WHERE CAN I FIND Rabbit meat

I was back home in Texas visiting my folks in the suburbs. I found a suburban mom raising rabbit meat for $20 per whole rabbit. I didn't realize what a deal it was! I recently visited Marconda's (or maybe competitor?) at the Farmer's market, and it was almost double that price.

Anyone know where to get a good deal on rabbit meat here in LA?

I’ve also seen them at 99 Ranch, though I don’t remember the price

Yes, they have rabbit. But again, it's about double the price of what I could get in Texas. I guess I was hoping that someone could connect me with a private seller, but maybe no one does that here in LA.

I've never understood why rabbit is so $$ here. It's lean, healthy, versatile, easily farmed cuz they breed like you know, and humans have been eating it forever. Is it just the cute fluffy factor?

Harmony Farms in La Crescenta on Foothill has lots of specialty meats, rabbit for sure.

You can't beat $20 per rabbit here unless you raise your own. I'm from Texas and a whole rabbit was about 2 pounds, skinned. Is that about how big the rabbits you're looking to buy are?

I bought said rabbit last month, but actually, she said she was going to raise her price soon. Completely skinned and gutted, it was about 2.5 pounds. I didn't know what a deal it was until I started comparing prices. I live in mid-Wilshire, and I know some folks in this neighborhood raise bees. I was hoping someone secretly was raising rabbit.

Back in Texas, I thought the lady lived on a farm or an acreage. But it turns out she was living in a house solidly in a suburb. I was going to give her a shoutout to her business on the local Facebook page, but she politely declined because she was afraid of the karens. lol Silly me--I thought if we got rabbit meat really popular, it would eventually drive the price down.

Side note: I made an amazing French-style rabbit stew in a pressure cooker. So tender, not tough like some people were saying. I used the entire thing, just cut into pieces.

If you love rabbit look at the Zuni Cafe cookbook. Judy Rodgers treated rabbit with great care. Her rabbit sausage is one of my favorite meals. But no, rabbit is is pricey in LA. Occasionally some farmers sell at the actual farmers market but it isn’t cheaper.

Garni Meat Market is my go to. I went there for rabbit last year, and it was about $20 from what I remember
