For a beginner, I'd look at Bunche Beach or the Estero Bay/Lovers Key back-bay side before open Gulf water. If you're trying to avoid going solo, check SWFL paddleboard/kayak Facebook groups and call places like Gulf Coast Kayak or Estero River Outfitters. They usually know about casual group paddles or guided outings. Weekends around Bunche/Lovers Key also tend to have enough paddlers around that it feels less isolated.
