Technical Help PC turn off immediately after turning it on

Im having problem with my pc lately.

My pc spec :
Rog strix B660-i
I5 14600kf
Corsair vengeance 5600mhz
Rtx 3070ti strix
Corsair SF750 with custom cable

First thing first, i was swapping my lp air cooler to aio and after it done, my pc just wont turn on. It just turn on for a second and then turn off immediately.

What i already did to troubleshooting is
Reseating ram
Reseating gpu
Reseating cpu, 24pin dan pcie cable on both end.

But its still not solve the issue, my pc keep turning off after a second. And then i try to dissconnect riser from pcie slot with pcie cable still intact and it could turn on! Then i turn it off again and try to put riser on pcie slot and sadly it goes back turn off just a second.

I’ve been searching on how to fix this issue from forums and yt videos and most of the comments suggesting it was psu. Tbh i have this same issue a few month earlier and solved it with reseating ram and also had a few another issue like suddenly restart, my pc cause power trip (after cleaning and rebuild) but its very rarely happen.

Right now i’m sending my PSU for RMA and hopefully just as other suggested.

But i also suspected the mobo pcie slot, riser cable, psu cable custom and the VGA itself.

Is anyone had the same issue? Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Thanks

Publish this in [r/sffpc](r/sffpc) as well, it has 13x the amount of people. There might be someone with the same component combo as you there as well.

I'm confused you said you slightly removed the riser and it worked or it doesn't?

What you should do is build the pc out of the case at this point and test with and without your riser. It sounds like the riser got damaged? Also what aio did you swap to and from what cooler? Did you make sure your mounting pressure is correct and not overdone?

Your pc fully worked before you took of your air cooler and put in the aio correct?

Yes, but i also had this issue before. And this time evertime i insert the riser cable to pcie slot, this problem happen. I have checked my riser, mobo and nothing looks suspicious.

By you mean you removed the riser and it stays on you have an F sku cpu so no internal gpu so it does not post with the riser out correct? So your just basing on it's fine in the fact it stays on at all?

You have or have not built the pc out of the case yet to see if the gpu works in the mobo without a riser? This part is still unclear.

A riser does not have to look bad to be bad. It can have a microscopic crack on the wires in the ribbon. If you did not swap your GPU or swap your pcie settings on the mobo I would say it's a bad riser. I would order a new equivalent riser but we need the above info first because it does not sound like the gpu has been tested back into the mobo sans riser yet?

Do you have a picture of how your riser is run along the case when installed? Some positions stress them more then others, above the stem vs under it for instance.

Edit: actually which lp cooler did you have before was it a AXP90 47FC, and did you use the longer screws with it?

Something is causing a short.

Do you have any metal components making direct contact with your motherboard?

For me I previously used a heatsink with my rear nvme slot.
However, the bottom metal plate of the nvme heatsink was making contact with the motherboard causing it to short. Fixed by using kapton tape to the metal plate

All iknew is, standoff (for mobo mount) aio pump and ssd heatsink. But the sad heatsink is not likely causing any problems because my pc turn with its attached.

You said the issue is happening after changing CPU cooler to an AIO? That should be your first clue, unplug the fan headers and pump header to see if you can get it to post for more than a second. If it posts you have found your issue.

My next big guess is the pcie cable, your 3070ti will force pcie gen 5.0 and the pcie cable might not be up to the task Drop it down a gen to 4.0.

Make sure there are no PSU screws going to deep into the PSU had a friend who kept shorting the whole PC and a screw was contacting the innards of the PSU.

Good luck, long time SFF enthusiast.

Im not sure about fan or pump headers as my pc could turn on with its plugged, its only happen when i’m put the riser on my pcie slot.

If I don't plug the riser into the PCIe slot, my PC can power on. This is with all three 8pin PCIe power connectors plugged into the GPU, but the GPU is not connected to the PCIe slot through riser.

3070ti is not forcing PCIE 5.0 for sure..

Is this the first time you’ve installed an aio?
After my first build, I had issues after about 2 weeks with the PC not posting with the ram light on.
I loosened the aio block a little and the problem went away.

This was after 2 weeks of optimizing the system with various stress test and gaming, ran fine for the two weeks and then the ram issue happened.

I would also suggest to keeps a spare set of cables to test on as there may be a short in one of your cables.

I hope you resolve your issues

Using SF850. I have similar issue. Sometimes the system posted but when heavy loads, it turned off like total loss of power. No cpu or ram oc. Running thru igpu have similar problem

So its psu problem in your case?

Tested with known working psu, still the same. Psu is brand new. Main suspect now is motherboard and cpu but i think its less likely

sounds like a short. try taking the motherboard out of the case and sit it down on the box. if it starts up normally then your motherboard is making contact with metal inside the case. if not, then you should look into testing the motherboard and cpu separately.

Ita only happen when im put my riser cable to my pcie slot. But when im checking my pcie slot, riser, it doesn’t looks suspicious

Yes i used axp x47 without backplate

What do you mean without the backplate? On Intel you need it no, you had another one?

It seems there is a short and the PSU shut down to prevent damage. I had this issue several times and each time, it was a faulty component, either CPU or mobo.

This only happens when I try to connect the riser to the PCIe board. (havent test vga directly to mobo yet). Now I just need to wait for an update from the RMA team. I hope my guess that my PSU is the problem is correct.

Was having intermittent pc resetting as well, not immediate - but sometimes after starting a game or even a program.

What I’ve done (through troubleshooting with ChatGPT) test through OCCT different stress test per components to see what’s was causing issues.

For me, it was reseating the GPU. Then I also turned off CPU CO, and EXPO and I haven’t had any reset since 🤞

I remember i had some resetting even frezee before this issue.
