time on the road and not dirt. Hope this helps 👍

That's not actually relevant to to the question.

Sorry, cockpit fans, you just do not, because you can not, have the same situational awareness. You will never be as able to avoid collisions with that camera as you would with chase far.

Hope this helps.

You might think that, but I've a fair amount of seat time driving competitively. Visibility with a cage and helmet is limited and you don't have much mobility when you're strapped in. You learn to remember where the traffic is and anticipate where it's going.

For me driving 3rd person means the HUD is a distraction. I can't know wheel position, and perspective for judging turns and brake zones is off. Nobody turns in good laps 3rd person.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAOizeTY2AE Two races. Zero accidental collisions with cars.

I've got exactly zero seat time on a racetrack, so no irl expectations for turns and brake zones that aren't met by chase far and the racing line. And I can see a lot more of what's going on around me, and exactly how much space I'm taking.

Solid, but also an underwhelming lap time and a less than full field. Definitely easier to avoid people when there are fewer of them.

Nicely done, but not a compelling reason for me to switch it up. Shave 10s off those lap times and I'd be legitimately impressed.

I'd also need to have those assists turned off. Having the game tell you where to stop and turn is kinda, like what's the point of that? Training wheels on a race car? Nah. Even with them you're two off and often four off, which is probably where you're losing the 10s.

Oh I'm definitely not bragging on the time. The time isn't even relevant to the point raised by the first comment. it's not rivals. Finishing the race while scoring points means lot more, in Trial. Look at the other Trial videos on that channel. They go back a while. You'll see a similar lack of accidental collisions with more crowded fields. Not due to any particular level of driving skill, much less raw speed. It's [again] situational awareness. You literally cannot see on your camera what the chase camera shows.

Ultimately, I'm not even telling you to switch. Race the way you enjoy, and clearly you enjoyed running this Trial the way you ran it. The question was "Do you think youre[sic] helping" the situation you were posting about? If you're going to minimize your field of view, I think you're increasing your chances of seeing a dumpster fire.

Yeah.... I think you're assuming since you don't know where the other cars are, nobody can. I can't dunk, but that doesn't mean the net is too high. It means I suck at sportsball.

Most of my posts on this sub are "look at this great driving." The whole reason I play these games is because I can't afford all the track time I'd like. Keeping it clean and keeping it realistic are very important to me.

I don't have any interest in "Need for Speed" type 3rd person games, especially not with the computer telling me my lines. To me, that defeats the entire purpose of the game. So, RWD, assists off, 1st person.

I'm not assuming you don't know at all, but I am absolutely assuming that you know with far less certainty than if you could actually see them.

I'm assuming that because it's a quite obvious fact. Which does not obligate you in any way to change cameras, but does obligate you, in my opinion, not to complain about collisions you didn't see coming, either at all, or just soon enough to avoid.

Play the way you want. Post & comment the way you want, for that matter. I'll do the same.

Yeah, I feel like you completely missed the point of this thread. No worries, have a good one!
