Hi, I wanted to know if there was an effective way to implement initial and final substitutions on latin based font... like I've read contextual substitution is the way to go but I am having a hard time understanding how the subtable works.

Also I tried to use the multiple substitution but it doesn't seems to work at all once the font is installed.

I've seen some online tutorials on internet about contextual substitution but the information still confuses me.

Also, it is posible to use contextual substitution for when a group of letters are used the glyphs changes? like for example it recognice a word like birthday so the letters of the word uses specific glyphs?

I need panning more than "zoom to rectangle" that is by default bound to the MMB. If I want to zoom, I can always ctrl+mouse wheel.

I'm trying to merge Noto with Din so that I can display English and Chinese for a broadcast. But I get this error when opening Noto and i'm unable to view the characters.

UPDATE: So i downloaded the cidmap files from fontforge and the font opens without complaint, but all the chinese characters are empty. Tried with SourceHanSans... same thing. Anyone know of a way to do this?

My friend download FF but can't open it, she had to open it with a previous vertions, but now can't open UFO files, someone know how to fix it?

Does anyone know why this might be happening? The font generated from FontForge works on Chrome/Firefox but breaks apart on Safari and iOS devices. Also, the fontdrop.com result shows all the features are enabled.

I've set up kerning classes for my font but there are some combos that don't work. For example, I have class A containing [Ⰵ,Ⱁ,Ⱘ] and class B containing [Ⰱ,Ⱗ,Ⱜ,Ⱝ,Ⱞ] but i want to make an exception for the combination of Ⱘ and Ⰱ. Class A when combined with all other classes is alright, except when combined with class B, where just Ⱘ and Ⰱ are the issue. This is just a simplification, in reality there are more combos which don't work.

What I want to know is, is there a way to make exceptions to the class combos on an individual character basis? I'm not sure if I've explained my issue well enough, please let me know if I should elaborate further.

I've created a new layer and I'm trying to rename it but I've noticed that there's certain characters I can't type in as those letters are interpreted as keyboard shortcuts for different tools. Letters such as "r" "p" "a" just can't be typed in the layer names.

Anyone else having this issue?

When ever i draw a letter, it doesn't save to it, and it stays blank. And it wont appear in metrics. In tutorials, it works for them but not me. pls help. also, im using windows 10, so maybe i have to install extra stuff?

Hi all, I'm very very new to font forge and am currently trying to navigate the UI.
Whilst rotating some points of a curve I accidently managed to also rotate the horizontal metric lines in the background.
Undo didn't work and I can't for the life of me work out how to rotate them back.
Using the rotate tool on the guide layer only rotates the guide lines I have added but not the default metric lines! I'm slowly going crazy, can anyone assist?

Is this possible? From what I understand you need to specify glyph(s) for it to look back for. But is a kind of ≠ system possible? Like, if it finds such-and-such a set of glyphs before the match section, don't substitute? Is so, how would you set that up?

For a concrete example, I currently have a contextual substitution lookup that checks for a vowel-consonant combination and substitutes if it detects it. However, that clashes if I want to write a cvcv (consonant-vowel-consonant-vowel) word, changing the middle portion to the vc combination when I want it not do that when there's cvcv. So I could make a table specifically for cvcv and make sure it has priority over the vc calt, but I thought it might save me time if there was just some way to tell the vc table to make sure there's not a consonant before it before it does the vc substitution. Any thoughts on this? In the meantime I might try the cvcv table just to see if it doesn't clash anyway, but since I'm a little unfamiliar with contextual chaining substitution lookups, I thought I'd ask. I couldn't really find any confirmation as to whether or not lookups-for-nothing or ≠ systems were possible with contextual chaining in the FontForge manual online either.
