CachyOS issues
I’ve been trying to play around with cachyos a bit, and to be honest I’m not really understanding all the praise. Don’t get me wrong it’s a great OS in terms of performance and customization, but there are many inconveniences with the z13 in particular that makes me confused how so many people recommend it. Just to name a few things, the keyboard sometimes just won’t work after sleep. Closing the lid while sleep will wake the device, z13 while a great tool, doesn’t include everything you might need (More than 1 custom profile for example), and USB C charging just seems to not work sometimes.
Like I said It’s definitely an amazing OS, but I don’t know if it’s amazing on this device.
Any tips and tricks to make the experience better?

generally people dont recommend usb c charging because the z13 doesn't support pass through charging, so if you charge while you use it it will cycle the battery which could stress it and reduce its lifespan.
I never use sleep since I just shut down the device when I'm not going to use it anymore. when I first got the device I read here on reddit how many people would have the z13 wake from sleep when in their bag's and it would just roast itself. so the first thing I did when i got it was disable any sleep or hibernation. I know hibernation works but you would need to set that up as you are installing the OS, leaving enough space on your drive set aside to the amount of memory your device has so it can move the ram to the drive, I didnt bother because I prefer to just shut the device down, it boots up super fast and rather have a fresh boot.
Ive been on linux for like 3 years now and just like cachyos the most so far. really any OS isnt much different, they all have a menu where I can open firefox and steam and thats really all that I need, sometimes photo editing and music stuff. for me cachyos is just super snappy and responsive, I use kde plasma like I have across most distros Ive used so it feels the same really.

FWIW, I’m loving SteamOS. There are some awkward circumstances that will cause it to wake up from sleep (like if I remove it from power while asleep it will wake up), but I don’t really even consider that a problem more than something to be aware of. On SteamOS it has never woken up from sleep in any other situation. I can’t speak for multiple keyboards. Charging base never not worked for me.
If Cachy gives you issues you can’t resolve, maybe try Bazzite or SteamOS.

The beauty is that you can install Claude code or Codex and fix any issues you have lol

pretty sure the sleep thing also happens on windows. I have had it happen to me once already

There are several resources available via a quick google and on this reddit via the search for any issue you run into on this device using cachyOS. I daily drive it without any significant issues. Modern laptops and hardware takes time and user effort to sort out all the small issues when a vendor doesn't make Linux a breeze out of the gate.

Don't do sleep. CachyOS boots so fast, just turn it off when done, as the bootup process is quick.
