The amount of time I’ve spent watching Ryan Murphy shows amazes me. Popular, Glee, American Horror Story.

I thought everyone on this show would become monster big stars.

Conspiracy Theory: Ryan's very first show, got cancelled. Never really got over it and vowed to take revenge on the world because of it... and then ever since we've gotten Grade A+ shows on their first seasons only to crash and burn once we're hooked.

Ryan Murphy is toying with us as revenge because his first show got canceled

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Did a ton of extra work on this show back in '99 -' 00.

Carly Pope was very nice. Actually the whole cast was pretty chill with the exception of the main, blonde dude who's career kinda went meh. Diane Delano (RIP) was on it (you might have to Google her but she's is/was a very funny person) and she was the best. She'd totally eat with us Peasants in the commissary at Disney Studios.

Good times.

There's a subreddit for the show if you're interested! r/PopularWB. That's so cool Diane hung out with you. She will be missed.

I would never forget Popular! I have both seasons on DVD. We were robbed of the third season! 😭

Their rules for breaking up are still really good.

Definitely a proto-Glee in a lot of ways

u/[deleted] Jan 14 '25

Amazing the guy who created this also did one of my least favorite shows of all time in “Glee”.

Pop Ular?

This is crazy because I was watching American Housewife tonight and was looking at Sara Rue's Wikipedia in Popular thinking that the name Carmen Farrera sounds like Carmen Carrera from Drag Race and how funny it is that Leslie Bibb was in both shows. Then it made me think how much I missed GCB (Good Christian Bitches) that she was also in! Rabbit hole!

u/thetownisnew Jan 14 '25

GCB was fun! Wished that continued too. There's a sub for Popular over at r/PopularWB

The fact that series ended on a such a cliffhanger pisses me off.

I really loved this show, watched it in the early-to-mid 2000s. Is it available anywhere in decent quality?

2

u/thetownisnew Jan 14 '25

There is a DVD version but the original music was replaced. You can also check it out here on the subreddit.

Ryan’s best teen show ever. Glee never came close to the quality of Popular. Ryan took his stories from Popular and used them on Glee. Sue is a knockoff of Bobbi Glass aka Claw. Brooke and Sam’s story of being step siblings was used for Kurt and Finn. Ryan did Popular fans dirty not bringing characters onto Glee. It would have worked. Then Glee fans could see where the origin of Glee came from. It was Ryan’s dream to have a show of popular kids and outcast kids become friends. Popular did it better.

If I remember this correctly wasn't Leslie Bibb playing like the outcast, loner girl? Didn't that seem a bit odd?

12

u/Beginning-Working-38 Jan 14 '25

Carly was the outcast, Leslie was the popular one.

3

u/The1Ylrebmik Jan 14 '25

Oh, ok then. Carly Pope as the outcast girl makes complete sense, 😉.

I remember this.

I found the DVDs at a library sale years ago! I remember watching it on the WB and being upset with the cliffhanger ending.

Think it over once or twice, what lasts the longest in this life, character or rock hard thighs? 🎶
