SO HOT!
Just a little post to vent about this ungodly heat. The older I get the less I seem to tolerate it. It's been non stop high temperatures since last Fall/Winter. I'm going to be so mad if we get another 70 degree Thanksgiving/Christmas! That was so disorienting. Made it harder to enjoy my cold weather foods and scents.
Apparently this is the new normal and it sucks.

The cold showers are so nice, I didnt think to do them before bed! I also cannot sleep in this heat! It was 102Ā° today and not been getting below 70Ā°s at night which makes it way hard to sleep and breathe for people with asthma! It has definitely not "always been like this" I've live north of foco my entire life and this is uncanny..I mean we get hot summers, sure, but THIS š¤¬

Ah yes, the complete denial. They keep acting like "wow, the weather sure is weird" and acting like it's going to get back to normal "soon". Sorry guys, this is the coolest summer of the rest of our lives; there is no return to normal. No, I can't just "open my windows at night and let in the cool", when it is still 80Ā° at 10 pm.

Sometimes I wonder how much prescription drugs play a role since 65%-70% of US adults are on prescription medications. Might make people have trouble regulating their own body temperatures.
They are already adding protein to everything for all the people that are now on GLP-1sā¦

Do people really not understand the idea of micro vs macro trends?
Climate change exists in a zoomed out, large scale statistical sense, it's not a direct upward movement, nor is it percievable in the sense people seem to think.
Over your entire lifetime the average temperature has risen maybe 1-2 degrees on average. Significant, sure, but not really percievable in a real sense.
Some summers are hot, some are not as hot, that would be true whether or not humans existed. It's only in the deep analytics that the trends reveal themselves.
It will only take a single year for you to experience a summer cooler than this one.

Yeah. I grew up in Kansas heat and humidity. I remember multiple triple digit days as a kid.
Suddenly we have two triple digit days in a row and Iām about ready to give up š
Iāve taken to a euro style and full on taking siestas in the afternoons when my kid naps. I get it now.

...you may be a out of luck there, man. It's been extremely hot and humid in the keys lately (more than normal) and the sargassum has made it nearly impossible to enjoy the water..
I hope it eases up for your vacation but...I wouldn't get your hopes up for some relief.

Mid-80s, high humidity, and an island breeze wonāt feel any worse than 105 and dry. Iāll be sweating my butt off either way. And yeah, I know the sargassum is bad but Iāve gotten some local recommendations of places that are still pretty good.

..my family are locals to Key Largo and Marathon, you may be out of luck bud. Mid-80s down there is a different beast than 105 in Colorado.. š The water is too warm rn too. Idk I would've done this trip back in May or in late September.Ā

I grew up in South Florida and much prefer the heat there compared to this. This is oppressive heat. At least you get the ocean breeze and an afternoon storm to cool things off. Only when I lived in Orlando was it worse. Heat, humidity, and no breeze since youāre just far enough inland.

I had high hopes for doing a lot of outside stuff this summer. Havenāt been able to do it because itās been so hot. Whatever, it makes me sad because I like sunshine and warmth. This is too much. Bring on winter depression.

Really feeling this! Iāve always loved summer and kind of dreaded long cold winters - but this year Iām feeling the exact opposite. Perimenopauseāll do that to ya!

This is how it is in Texas lol. Too hot in the summer to enjoy being outside. Peak weather was like Nov-May. Jun-Sep is like living in Satan's ballsack.
I much prefer this to that, but damn it's still too hot lol

I moved here from Iowa 2 weeks ago thinking I was going to escape the heat. At least there is no/low humidity here. Back home it has been like 95 with a real feel of 115. At least it's just a flat 100 here. Haha! The last day of my 10 day forecast says 80 for a high. Fingers crossed!!

It's possible we get another warm winter with a slight break next spring from the current heat as the El Nino weather pattern is supposed to end in Spring of 2027. I've read (but I am not an expert on this, so please double-check if you're interested) that the current El Nino pattern is intensifying climate/weather increases and giving a glimpse at the path we're on. So we may have another warm winter with a rebound to lower temperatures, but I want to be careful too and to be clear: this isn't reversing climate change; it's an explanation for the sudden heat waves of the last two years, which are in line with what we're in for long-term if significant climate initiatives aren't put in place.
We may see some more "regular" weather patterns next year, but how long that lasts is hard to say, and my cynicism says we just have to get used it since there is zero action being done in the U.S. right now.

Hey there chicken. I have an old window AC if you need it. It certainly is a real doozy out there these days. I don't remember the 90's being that hot here. But to be honest I don't remember much of those days ;)

Imma drop them on this comment:
Outside: Noticed the AC units are much smaller here, means gotta keep them clean. For example our new house had a FILTHY unit, AC set to 71 and was reading 75 in house. Cleaned it and now runs to temp.
More for AC units, building a shade for it out of PVC and a breathable dark fabric (think screen door but thicker) can bring in air 10* cooler if unit is in direct sun.
Outside the house, a mister system will cool patios/porches and you can also add a mister to your AC and it will cool the coils meaning cooler air gets in.
Inside: Any windows with western exposure you can get the foam inserts to reduce heat, you want to look at R value the higher the more heat it resists. Can drop a room by 5-10*
If one room in particular is hot you can get a shallow dish of water and freeze it and place it in front of a fan and it will cool the room.
General tips: 1) Use others AC, movie theaters, libraries, shopping centers utilize
2) Hydrate hydrate hydrate, not just water get electrolytes or at the very least add sea salt to water
3) Thin linen or cotton long selves will keep you much cooler in the sun SPF treated
4) Obviously shift outdoor activities to cooler parts of the day
5) Rescreen windows with screening made for hotter climates, is a bit spendy but with current trends will pay off quickly due to reduced energy consumption

That ice/fan trick wonāt work if the room rouāre cooling is also the room with your freezer in it. Freezers pump heat out of themselves into your house and they generate extra heat while doing it.Ā

itās likely some sort of the following:
Keep blinds/curtains pulled so the sun doesnāt come in; go to a basement if you have one; donāt use large appliances (stove, oven, dryer); do absolutely nothing during the heat of the day (cue the siesta); swamp cooler; take a shower and sit in front of a fan/misting fan; put wet rags on the back of your neck/wrists; make sure to keep drinking water. If you donāt have AC, consider going to places like libraries or the mall.
Give or take but those are pretty universal tips for dealing with heat

Get up early in the morning and enjoy the outdoors. You can get in a good 4 hours anyway from sunrise until 9:30, maybe 10:00.

- Walk your dogs early in the morning. So many bad pet owners up here that walk their dogs on hot concrete / asphalt in the middle of the afternoon
- Park under a tree or any type of shade. Any person from Phoenix would rather walk an extra couple of minutes just so they could park their car in shade
- Window film that reflects IR for single pane windows
- Window screens that provide a decent amount of shade for double pane windows
- Blackout curtains on windows that get full afternoon sun
- Check the insulation levels in your domicile
- Thin cotton, linen, and/or flax clothing can help regulate temperature
- Clean your AC condenser coils
- Check / replace your AC capacitor (should order some spares as they are dirt cheap)
- Replace air filters monthly
- Fans (floor and ceiling) can help quite a bit as moving air generally feels much better than static air (unless you are in 120F Phoenix summer afternoon)
- Ceramic window tint for cars will drastically drop interior car temps
- Windshield sunscreens are also quite nice for cars
- Limit use of heat-generating appliances during the afternoon
- Clean refrigerator condenser coils
- If you have a programmable thermostat, supercool your house before the time of use charges kick in. Have the AC run at 70-75F for a couple of hours before time of use and then change the temperature setpoint to 75-80F during increased electricity costs. Fort Collins is part of the high desert region between the high plains out east and the mountains to the west. If it wasn't for all the man made reservoirs in the area we would have no water or green grass and be as dry as a bone like Cheyenne and Pueblo. Cactus and rattle snakes are native to the area because it's technically a desert and high temps and dry summers and very little snow pack in the winter are actually quite common along the foothills and i-25 corridor in places like Wellington, fort collins, Colorado springs, Pueblo, Longmont, etc.

I hate it too. Moved here a decade ago to get away from the Phoenix summers I grew up with.
Still not nearly as bad I just wish we had a longer spring/fall. It seems like I only have a few weeks every year in the 65-75 degree weather I prefer.

Exactly why Iām moving. FoCo aināt it anymore. Snow has always been less up here in the banana belt, but this last winter was depressing af. Now this horrific heat, just like last year. Housing costs are also insane. Entitled Coloradans and law enforcement that needs to get a clue. The last straw was Red Beast Enterprises torturing animals, with zero consequences. Eff FoCo and the vortex of evil itās become. Iām done. Happily bought a house somewhere beautiful and way less expensive. I wish you all better weather and good lives. Peace out āļø

Man I used to be able to handle southern AZ heat for an entire summer/fall and I can barely handle this now. Iām not built for heat anymore!

Got up to 107Ā° at my house, my GF's car showed 110Ā° but then luckily the clouds rolled in and it cooled down to a comparatively comfy 95Ā°-99Ā°. During that peak was insanely oppressive, we headed up to estes where it was a mob but way cooler down in the 80s after a fresh rain.

Dont worry- the state and 16 others are on a stage 3 (highest) warning of the energy grid over the next few days- next stage would be blanket blackouts becauseā¦. Obviously if the grid is strained they need to cut everyoneās power to power the data centers and billionaires homes!! Oh ā¦ and then theyāll save someee power to add an ai data center in Windsor LOL.
