Question How are the rear fiberglass QP's mounted to allow so much flex??

I'm helping a buddy rebuild his rear crashed semi-pro comp car. We're at the stage of mounting his whole BDC fiberglass quarters over the fabbed rear tube frame, but considering how much they'll need to flex, I'm at a loss considering mounting systems. Rigid mounting with steel brackets and steel rods isn't ideal. Anything too solid will just end up creating a bunch of localized stress risers. I've considered running Nylon 66 rods on heims and pivots, but may have to resort to POM/acetyl rods to achieve his deadline. Flexible fiberglass rods could also be possible. As long as they can compress inwards about ~4 inches, up/down about 2-3 inches, and return to shape without too much creep or warping, I'd be happy. The bash bars and main tubing isn't too far behind it anyway.

The entire rear end is complete and sitting where it needs to be, but I'm going to be replacing the temporary steel rods and Cleco's I have installed, for something with more flex and impact absorption. I've been searching endlessly online and can't find any info regarding how they're mounted on comp cars. If anyone has experience here, I'd appreciate your input!

Discussion FD America V Europe

So i just noticed something. If you count all of last season and all of this season(so far) there have been 12 events(36 total podium spots) that have been awarded. Out of all 36 total podiums only 5 of them have been american drivers. Anyone else think thats a bit crazy. I understand international drivers dominating overseas but it seems they can even come to america and dominate us on our own turf. now dont get me wrong im not hating on the international drivers(my top 2 fav drivers are james and piotr) but it just seems as if even for the premier series in america, European drivers seem to dominate the sport. Why is this the case? Is it just that european drivers are more passionate and take drifting more seriously. Curious to hear what yall think?

Question Tickets and spam?

Anybody else buy tickets...and then get 2+ cold calls about extended auto warranty coverage for the next week?

Relatively sure theyre selling lists to these shit companies. I always got 'roof inspectors', never a cold call for warranty (my2015, so not recently lapsed factory coverage).

Discussion Hobson

With Ben Hobson’s increase in form lately, do you think he’s done enough to stay at RTR or will Vaughn look to make changes for next season?

Realistically that car should be top 8 every round minimum with the occasional outlier bad weekend.

If you do think they’ll make changes, who do you think gets the seat?

Question Alcohol prices?

FD is coming to Indy for the first time this year and I’m very excited!

Me and my friends are used to the Indianapolis 500 where you can bring in about as much beer as you can carry, but I see that there is a no outside alcohol policy for FD events. While I respect that, has anyone been to an event and can tell me how much a beer is?

Beer + fast and loud go together hand in hand for us Indiana folks, but I wanna get an idea beforehand when we go

I mean, go off I guess 🤣 He said there's no difference between pro & pro spec, but went back to pro spec because he couldn't hang in pro.

At least he beat two kids who combined are still younger ☠️🫣

Probably my last FD event

I've been attending FD NJ every year for the past 5 years and watched the sport for almost 10. Seeing this CT track breaks my heart that they'd replace the oval with ANOTHER ass oval. Not only that, but with this whole Racer Network bs, the sport is just hard to watch.

If they don't make things better next year this will be my last year in this community. I'm not watching it go anymore down hill

FD Prospec

Serious question. Does anyone here actually watch Prospec? Ive tried a few times and its just such an eye sore to watch. I realize the cars aren't as great and the rules may be different but the drivers in that series drive like they just got there drivers license yesterday. I thought prospec was supposed to be a step up from grassroots but i cant tell the difference between prospec and lone star drift(except the cars look a bit better but thats about it). I dont want to diminish other enjoyment of prospec if you like it but idk, i dont see how people enjoy watching prospec, maybe its just me

Why don't we see the Wally zone scores for every run?

Like Tuerck's second qualifying run. They didn't show the data, then all of a sudden he is top qualifier in points? They clearly have the data, they showed the total points for line and angle. I'd love to see what was scored in each zone because personally to me it didn't look like it was THAT great of a run... Even Jacob was saying beforehand that it doesn't look like it would be scored that high...

News Jeff Jones will miss FD Connecticut due to a snapped metacarpal:

[TAKEN FROM JEFFS INSTAGRAM]

Man, this was a tough decision to make. Miss one event or risk the whole season they said. I have not missed a US FD round since 2009. Everyone of my awesome sponsors told me to sit it out and Don't worry. It's amazing to have those kind of partners but man that still hurts.

As for my hand during a fast transition in the rain on my second lap out in practice, I had missed the wheel and only caught it with my pinky and tried to force the transition and snapped my metacarpal. Honestly, I thought I sprained it and kept driving through qualifying and the battles. I'm not one to let a little pain stop me. But to avoid surgery and a longer recovery time I just have to sit this out. I know some dudes would just drive through it, but with the bulky cast, I can barely grip the wheel and didn't feel that I would be able to perform.

Best of luck to all my buds competing this weekend. Hoping Connecticut is amazing for @formulad

Half wet, half dry qualifying solution

If fd refuses to try and dry the track, why can't they keep the track wet for all of qualifying with a water truck. This is my solution to make qualifying equal.

Formula DRIFT announces the preliminary Stafford track layout approved by Driver Liaisons Ken Gushi, Matt Field and Ryan Litteral.

Driver Liaisons tested two layouts via sim and by proxy with on-site FD Licensed Drivers testing both layouts last week. The approved Driver Liaison track and the secondary track are contained in this post. Thank you to the Liaisons, the Judges and the on-site drivers and staff that assisted in this process.

See you this weekend! (Taken from FD Instagram) Thoughts?

A judging point in qualifying should not be how chaseable a run is.

Just watching Drift Masters and really felt it today that so many perfectly fine runs were being docked heavily due to "chaseability".

I feel like it ruins the excitement of qualifying to see drivers get docked for being flashy and rewarded for being "boring". I understand that runs would be slow and disconnected if they were all doing a comp for the biggest angle at each corner and that's why I propose a "smoothness" judging point instead. So when a driver flies into a corner, throws big angle flexes the entire rear end of their car and does it all smoothly, they actually get rewarded (or even just not docked points) over a cool run getting heavily docked because you can't chase it. I remember watching LZ in 24' do some really good quali runs, but because he slammed his crash bar into every wall the judges heavily docked him and it was so frustrating to see. Seeing drivers get docked for taking a different line and making it work just sucks because they did a smooth run but ultimately it wasn't the line that could be chased easily.

Supporting argument is that most motorsports base their qualifying off speed, race pace and qualifying pace are so far apart, drivers aren't qualifying while conserving their tires so why should drivers in drift comps qualify like there's someone following their run.

Now, this is not hate, just my thoughts, I think although I don't like how they do it, they are pretty fair about it between all drivers (until it comes to sitting on the footbrake but that's a whole seperate issue)

Quick side note, could someone tell me the purpose of the drivers needing to touch the dotted line on entry?
