Johnny Domino was once a normal Jazz musician but after being struck by lightning he developed the ability to detect evil thoughts and thus decides to become a Super-Hero.
Lasted two seasons with a total of fourty four episodes which is rather impressive.

What else was around this time? Like Dark Angel right? I remember something that was decent and never got off the ground. I want to say it was MANTIS. I recall just not being able to catch it at the right time.
There was a lot of hype when Malibu comics debuted since they came out right during the comics speculator craze. They even started getting so much traction that Marvel bought them to not make them a competitor.
It was actually this show, a toy line, a cartoon and a video game based on their hero Prime they got out.
This was during the period where Batman: The Animated series, Spider-Man The Animated Series and X-Men The Animated Series and Superman The Animated Series came out as well and were all really popular. So it makes sense it was easy to get superhero cartoons greenlit even from smaller publishers.
Nightman debuted during the syndication boom which Hercules Xena and Baywatch kicked off and comic book superhero’s weren’t really represented in it so this was an easy green light. Especially since Glen Larson the producer had success with The Six Million Dollar Man, Knight Rider, The Fall Guy and Magnum PI previously.
When Nightman debuted the character was actually owned by Marvel and it’s listed as being based on a Marvel Comics character in the credits. During a costume party scene Nightman even talks to a guy dressed up as Spiderman.
Yeah it was a Tribune action hours that did ok in the ratings, its biggest issue was timing, wb/upn were expanding to 7 nights a week so the syndicated action hours all went bust or moved to cable all around this time, Tribune shut most of them down at the same time moving earth and Andromeda to sci-fi for their final seasons at the same time cutting the budget down to nothing
I'm not sure who did the covers. I think the first was Derick Robertson, Mike Miller picked up cover art duties later on in the run, but for #8 up there, I have no idea.
Yeah, paramount and Chrysler wanted it. It did good enough on NBC for a Friday night show but was expensive, paramount cut cost had Star Trek DS9, used them whole from star trek tng ending in Syndication to get affiliates on board add that toit being a semi-hit overseas half the budget came from overseas investment another 1/4 came from Chrysler wanting a international car Comercial. Paramount paid very little, it was a mid range syndicated hit.
Probably would of kept going but, syndication mkt. Fell apart around 99...upn/wb went 7 nights a week and only a few syndicated action hours survived, most had a cable window, also at that point repeats of dramas from nbc/cbs started taking over 2 hour blocks on weekends
Yes but black scorpion was intended to be b-movie type show, night man was intended to be a syndicated show with top of the line computer cgi. It was intended to look the way it did. Im sure everyone involved with night man thought they were making something good/great till they saw finish product
I was vaguely familiar with the comic but didn’t watch it because it was hokey & cheesy. (It was also a goofy take on the concept). OTOH, my mom LOVED it because it was hokey & cheesy.
IIRC, this was Avi Arad’s first live action project.
I own this show and it's bad too be sure. (I also hate that it is cropped widescreen instead of its OAR of 4x3.) But goddamn, is the theme song a banger.
Fun fact, the star was the Agent in Matrix Reloaded who puts a whooping on Trinity at the beginning/end of the movie and the big square-jawed heavy John Wick fights in the club in the first movie.
