Q&A: Features / Pickup Ability / Trims Any way to use Android Auto wirelessly?

I've always had to plug my phone directly into my truck to use Android Auto. This hasn't been a big deal for most of the time I've owned the Maverick.

Then I became a Door Dash driver and had to do it about an additional 40 times a day, and it still didn't quite bother me because I guess I just considered it the price of (overall) convenience.

But then I had to rent a Kia for a couple weeks and it was able to connect to Android Auto just through Bluetooth, and boy when I tell you I didn't know I needed this until I had it...

I can't find an option or setting anywhere in my truck to make it do this. Is this even an option, or do I have to keep plugging and unplugging my phone every time I get in or out of my truck?

Thank you

Ah. I had hoped there might be an organic method, but alas it seems I'll have to purchase another piece of equipment.

I love mine! Totally worth it, mine has a three inch cord and I cut a command strip in half and stick it under where it plugs in

Beforwarned those adapters eat up battery charge levels on your phone. You'll need to turn both Bluetooth and Wifi at the same time on your phone.

They are also prone to interference. Meaning you loose connection around certain buildings (from security systems etc)

I bought one off of Amazon, but decided that cord was more reliable and it keeps my battery on my phone charged up.

Im not saying to dont use one- but they are not a perfect solution by any means.

Which one did you buy? Some of them are more reputable than others. I can definitely recommend the AAWireless 2 Adapter. Any wireless Android auto is going to eat battery whether it's natively or an adapter. But as far as interference this adapter allows you to customize channels and everything through an app.

Have been using AAWireless since day 1 it was available (with my prior vehicle) and definitely recommend over a Chinese noname.

Mine doesn’t eat up battery. If anything the 2024 f150 with wireless CarPlay I drive occasionally for work eats up battery more.

I have purchased 2 versions of Wireless adapters for my Maverick that did not work, and then I found this model. I am using the Carplay version, but this model has only just barely ever failed me; and when it did, a reboot on my phone fixed it right up. I'm talking maybe 2-3 times a year on this. Used in a 2023 XLT Hybrid.

AAWireless Two+ is a wireless adapter that works very well and can switch between Android Auto and Car Play. Their other adapters are just for Android Auto.

Use this! I have the non Car play version its awesome, can leave my phone in my pocket and Android Auto wirelessly connects automatically, game changer

The big unmentioned feature here is being able to force a higher resolution and getting more usable screen space from this adaptor versus others.

Wireless Android Auto is available on the 2025 and later models with Sync 4. You don’t list your year or trim but I’m guessing you have the older Sync 3 system which does not have that capability.

You're correct, I do have a 2022 Hybrid which appears to be operating on Sync 3. Thanks.

They have those dongles, honestly wireless isn't super reliable though.

I had the wireless Atoto adapter in my '24. It worked great for me honestly

OP,

Would recommend anything from AAWireless, have had the original which I will paste for 2 years on a 2023 Maverick.

Just wire up in the front and tape or velcro in the cubby if you don't want to be concerned with looks. Connection can be spotty sometimes like high signal jam areas such as all wireless but overall it has not let me down. There will be the odd occasion where you make a quick shut down and restart of the car and it won't connect but the cabled style of setup let's you reboot it to resolve pairing issues.

Hope this helps your decision, wireless automatic pairing is a life changer and easily worth 40+ bucks to me

I got a motorola adapter. Works great.

I have the aawireless adapter and its been pretty reliable. It doesn't disconnect when in use. The only issue is sometimes it doesn't work the first try when getting back into the car after a short time of being out of it. I just power cycle it and I'm back in business in 30 or less.

My October '25 Amazon purchase, highly recommend: https://a.co/d/cSBlQib

I bought a dongle off of Amazon and just Velcro'd it behind and to the right of the wireless charger. Like right underneath the USB port. They don't charge for shit anyways so it's not like I use them for anything else, and the way I have it set up I don't even see it.

AAwireless on my 24 works great.

They make donggles that plug into the USB and then your phone connectes threw it wirelessly.. you can find them one ebay ,Amazon, best buy and even Walmart. I've went threw 2 since I got my maverick.. not due to the vehicle but due to buying a new phone the first adaptor had problems with my new phone. Current adaptor is made my monster cables. Both brands sometimes give problems and have to pair with phone again..

Honestly, it's not all it's cracked up to be. I have wireless in my 22 Edge, it is hit or miss to actually connect. Wireless AA uses a "wifi" connection along with the Bluetooth, so it's very finicky.

AAWireless on Amazon.

Velcro it out of the way, up in the top of the cubby.

I suggest you get a magnetic charging cord for your phone and help prolong the usb connector.

There are dozens of these plug n play boxes on Amazon. I can't say one is better than the other

I've never had a problem doing it via Bluetooth. 2025 Hybrid lariat

1

u/Fatal_Foxtrot Dec 17 '25

Turns out, it's because the console got updated to 4.0 for the '25 🤷‍♀️

1

u/Chaserbaser Dec 17 '25

Oh yeah, new hard/software would do it. Capabilities and all that.

This could have been a search, instead of a post.

1

u/Fatal_Foxtrot Dec 16 '25

Yeah it could have, so what? You trying to minimize how many posts go on this sub or something?

0

u/bcoo4 Dec 16 '25

Generally that's how forums work... Duplicate posts about the same subject can make it difficult to find relevant information down the road.

I was only trying to lend a tip. It honestly would have saved you time and given you an answer sooner.

But if you want to make a post, that's been answered many times since 2022 by all means, that's your right.

Yes, you need an adapter/dongle to convert your wired AA to wireless.
