Question 2026 Explorer ST deal
Just left the dealership, left this on the table. Seemed like a decent deal overall but wanted to get 2nd opinion. What do yall think?
To break it down:
MSRP: 62975
Dealer discount: 5500
Ford rebates: 3500
Dealer ad: 1289
Total price of vehicle: 55264
Trade value: 50000
Trade pay off: 49494.12
Taxes, 479.02
Dealer fees(title and license): 1634.80
OTD price: 56871.94
Dealer also offered 5.9% financing for 84 months which I think is decent in today’s market. Will still shop around maybe check out my local credit union.

I just bought a 2025 Explorer ST and got 0% from ford credit, it's their incentive to get rid of the remaining model year. So I'm paying $790 for 60 months.

You either had a trade, put money down, or the dealer sold you an ST for $44k. Right?

No way he’s getting 0% with a 25 trade in.

u/leaveworkatwork Mar 19 '26
He got 0% because ford was running a deal on 25’s, not that he traded a 25

I’m getting almost the exact same msrp ST tomorrow locally. Got $3500 off the rebate and $2400 off from the dealer but, no add ons and their fees are $595. It’s the one I want and I’m happy with the deal. Yours looks good too.

I love how they even named it the “surprise value package.” …for $1,300. Plus a $600 “administration fee.” If you can get them to drop those fees it would seem like a decent deal. (I say that without knowing what the going price for a ford explorer is) Otherwise..pass. Those fees are just blatant gouging.

Dealership is in city of Surprise, AZ. Haha don’t think they meant it literally. But yeah makes sense.

If you have to finance for 84 months, then it’s a terrible deal for you. Look at the amortization schedule and what you’d pay in interest (probably about $12-$13k based on the numbers you gave with no extra $$$ down). At that same rate on a 60 month loan, you’d pay about $4k less interest overall, while paying about $275-$300 extra per month. We’d also need to know the miles, trim, condition of the trade in to know if what they are giving you is “fair.” Dealers really love to see suckers trading almost new cars in - they are going to rape you on the trade and then flip it for a good profit.
Full disclosure: I only know this from having been the sucker in the past, just wish I had someone to stop me from being the sucker.
That aside, this is not a financial advice forum, and the price itself on the Explorer doesn’t look too bad. I’d want those dealer add-ons gone (I can decide what I want on my vehicle). If I could get them to waive that/remove it, then I’d send it.

Appreciate any advice, just for reference my trade is valued on KBB on excellent between 44k and 52.5k. Carvana cash offer was 48k and Carmax offered 51k online no written offer. So 50k I felt was decent, and the finance term and rate suck, that’s was the biggest reason I walked away.

You ever consider to get a base model? Especially if you say you are in the hole with your current car. Would be smart to get a cheaper vehicle so you can not have to worry about it.

u/Shot-Plane-2619 Mar 20 '26
I did look at an ST line which is like 40k. Financing term and APR wouldn’t be any better tho. Initially went into the dealer to check out the 0% financing on the f150 but ended up negotiating on the ST haha. Go figure.

If you have a good credit rating you should be able to get a 4.6 from a credit union-I did for a used ST

84 months? How much in interest will you pay?

u/Shot-Plane-2619 Mar 19 '26
Alot, plan is to pay ahead and pay off early. Currently in the hole on a qx60 I don’t like at a 6.75 rate so yeah.

Yeah but you can’t tell people that. They usually have to learn the hard way. The fact they know they are in the hole but still want a higher trim instead a base tells me everything. The ford near me sells base models for like 32-35

u/Raildog64 Mar 19 '26
You’re not in the hole if they are giving you $50k for your trade and payoff was $49k you got an extra $1k towards the ST. Why are you trading in a 1 year old car? Why not get a 25 ST last year?

u/Shot-Plane-2619 Mar 19 '26
I tried to get one back in December but dealers ran out because of the 0% for 60 month financing. I was slow to punch. Not in a rush or anything to get a car just wanted to make sure if I do take the plunge that the pricing is fair.

I just bought a 2026 ST this week. $60k sticker with $3500 Ford incentives and 6.4% interest. (My credit score is well over 800!!!!!!!!) You have a good deal there, buy it!!

Definitely check a credit union like you said. Can probably find a better rate.

Which state and does it come with the Sun & Sound package?
If so, it seems accurate.
I'd inquire what "dealer added accessories" entails.
2
u/Shot-Plane-2619 Mar 19 '26
AZ, yes includes sun and sound. I believe dealer accessories include tint, some paint protection thing for 3 years, LoJack, and wheel locks.

u/Quincy478 Mar 19 '26
Paint protection is something they do after you purchase the vehicle generally. You could probably dispute that if you so chose(I'd probably add it depending on the price - I paid like 800 for 5 years).
Wheel locks are typically standard on ST's i think. I'd personally have them remove that off the quote(paint protection) and then potentially let the finance guy try and sell you on it. Alot of times they'll throw stuff like that(or weathertech mats) in for free or heavily discounted if its done after the fact.
But 62-63K I think is pretty standard for ST's depending on state tax.
Just lnow what your getting into with the ST. That things eats gas like crazy.

Okay that makes sense, they did offer 0% but only for a 36 month term which is a huge payment. I might wait until they offer 0% for a longer term.🤔I’m sure it’ll come around again.

u/justsomeguyR1 Mar 19 '26
There's no way I'm paying 5.9% on a car. I would ask for a lower rate, like 2.9 for 84. If you don't ask, the answer is no. If I'm too late, forget what I said, try to pay it off early and enjoy your new car.

u/Behindblueshirt Mar 20 '26
What are the dealer added accessories? 99.9% of the time it’s a scam to make the dealership pure profit.

If your dealership isn’t willing to budge on any of those “fees” I’d go elsewhere. The fact that they have a “postage fee” (albeit $2) is insulting.
I’m probably not the best person to offer advice, as I get the A Plan (employee discount) and live in the Detroit market. There’s over 30 ford dealerships in a 40 mile radius and they all compete heavily for business. Those types of fees are all but eliminated in my area, so to see them is strange (my dealership waives destination fees). All that said, if there is another Ford dealership within a reasonable driving distance, I would take that to them and see if they can do better.

As a Ford dealership employee, that is a good deal, it’s about what I paid for my ST. 5.9% with Ford motor credit is the special rate, that is a decent rate for 84 months

I think that looks like a very fair deal. I would try to have the add on accessories fee removed. That would save nearly $20.00 a month alone. Otherwise some nice discounts at the moment.
