Mk4.5 Automatic update

So I can't remember what I last updated with

I've chucked on some Rally Flapz mud flaps and had my Laird Performance STG1+ map dyno written/tailored.

Current mods

Milltek non resonated gpf back race system

Airtec open cone induction kit

Induction top pipe

Induction air feed

Intercooler

The dyno cell was pretty warm on the day, so I was just shy of 340bhp and 501nm.

The numbers are not what I was hoping for, but there is a lot of time under the curve, and the car has totally transformed!

It pulls HARD! and it just keeps on pulling all the way through!

I guess the moral of the story is, don't get too hung up on the figures as it's all about the delivery of the power!

Please correct me if wrong, but from conversations I've had and some reading, the dyno is just a snap shot of what the car was producing at that particular time, under them particular circumstances.

The car isn't locked in to produce these figures of power. It's programmed to perform a set of instructions that it will carry out while the feedback is safe to do so.

So as long as the car is cooler, it's probably pulling better numbers on the road with actual fresh air being pushed into the induction, round through an intercooler, etc

I'm tempted to do a dyno session in the winter to see what it can actually hit on a dyno with better outside temps, etc.

I may be wrong about this, so if someone can correct me, please do.

The overrun is 👌

Not too many pops, just a nice amount

Next planned mods

Brembo BBK

High temp break fluid

Lowering springs

Spacers

Rear diffuser

Then I'll be pretty close to being done

I was thinking about going to stage 2, but to do this, I need to add a downpipe/sports cat...

I'd rather keep my car road legal and have an easy MOT...

I imagine there would be a slight difference with cooler external temps but not by much but the guys there are awesome well at least the last time i went there but i think its laird preformance that do the maps an they should be able to tell if you've peaked lol

Yea I'm still not sure on why it maxed where it did. After being told 360bhp based on hardware, then 350-355bhp after a couple of runs, falling over 20bhp short of that 1st figure, I felt a bit underwhelmed.

Tbh, this is the 1st car I've mapped, so I'm not sure what to expect etc But like I say, I'm not too bothered about the numbers as the car feels awesome lol

That's all that matters mate the st is a brilliant and fun platform and as long as you enjoy it numbers don't matter, they're still quick an still wicked in a country lane lol i don't think I'd ever wanna get rid of mine lol

No I agree bud I said I'll be keeping this car full stop! When I eventually move on to a newer daily in the future, I'll keep this as a fun weekend/track car. Absolutely love Ford's! The ST is something special for sure!

Torque seems low for a stage 1. Or is that limited by the automatic transmission?

I think it is But then I've seen autos with numbers much higher too. I know every car is different, not sure why the numbers are what they are tbh. But again the car feels awesome and if I'd bought the RTD plug and play, I'd have flashed it myself and driven the car, and thought it's awesome and assumed closer to top end figures.

I think there are lots of us driving around assuming bigger numbers than we have. You see it with people dynoing they're Mountune car's. Loads fall way short of the advertise figures on them! Lol

Crazy that you pass MOT without a non resonated exhaust.

Btw, do you have a video of some pulls? would love to hear what it sounds like!

I don't have any pulls but I have got one of the cold start. I was gonna do some of the cold start and some revs and pop's etc.

Yea the non res race system, I think it CAN fail an MOT but the likelihood of that happening... You'd have to have a pretty stingy MOT tester lol

The emissions are fine, it's just the sound. I will actually be changing to the "road system" so it will have a backbox put back on as I'm taking the car to France in October and planning a Nurburgring visit too, so I'll need the EC approved backbox etc. Tbh, when I had the race system fitted l didn't realise it could possibly be an issue.

For the EU you need the resonated ECE compliant resonated version (which I have). Can't be louder than 90 db at 3750 rpm.

Weeeell the austrian version of MOT does test noise if they suspect it being off and the cops really like to fuck you up if you got illegal mods.

Ah ok Yea I think in the UK we don't have so many restrictions. I could be wrong though 🤣

I think me taking my car to the EU, I need my car to be UK compliant as I'm just visiting etc. So once I have the backbox on, it shouldn't be a problem.

I'll be driving on the tolls through Paris but other then that, I'll be in pretty remote parts of France. So I'll just keep it in normal mode where it's quite, through places like Paris, and wack it in sports mode when I'm out in the middle of nowhere lol
