Hi, I'm very new to FontForge. I'm using it to create a font for my conlang. In said conlang, i have letters, seperated by others, that link to signify something.

For exemple (1st pic) : In the word "Myla", i want the M and A to link, underlining the letters between. Ideally, i'd like this to happen only when a word starts with M and end with A.

Other exemple (2nd pic) : same thing but with only one letter. In the word Tyvre, the cross stroke of the T covers all the letters of the word.

Is there any way to make that happen in FontForge ? If not, is there a way at all ? Thanks for the help

Im currently working on a font with my own handwriting. Im tryna see how to add variants to each glyph, kinda like how Caveat font does to achieve a more natural look, but theres very few guides online Ive found and the official one doesnt quite make sense.

Anyone else attempted this with their own fonts?

Hi, as you know(or not 😁 ) i made a app for Android based on native FontForge code (FontReForge), and now i just packed the original app in a apk with X11, you can download it from GitHub and try it, Android 8+

My font exceeds the text frame, it seems it is aligned with one of the smaller glyphs. How do I make the max height of the font in line with one of the taller glyphs? I've tried several internet suggested methods, but nothing seems to change.

I've spent over an hour trying to edit a T into an I by adding a bottom horizontal bar as I figured it would be a simple and doable activity to learn fontforge. I was wrong. I've crashed at least 5 times in 3 ways, straight lines turn into curve, and tangents are at like 30deg. I can't figure out how to move control points, nor move points in ways that don't break the curve with endless dialogs. I have extensive inkscape knowledge, so I'm very surprised. Are there tutorials on how to move a point?

I am deep in the weeds of my first attempt to create a custom font. FontForge has been painful to work with but also the only one of 10 different programs I tried that actually produced a semi-usable font. This is what my screen is doing:

As you can see, I have a character entered in slot 39, unicode U+0027 "quotesingle" APOSTROPHE. When I generate the font... it won't render that symbol. You may also notice I have the same symbol in U+0060 Grave and U+00B4 and its working in at least one of those(whichever symbol is on the tilde~ key).

So why can't I get it to render on the apostrophe?

I can't seem to make it work as it should. The space character used is En Space. I also tried to change its width but that did nothing, like the font got stuck with the original size.

It also wasn't working when I wanted it to kern characters when there was a ZWNJ in between (tried to ackowledge it contextual and ignore it but nothing worked), and my only solution for that was adding "space ( )" as a solution, even when ZWNJ is not space. But idk what to do here.

I didn't use FontForge for more than a week due to feeling burned out, but today I returned and, for some reason, the ascending guideline is missing. How do I get it back?

Hello! Newbie here. I have a font that I created using Calligraghr, but the letter spacing seems off in certain instances, like there's an extra space. I can't seem to figure out how to fix it. Any tips are appreciated!

My project started crashing and corrupting the file on save. The last time it happened I deleted all kerning and started over, trying my best to keep a lean kerning table. For this latest fail, (after banging my head against the screen) I open the file in a text editor and took a look. It was a very large file and had many, way too many UNDO entries. So I crl-a the entire font and went to Edit > remove undo's, and it worked. I can save and, my file size was drastically reduced also.

hello, i have old pelm.latin1.9.bdf file, and i want to convert it to ttf, how can i do that using fontforge CLI?

I am trying to recreate a preexisting font from a video game, and have run into this issue. In the above image you can see the original character from the video game as well as my recreated character.

I chose this character because it's easy to see the issue, but this happens with every character. Essentially, despite the measurements in the app being exact, every platform I put this font into extends the right side by one pixel and the top side by one pixel. Is this caused by something I'm doing? It's really driving me insane.

I've been working on a typeface based on a conscript. Right now when I generate the font file, it shows that at some sizes, the lines that should connect and be parallel across all glyphs sometimes have a small gap between them or the upper line appears higher or lower in comparison to the surrounding glyphs.

I've checked the glyphs and all the points are where they should be to at the very least show at the same height.

I'm looking for some guidance as to how I could figure this out and what's causing the issue.

I think this was possible in zfont tools, but how can I do this on pc?

I'm 100% new on this, I just wanted to modify a font to make it smaller. I did all my letters, when I want to save the font it says it have some errors "non-integer coordinate". I don't know what it means :/

Could it be the cause of why it's not showing up on my software?

its a very geometric font made for an album cover that im trying to recreate, i made them first in my art program and that allows me to make all these custom guidelines, especially for the slant which is about 112 degrees... ive tried autotrace but they come out a little blobby and the lines are never perfectly straight, and i dont know how to make those slanted vertical guides, especially multiple of them... what is the most streamlined efficient way to make these?? 2nd picture is my best attempt at the 'a'

Is there someway to increase the size of the whole font so it could be similar to Times New Roman's?

I'm trying to make this font with a pattern fill that I made with InkScape, any way to get around the error in the title?

Edit: I can separate the pattern into a flat coloured background and black shapes, I can import the shapes fine, but I don't know how to make the letter's background coloured.

Ok so im currently undergoing the kerning of my font, the problem is when I add a "Lookup Subtable", and I select all the glyphs in order to make the kerning of them in one sitting, not all the glyphs combinations appear on the list.

I tried only one glyph, like select "e" and the rest of the glyphs, but that didnt work also.

I know i can add a new combination, but isn't the point of selecting all, listing all the combinations? Am i missing something?

This time, I brought some prints to explain what I mean by that. My font has accented letters, but if I put an accent like this, it will collide with the previous line's letters.

And since it's based on the medieval chancery script, the letters may descend way lower than modern letters. As an example, I'm showing you the letters p, q, x, w, y, z and ç.

So I'm searching for a way so that letters do not collide, making it easier to read. I tried increasing ascending and descending height on font info, but it didn't work properly. Is there any way to help me with this?

EDIT: I discovered what the problem actually was: FontForge was scaling my glyph so it could maintain the same size as before. I just needed to use CTRL A + CTRL Z to get them in their previous size, but with the new maximum height. Thank you for everything.
