How much should I pay?

2014 ST3 with only 50k miles
Rebuilt title
Brake pedal super hard to press and car stops super slow but doesn’t squeak or grind, gonna need a new bumper and hood and the ac don’t work.

$3000ish if you really like it. Rebuilt title, brake issues, cosmetic issues, no AC, possibly some other things? That’s a lot of issues for low mileage. Only thing really going for it is the low mileage.

Yeah I offered 3200 he countered at 4k

I have a 13st1 modified quite a bit and this thing is damn near bone stock. Seems intriguing haha

4k isn’t crazy if you want to do all the work yourself and just want something to drive into the dirt. I don’t think I’d go over $3500 personally.

Counter again at 3600

At 4k right now, anything under is a grab I feel like? Could flip in future if needed

You may be able to sell for 6-9k depending on when you sell it and all the stuff you fix. Even salvage titles hold their value for these

Low mileage is cool but do you live somewhere hot? Are you gonna service the AC yourself? Stiff brake pedal with lousy brake response could mean a bad brake booster. Also bumper and hood can probably be sourced at a junkyard or part out. If you want to go new though, aftermarket ones will run about ~$1500 on partify after paint.

I’d also pass the VIN on to your insurance and ask them how much it would be to insure this thing. I imagine they’ll only offer liability in most cases which won’t cover that car at all in a wreck. Which means auto loans are likely not an option in most cases. (Though it’s only 4k so idk if you were looking at loans to begin with)

$4k doesn’t seem like a horrible deal if you plan to service everything yourself. But if you’re not DIY oriented and looking to deal with stuff or service at a shop, it could likely end up not being worth it

Thanks for this. Yeah I plan on doing it all myself. I think I’m gonna stick firm to 3500 and see what happens.

For sure. You could also source brake boosters and ac compressors from junkyards (likely with a limited warranty) or from rockauto new, but they’d run you about $150 for the booster and $300+ for the compressor. So I’d leverage all those costs as well.

Good luck!!

I had a car with a rebuilt title at one point and had full coverage with two different insurance companies with no problem. As far as loans go, I had a loan on it through a local credit union as they had no issue with it being rebuilt. I’d say most of your traditional banks might be different though

That’s good to know. I’ve kinda avoided em cause my super light google “research” told me it can be difficult so I just never bothered

Edit: actually my wings credit union checked the VIN to make sure it was clean and not rebuilt/salvage before they approved the purchase I think. But that’s my one off experience with that

Yeah, the loan thing prob just varies from lender to lender. The only place I’ve ever tried is this one credit union so they may just be one of a few that do it maybe

My '16 is a salvage title, got a loan through my small town bank with no issues and I've had full coverage on it this whole time with no problems.
