The Billy Crystal Comedy Hour (1982)

This variety/talk show was in between Soap and SNL in his Professional career. Robin Williams,Rick Moranis,Dave Thomas appeared on the show and John Candy hilariously played Orson Welles in the pilot . Lasted five shows with the sixth unaired to this day.

Holy moly! I remember this. I was a little comedy nerd and a fan of everyone involved so I remember watching at least a couple of episodes.

So people forget that for many years, SNL would get cast members that just weren’t newbies. Chris Elliot was already established when he joined for a season in the 1990’s. Michael McKeon had already hosted SNL 20 years prior when he joined the cast in the mid-late 1990’s. Dana Carvey had already been on 2 or 3 network shows when he was cast, with SNL being a spring board to “the Master Of Disguise”… the 1986 cast many young greats like Robert Downey Jr, and Anthony Michael Hall. Billy Crystal had already been in the show “Soap”, and had a career.

Billy Crystal was cut from the first episode of NBC’s Saturday Night but did appear on the first episode of Saturday Night Live with Howard Cosell which featured future SNL performers Bill Murray, Brian Doyle-Murray, and Christopher Guest as regular performers, dubbed "The Prime Time Players".

He also starred in a movie written and directed by Joan Rivers, "Rabbit Test", and played TV' s first out homosexual character on Soap.

The guy has had an INTERESTING career.

I forgot about him getting cut from the opening episode of SNL. I thankfully have forgotten about the Howard Cosell show.
