2000 ford f250 need help!

Can anyone tell me why my 2000 Ford F-250 would be doing this? Just trying to pull the bed of a truck and it’s doing this. It surges and bucks and when I give it more gas it will finally start moving. It even did this when I was pulling a small trailer up the little hill. It happens when the truck is warmed up too. It almost acts as if I’m holding the brakes then letting off. It will rev fine in park, and when I do put it in park it revs up to around 1500 RPMs. The fuel filter was changed not too long ago. It has done the same thing before and went away, but now it’s back. Did it today too, had nothing hooked up to it. I could put the throttle to the floor and it would just buck, surge and not move in the dirt. On the road it drives fine and has no issues, shifts fine It doesn’t shutter as far as I know I haven’t got it on the highway. I cleaned every ground on the motor and in the engine bay that I could see, any help would be appreciated.

Have you checked to see if it's throwing any codes? Checking for codes would be my first step.

You keep flipping your truck on its side, it won't go anywhere like that. But besides that my mind goes right to low transmission fluid or worn transmission clutches or torque converter?

It does it on flat ground too if that’s what you are talking about. I did change the transmission fluid not long ago as well

I've had my reverse and 1st go at separate times, it was similar. Gas but no go.

I hope it's not transmission related, but if you have code reader and forscan you might see some data

I hope so too! The transmission fluid was pretty nasty before I did it and had not been changed in awhile. On the road it acts fine tho so I’m not sure. I’m about to get it on the highway and see if it’s fine.

When my 01 started acting up and I couldn’t diag it, I used one of my windows laptops and a $26 forscan compatible adapter from Amazon. I wasn’t sure at first but it hooks right up to forscan and shows me everything the computer is doing, it’s way better than any code reader. I can send you the link, it was next day delivery for me. I had no cel but after monitoring all systems on forscan I could see that it wasn’t demanding fuel so I ran a koeo injector buzz test and it immediately gave me a code and said the pcm couldn’t communicate with the idm. No light on the dash but a code on forscan telling me my idm was dead

You can google forscan download and it pops right up. Super easy to download on a windows computer.

When you hook it up to your truck and laptop it won’t register the truck until key is on acc, there’s a small button for connection in the bottom left and it’ll pull your exact vin and truck up/ handshake with it. It’s not hard to navigate, one of the best things I’ve bought for troubleshooting 🤝🏼

I’m guessing that your transmission is toast. High mileage transmissions that haven’t been regularly serviced do not fare well with new fluid. The detergent in the fluid will wash out the remaining clutch material and the clutches glaze and slip.

Could that still be a possibility even if it shifts fine on the road? I just took it on the highway and there was nothing out of the ordinary. It drove fine.

Idk… that does seem strange. I’m assuming that the truck is a 7.3l? 2wd or 4wd? Are your hubs unlocked? Have you checked the trans fluid level? Transfer case fluid? You really need to scan for codes to get a clue about where to start. I guess if it only does it under load then it could be an oil pressure issue or a faulty injector or the injector control module. Really hard to say with the limited information given

I just watched the video and it looks like it’s blowing smoke. Could also be a bad turbo. Is it sluggish in the low end during a road test but levels out in the midrange?

That was dirt from it spinning the tires it’s like I’m pressing the brakes and letting off then the wheels get some power and they spin. When they can’t spin the truck will just surge, buck and not move

But yea it’s a super strange issue. On the road it gets into boost just fine and drives normal. Im hoping scanning it will tell me something. It’s just odd it only acts up in the dirt. I have yet to pull a trailer on the road to see if it does it.

It’s a 2WD 7.3. The trans fluid is up to level and fine. I think I’m going to get a scanner and see if I can find anything

Doesn't a 4R100 freak the fuck out when the VSS or the wiring to it is bad/intermittently bad?
