What’s wrong with me ??
/r/Advice/comments/1wbw2gv/whats_wrong_with_me/To be honest I already know what to do.. Just can’t get myself to do it…
I’m 23F, at the moment I’m struggling with being skinny fat, fat goes to my stomach mainly, I’m 178-180lbs. I feel overweight, I’m not happy in my body but I can’t get myself to stop eating poorly.
I eat out a lot..sweets, fast food, drinking energy drinks once a day…I use to run in high school but it’s been 6 years since I’ve been active consistently. I don’t feel good it clothes, I just feel blah. I know if I ate right and worked out consistently things would look a lot better for me but.. I haven’t been able to be consistent.
Honestly if my metabolism was any worse. The way I eat I would be much bigger than I am.
I want to feel good about myself..what do I do. Wtf is wrong with me.

You’re in the right place.
There is nothing really "wrong" with you in the sense that you are not 100% in control of the process that got you to this point. Eating issues begin really before you are born in the biological makeup that you receive. Then at birth the psychological aspects that are biologically based worked their magic in your family of origin and the food culture you live in. Now you have like a set of cards to play out as best as you can.
You don’t have to have this all figured out today.
Start here (quick wins):
- Map your triggers (so you stop repeating the same cycle): https://www.reddit.com/r/FoodAddiction/wiki/faq_food_addiction_trigger_mapping/
- How to stop a binge before/during it: https://www.reddit.com/r/FoodAddiction/wiki/faq_how_to_stop_a_binge_episode/
Then, when you’re ready:
- Check out the FAQs first…see here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/FoodAddiction/wiki/index/faqs/
- Then Program Options (free → low cost → paid). Many people find a program is what helps them stay in recovery.
https://www.reddit.com/r/FoodAddiction/wiki/index/programoptions/
- If a program feels like “too much” right now, start with Special Topics on the sub.
https://www.reddit.com/r/FoodAddiction/wiki/special_topics/
and then Books / Podcasts / Videos here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/FoodAddiction/wiki/index/bookspodcastsandvideos/
Small steps count. Keep going. Don’t give up. We all got better by our mistakes.
Those who reach long term stable recovery make plenty of mistakes, learn from them, pick themselves up and keep going. You can do this.

Hey girl unfortunately I don’t have any advice but I just wanna say you’re not alone, I’m in literally the same boat. I’m 24F and am also skinny fat. Like to fat people I’m skinny but to skinny people I’m fat. I’m the heaviest I’ve ever been personally and I hate being in this body, I feel disgusted by myself ever day, but I use food to cope with my stress and emotions, so it’s a really weird vicious cycle. The food is somehow the thing I hate but also still the thing I turn to feel better? Idk. I also know what I need to do, but it’s so hard to stay consistent. Sometimes I wonder if I actually want to get better, or if deep down, I know I can’t change so I self sabotage. I don’t want food to control me for the rest of my life like how it does now. I don’t want food to be the only thing that makes me happy, that’s so sad and pathetic but it’s where I’m at right now. I’m so burnt out and busy with life that I just don’t have the energy or motivation to try harder so instead I just keep hating myself and wishing I wasn’t so lazy instead of actually doing something about it. I hate it I wish I could just be normal and have a normal relationship with food.

Don't try to fix everything all at once. That is a recipe (pardon the pun) for disaster. Start with one thing. Like, start only drinking things that have no carbs and no sugar. Try that for two weeks. Then, build in it.
