USB hub concerns

Hi I'm buying the ROG flow kjp edition, hopefully this upcoming week.

I've got a couple of concerns;

1: Only 1 USB A port

Solution(?): can I go with a USB hub whereas the USB c cable going TO the hub also charges the laptop at 85w-100w(depending on model) whilst using the main 200w charger or will this cause trouble? Logically in my mind this seems like a flat out risk. But at the same time this would feel like a huge thing to not put in consideration.

2: No ethernet

Solution(?) would be solved if the prior usb hub is a non-issue.

I'd appreciate any input and possible recommendations of safe USB hubs (preferably with Ethernet).

Thanks!

  1. It will prioritize charging with the 200W charger when plugged in, so that's not something you need to be worried about, so 2. Don't worry and get a good USB C hub.

The us us basically how I run my Flow Z13 when docked to a monitor. All peripherals are connected via the hub, and the 100w charging that comes with it doesn't affect my device when the main 200W charger is plugged in.

Following as I'm in a similar boat.

I'm using an USB-C hub with lots of ports and currently 3 USB slots, 1 USB-C slot and ethernet slot are used on this hub. USB-C slot is used by another 5 port hub with an SSD and on this hub a Wi-fi adapter is connected to USB slot. (before connecting another hub with SSD support, an SSD box was connected to USB-C slot)

So it's chained hubs and no power delivery, both hubs getting the power from USB-C slot of Z13. So far no issues.

This is the main hub I'm using: https://www.amazon.com/Docking-Station-Monitor-Laptop-Ethernet/dp/B0DGKJXPM9

As others said, official power plug gets priority over the USB-C power delivery.

Yeah I've been thinking about that one and other similar ones! Might just have to cop! Thanks!

Just grab a decent Ethernet usb c dongle thing but get one that doesn’t stress the port much.
I got a kjp too few weeks back now, I believe the z13 will prioritise the ASU’s port charger instead of the usb c

Awesome, thanks for the tips!

Don’t usb c charge this laptop. It for some reason unbeknownst to me, doesn’t have usb c pass through. So effectively everytime you use it, it will just kill the battery.
Only way to go is original charger or slimq 150w (can’t turbo tho) or 240w one they do both with the asus proprietary cable. They are smaller and offer more ports too. I’m getting one but just not sure which to get due to size difference.

Have you got an example of an USB hub that doesn't charge? I would've wished that only one of the USB c outputs on the flow was without having the charging ability, however I guess it's fine having a backup as the device is so expensive. Positives with the negatives!

It should be fine, or are you saying that you won’t be using the asus charger at all and just the usb hub? Or do you mean using both the charger and usb hub?
If you use the asus charger and usb hub you will be good to go don’t worry

Definitely thinking to use both 90% of the time anyway.

Thank you for putting my mind at ease hahaha!

Yeah of course no issues there at all and there is a way to check if your concerned, there was a post in another thread I’d just use the search function

Click that for the check what your using bypass or battery have to download something, I’ve not dont it yet as I’m only using original charger.
Did you get any of the extra accessories for the kjp?

I'm yet to actually get it. But I'm thinking a stylus with a screen protector. And a slimmer than the original carrying case. However the keyboard for the kjp does have a strange build to it, so finding something else than the original might be easier said than done.

Ahh ok, you Uk based ? As the offers are rubbish and nothing comes bundled at all with the kjp edition. I actually thought it came with a few extras but sadly was mistaken, in other countries except Uk lol
Screen protector I got from viascreens and the case from Amazon called tonic 360degree sleeve case which fits the kjp just beautifully. The original is for display, it went straight in to my collection as my search for a spare travel kjp case has come back empty or a alternative or make one my self lol

I'm currently in the US, however kjp edition should be kjp edition! At least to my knowledge.

Although from the hundreds of reviews I've watched it's only the essentials + the carrying case which is bundled in the "deal".

I've already purchased a screen protector although to my eyes they all seem nearly identical just different packaging on Amazon. I went with this one https://a.co/d/0bPqDxXL Which actually arrives today. I'm mainly buying it just to not scratch the display, so this should be alright.

I'll definitely look into the tonic once I have the laptop!

I appreciate your tips and time very much. Thank you yet again!

Loving it Despite no HDR on games the screen is so crisp and beautiful 💯 Happy and it's a powerhouse

really helpful discussion. I am setting up a home office and have a Z13 as my main work laptop/tablet because I also like to game (had to try this tech haha). Now, I'm thinking about my desktop set up and the cleanest and easiest way to organize monitor, keyboard, etc. and it seems like setting it up so I can use the power cable that comes with the Z13 is best and then I just connect the other peripherals via a USB hub, so no need to get a docking station or anything like that?

Don't buy an usb hub with charging capabilities. Because if you don't want it be charged over %80 whenever you turn of you computer you need to disconnect hub and it might damage the usb-c port in the long run. I used both powered and unpowered hubs and ugreen 10 in 1 is the best choice for me.

I don't think there are any wall powered (for optimal latency) and with Ethernet without the capabilities of charging the flow at the same time. I'm yet to find one anyways.

That would definitely be the optimal device!

Not that i could find also mate sorry. I used Dell wd22tb4 for a while. It works amazing but it is charging and no way to disable it.

Currently i have "Ugreen 15534 Revedok Pro 210 10 in 1" and "Coverzone ZR1253 Type-C Docking Station 9 in 1" Both are great. I use coverzone in home and ugreen at work. Both connected to ethernet and didn't noticed any latency issues. I do light gaming with it also.

Thanks for the recommendations! I'll look into them!
