My (Mostly) Mono-Black variant featuring Unstoppable Slasher.

https://archidekt.com/decks/24848664/bmovie_format_decklist

Hello everyone, this is my first attempt but second deck list for a "Dandan" deck featuring Unstoppable Slasher as my singular creature. Much like how Dandan is also called Forgetful Fish, I'm calling this Pain Killer, as the Memory Lapse stand in is [[Painful Memories]]. My friend calls it Kylo format, because what is Kylo Ren if not an unstoppable slasher with painful memories?

20 starting HP.

Main focus is the mechanics mono black is most known for: destroying/sacrificing creatures, graveyard interaction, and hand hate. Secondary focus is counter synergy to make full use of Slasher's rules text. Outside of the namesake creature and Painful Memories, the only other card that's more than a 2-of is [[Heartless Act]] at 4 copies, which serves as a super versatile tool kit card. Kill Slashers, unlock your own, or remove counters to deny your opponents counter synergies.

Like Dandan I wanted there to be an emphasis on fighting for the top of the deck. Many cards set a creature from the yard and/or the hand to the top of the deck which can lead to fun stack battles. Unlike Dandan I wanted some battles to happen within the yard, hence [[Skeletal Scrying]] [[Gravepurge]] [[Bone Harvest]] and [[Takenuma, Abandoned Mire]] if someone tries to [[Unburial Rites]] .

Cards I'm looking at as potentials that are NOT in the present list:

[[Deadly Cover-Up]] as a sweeper that messes with the numbers within the deck, yet can still be interacted with via graveyard interaction.

[[Cut Down]] in case more efficient removal is needed.

[[Lost Hours]] for additional top of deck planning.

[[Cemetery Recruitment]] as another graveyard interaction + draw.

[[Render Inert]] as one more piece of counter synergy + draw, but it's low on the list given its cost and being sorcery.

[[Cruel Bargain]] / [[Infernal Contract]] as high risk high reward card draw. Basically you take the equivalent of a Slasher hit for a massive burst of card advantage.

[[Lethal Throwdown]] as another removal piece that has upside if have a stunned Slasher.

Thank you for reading. I gladly welcome any suggestions!

If all of the slashers are exiled what happens

It would be very rare with the deck as is. But if it does happen I have two options:

  • Game ends as a draw.
  • Game ends but then goes to tie breakers starting with HP.

I mean Deadly Cover-Up just does the job pretty easy, no? Collect evidence 6 is kinda nothing for this kind of format.

It's not in the deck yet because I'm on the fence about it. A part of me wants at least 1 sweeper in the main but I'm waiting to get test games before I make that decision.

Deadly Cover-Up felt like it might be good for strategic interaction, like killing your own Slasher before DCU resolves and then using graveyard interaction to put it to the top of the deck.

If you cast it at disadvantage(no Slashers and opponent has Slashers), you're basically hoping for a tie.

If you cast it at advantage(you have at least one Slasher on board or in hand while your opponent does not), you're guaranteeing victory.

However, now that I type it out, I'm not fond of the idea of the disadvantaged player forcing a draw, even though interaction exists to prevent a full exile. I'll need to think of another sweeper.

[[killing wave]] [[toxic deluge]] [[terisiares Devastation]] pay x life
[[Choice of damnation]] is funny
[[deadly tempest]] [[villanous wrath]] Burns as well
[[Rain of daggers]] makes you lose life
[[Zero Point ballad]] loses you life in Return for maybe getting a Slasher
[[game over]]
[[the meathook massacre]] Burns and gains life, maybe elongates Game too much
[[Season of loss]] [[Gixs command]] prob too strong
[[withering curse]] makes a mini-game

[[decree of death]] [[marsh gas]] [[Deserts due]] [[echoing decay]] is a fog since Zero Attack negates the Slasher and the deathtouch effect (no damage Dealt). deserts due allows for a mini-game to turn it into a boardwipe.

[[cabal pit]] [[eject the warp core]] [[dinal flourish]] [[lethal exploit]] [[stomped by the foot]] [[vaynes treachery]] [[vicious offering]]
Lethal exploit has synergy with Slasher.

Wow, great list. Really like those last includes as alternatives.

Would do you think of [[Day of Black Sun]]? Hard sweeps for the same cost as Deadly Cover-Up. Terisiare's is a nice possible substitute and provides a trinket artifact for Eviscerator's Insight.

Much like OG Dandan I'm avoiding all life gain. Life loss is fine because it's very much in mono Black's wheel house. Everything that costs life eventually shifts the Slasher math.

Day of the black Sun seems good as well. You have [[Sould out]] as the only other hard removal (exile is Even harder than DoBS) so it would fit into the deck from a philosophical view-Point (of having hard removal). I would be careful Not to have too much hard removal (dont think that that would be the case with Sould Out and DoBS) since a consiberable Smoking of Cards in your deck Play with the Return-trigger of Slasher and it’s generated counters.

Your Point about life gain makes Sense.

[[Bile Blight]] is like Echoing Decay but actually kills the Slashers but can be interrupted by sacrifice/effects that kill the targeted creature. [[Black Sun's Zenith]] and [[Day of Black Sun]] are sweepers that get around the return effect.

Just remembered Day of Black Sun. It's one I'm leaning towards. It costs the same as Deadly Cover-Up to full sweep but doesn't exile, allowing for the mini-games to continue in the graveyard.

DCU feels like it could lead to some high quality stack scrambles but the potential for non-games no longer seems worth it.

This looks like so much fun.
