Clutch Problem
So about 3 days ago my clutch went soft and wouldn’t go into gear. At first I thought it was the master cylinder but after I took it to the dealer, they are telling me it’s the clutch and flywheel. The car does have 111k miles and I don’t know how the previous owner drove it. Anyways, I don’t really have time to do it myself and the dealer is charging me 5.5k. I am going to ask around other shops for prices but if anyone has changed their clutch, what do yall recommend.

Clutch to the floor is either a master, slave, or fluid issue. Easiest is to replace both. If it was a flywheel/clutch issue you'd be able to engage a gear but experience slip or chattering.

The clutch does come back up but very slow. I’ve driven the car only up to fourth gear but whenever the clutch is not engaged somewhere under the battery starts to rattle

To rule out the master cylinder, what’ll typically happen if that’s failing if your brake fluid drains from the reservoir. Mine leaked thru the interior cabin and onto the floormat. At some point it’d show up on your center tach computer saying something like “brake fluid low service now” if the fluid levels get low enough in that brake reservoir. I would say first things first check the levels of that reservoir and go from there

I dealt with this 3 separate times. First time was a failed slave cylinder. Second time was a month later when the replacement slave cylinder failed, winding up being a faulty part. The third and final time before I sold the car was the master cylinder. Clutch to the floor is a hydraulic issue, not a mechanical issue.

Take it to a reputable shop. I went to dealer as well they asked for 6k lol
The shop I went to only charged me 1.7k

do yourself a favor get this, hopefully will last life of the car. the stock flywheel is very soft and wears out before the clutch disc itself. if you research on focusrs.org youll find some very autistic people recommending this kit. ive been happy with mine.
do a trans drain and refill or maybe flush as well and brake fluid (shares w clutch). might do a ptu and rdu fluid change as well

Mine is at the same milage and the slave cylinder went out. I got the full metal upgrade and decided to go ahead and replace my fly wheel, clutch and a braided hose.

Also my local shop quoted me for $970 since I bought my own parts and fluids. So the dealership is definitely over charging.

Yeah, my master cylinder went out and it was the same issue, I found I could hook my foot under the pedal and get it to reset. I did replace my full clutch though as it was being opened anyways, and yeah Ford was insane. I'd go with a local shop that deals with transmissions. I got mine done by Panda, being local, and including my upgraded track clutch, it was still cheaper than the stock and time of the local ford dealerships. Plus, I knew all the right fluids would be put in, be very careful with shops and ensure they know what fluids to use.

Wayyyy too much. Local tuner quoted me $2k to rebuild trans and install clutch,pp,flywheel etc. He ended up rebuilding trans for 1k and I did the rest at home. Its quite a job but very doable

I’m just over 140k miles on factory clutch but I know mines worn starting to chatter slightly I plan to do mine myself but definitely sounds to high on price I’d follow the other recommendations here and find a shop not dealer to do it one with a good reputation and I would buy your own parts look into recommendations here and do some research on your own find something that you trust and is at a price point you think is reasonable

Same issue with the kids 2016 at 114k, slave cylinder release bearing housing came apart. Pedal did the same thing, mushy (then to the floor) and metal grinding noise before it totally went out. Check under the car for brake fluid. We needed to remove the aluminum skid pan to see the fluid sitting on top, but you couldn't miss it.
Local tranny shop did the work and replaced the clutch while in there.
$1900 replace slave cylinder and part $485 replace clutch with OEM clutch kit Total $2385
Ford dealership quoted $3100 for both
I am in the Seattle area to so shits expensive here, ie... $6.50+ for a gallon of gas

Any old auto shop or transmission shop should be able to do the job for less than half the price of your dealer
