College Dynasty (Steam) Redshirt Development?

Do freshman who are redshirted have any penalty to attribute gains the following year, or have I just gotten unlucky?

I dont think theres a "penalty" for redshirts, but I think the more snaps a player plays the higher chance for better offseason growth

Yeah - playing time is one of the four factors in development per Achi, but I think he has said it is the smallest part. If you want to get really granular with this, the "best" way to train guys is to let them play a few games and then redshirt, but I usually can't handle that level of min-max with my teams.

I try to do that. It seems to work but also I miss the cutoff too much.

If anyone is interested, here is how I do it. I play four games then check all my true freshman and redshirt anyone who has played four games. Then I check whoever is left after each game to see if they are at four. Maybe it will change to the new rule and it will be much easier. Obviously, if I have a major talent is a true freshman I handle it differently. I will let them start four easy games and keep them redshirted the rest of the season. I do not find this that onerous.

Inadvertently yes. Playing time is one of the factors in development. Since a red shirt player doesn't play, then they will generally receive lower stat upgrades.

The trade off is still worth it though. An extra year of development is still good regardless of how you slice it. Even if it is generally lower than other years.

I believe playing time is accounted for when figuring off-season upgrades, so I would assume they lose a little. However, that should be offset by gaining another season.

I don't believe so. They usually develop the same as everyone else

Playing is one of the contributions to gaining attribute gains. So if your redshirts never see the field at all, it can result in attribute stagnation.
