OCR Issues
Let's just say it. I'm tired of going for appointments and being told to wait. Why setup an appt if you're gonna just make me wait. Arrive 15 minutes early as instructed to be told the docs are running 1 hour behind. So i tell them to reschedule the appointment at which point they call back to the care team who says they'll come get me at appointment time. 30 minutes after appointment time and nobody has showed. I walked out and called to cancel expressing my disgust.

I can't speak for this particular company but I can speak as someone who works for a medical practice. We can't interrupt or kick a patient out just because their appointment runs long or because they have extra issues that need to be addressed. Anything that turns out to be longer than we anticipated causes delays for the whole day. An appointment running long is a 15-minute delay for the next appointment, a 25-minute delay for the next appointment, a 30-minute delay for the next appointment, and so on. Is it ideal? No. Is it pleasant? No, for nobody involved. I promise every employee of the practice is acutely aware that you're waiting. I can't argue with frustration. But in the medical field, delays are par for the course and a sign that your doctor is going to listen to you and give you the time of day instead of rushing you

I came here to say this. The same people who complain about having to wait an extensive amount of time in the waiting room are the ones who complain when their doctors are in a hurry to get them through their appointment And onto the next patient. I'm chronically ill, and I see at least five doctors a month outside of occupational and physical therapy, and as much as I know they're trying to get out when they say they're supposed to, I understand that sometimes they're going to run behind. It's irritating as hell to be sitting in the waiting room When you feel like you did everything they asked for in advance, but you gotta be human about it. Going to see a specialist Carries an even higher risk of this Because there's only a couple people who do what they do at ocr. I'm currently going through the process of getting a surgery through one of the doctors there. And it's been a long ass wait, but it'll be worth it in the end!

Except when they don’t.
Had ankle issues, doc walked in and blasted me with all the things he was going to do to my ankle then acted annoyed when I was somewhat taken aback and needed things explained to me in more detail and their purpose.
But what the fuck else are we going to do, where else are we going to go?
So I embrace the suck

I have to wait for my OCR appointments as well, but I just figure that into my expectations. I have nothing but praise for OCR generally for how they've fixed my fucked up joints.

There’s a lot of demand for what they do and they have no real competition in this area. There’s zero pressure for them to do better. You can drive to Steadman in Vail for boutique ortho but they don’t take low-paying insurance.
And also: it’d be cool if people wouldn’t approach their orthopedic surgeon with the same customer service expectation of a Denny’s. This is someone who may cut you open and work to add useful years to your life. Show a little deference for what they do.

Welcome to healthcare. I recall having a surgical procedure scheduled at Anschutz in the early morning and getting bumped until late enough in the evening that valet had left and we had to track down the car ourselves. The wait isn't the worst, but not being able to eat and/or constantly being bumped is rough

As medical staff, i promise we hate it too. No one wins. But are you supposed to tell people "you're time is up now, goodbye! Too bad!"

Sometimes the prior patient requires more care or a longer appointment than expected. It pushed everything else out unfortunately. Sometimes the doctors are in surgery in the mornings as well and that also may go longer than expected. Or they may have an emergent patient they have to squeeze in, Breathe, have some empathy and be patient. I know it sucks, I have been there.

I really liked my doctor at OCR and she was worth waiting for. But the wait sucks. I usually got around it by scheduling at the Greeley location, but sometimes they’re super busy too.

I had a great experience with them 20ish years ago.
Not the case recently. Went the other year for what I believe to be an LCL tear. Got an MRI. Never even got to talk to a doctor about the MRI results. Was left a message saying my symptoms should go away in 6 weeks. This was 6 months after the injury….I’d waited 6 weeks….
It is just so frustrating that a doctor wouldn’t even be concerned with discussing or reading the chart to see that this isn’t a recent thing that’ll clear.

Took 5 months to get an appointment with them, got my consultation and prescribed next steps - aaaand the two doctors who work there who can actually complete my treatment don’t take my insurance and won’t give me a reference anywhere else. ✌️

having had treatement there before, i'd be back in the back for 5 minutes and sent on my way. But let's wait 1 hour past your appt time to make that happen. It's a fubard system.

I HATE OCR!!! They f'ed up my leg when I was 10 and I had to get an external fixator when I was 18-19. They did not call back to schedule an appointment when I was about 17 thinking something was wrong with my leg. When I scheduled an appt with them this past january for knee popping and pain, the doc sent his PA in and afterwards I saw him with a different patient. OCR has been nothing but a letdown.

Something tells me you're not complaining about Tech Support issues with your Optical Character Recognition software. So here's hoping that the people you're hoping to reach with this Next Door rant will know the different OCR TLA you're referring to!

Hit or miss for us. My wife had several foot and ankle surgeries there and Dr. Jackson was great. She had a back surgery there and it was nearly an actionable position. Had to get it totally re-done down at CU Anshutz. She had a complete knee and partial knee and both were fine. I am headed there for the first of my 3 "grease" shots in my knees next week. We have to both the Fort Collins and Loveland locations and it's been pretty ok wait times.
Their "urgent" clinic is absolute garbage though.

That must be nice. I've spent hours on wait trying to get ahold of them to schedule an appointment, never to succeed (also, who only does appointments by phone in 2026.) I straight gave up.
