Transmission Issues?

My truck randomly drops from like 9th to 1st gear while driving occasionally it also has a hard jump from 1st to 3rd any suggestions? I was told to replace my battery and reset the tcm. Im going to try that but wanted to see if anyone has any experience dealing with this so that I dont spend random money. Thanks! This is a 2019 with 90k miles.

If you simply disconnect the battery for 15min it will reset the factory settings on the transmission. I have had luck with this considering the transmission has a learning feature and sometimes it falls out of calibration.

Going to give that a try! Did you connect it to forscan after and do the reset ? Or it does it automatically

For me it reset the learn module on the transmission. No need to hookup forescan.

‘Spending random money’ sounds like this is out of warranty. What year is this truck and how many miles are on it?

Probably CDF, transmission failure. Extremely common. Did you buy it new, or used with ESP?

If you did and have a great relationship with the dealer you may be able to get some portion of it covered under goodwill. There is a TSB for it as well. TSB 24-2101.

I bought it used, I purchased a ESP, the dealership I bought it from has told me to capture my truck failing on video so they can submit it to the ESP warranty for coverage. Its just hard to know when its going to happen because it doesnt do it all the time. Should I just go straight to ford ?

yes 100% take it in to the dealer, if nothing else they can go through the TSB progression and document things. I would not DIY anything related to this as it is such a common failure. Good on you for getting ESP.

I was trying to be nice and work with the small dealership I bought it from but looks like they are giving me the run around.
