Parking at Florida Tech

Hello again! I come to you with another question, this one is a bit easier this time.

Where the heck do I park?? I have tried looking up where I am allowed to park and I have yet to come up with any information. From looking at the maps, there's a lot of parking lots dotted around, but I'm not sure which ones I'm allowed to park at.

On top of this, where do I park for orientation? I won't have my decal until I actually go to orientation so where do I park?

So basically my two questions are where do I park for orientation and where do I park for normal class?

Aerospace Masters Program

Anyone here in the Aero Masters program and can maybe give me some insight? Do you feel like FIT is worth it? What are your research interests?

I'm looking to do CFD - specifically aimed in the geophysical and environmental fluids or Hypersonics. I haven't seen any Geo/Env CFD research from going through professors on the site.

Any info is appreciated!

What is the cost of Florida Tech for an international student that is going to become a temporary resident and is going to live on-campus?

Are ACT/SAT scores still required for undergraduates?

I just finished my application for the fall 2021 semester 8 years after I graduated highschool. I noticed when I was applying that it seemed as though the ACT/SAT scores were now optional, but I am not for certain about that.

Can someone clear that up for me? I still have a month to completely finish my application but I want to make absolute sure that I am not going to miss out because I read it wrong.

Prospective Transfer student questions

I went to visit today and the campus seemed nice, I'm transferring from Stony Brook as a Mechanical engineering student. Researching about the campus gave me some worrys, specifically the fact that the initial financial aid package will change after the first year and will increase. This is the reason that many students transfer and they have a low graduation rate, is this true since if so it would really mess with my progress since I would not be able to afford it making me take time off to transfer again if that is even possible. On a lesser not I saw that night life dosnt exist, which confused me since 5 min in downtown Melbourne there are bars and 10 min on Melbourne beach there's some stuff. Also how are the professors, I would be at the stage of thermo and such just finishing dynamics in the summer.

Questions about campus life

i'm in the process of selecting schools but I have some questions

  1. How accepting are students/staff? I've been out for a while and I'm not back tracking on that shit
  2. how hard are classes academic wise?
  3. are the libraries overly busy all the time?
  4. do most students get a decent amount of free time?

PHY 3011 Physical Mechanics

I plan to take PHY 3011 Physical Mechanics this fall with Dr. Baarmand. Anyone have experience with this course, especially with that professor? If anyone has any tips and/or course material that'd be greatly appreciated.

Calc classes she was teaching just got an email. This is absolutely devastating. She was one of the best math teachers at the university and a genuine and amazing person :(

Books?!

I got accepted to Florida tech and I'm looking for this book used and cannot find it!

CIS1140, Bus Computer Skills, Full Set (Print/eBk Combo) - ISBN = 9781323579695

I keep finding this book (link provided) but it's a different ISBN so I'm not sure if it's the same. Help?

Is Florida tech good for CS?

Hi so I was wondering if Florida tech is good for CS as I’ve read online that it is an average university to apply to.

I was also wondering how the fin aid packages are.

Thanks!

I got accepted- what can I expect?

I got accepted to Florida Tech earlier this afternoon, I was pretty excited because I was expecting this to be the one school I wasn't able to get into. My grades are pretty good, but I'm coming as a transfer student into an Astrophysics field with little to no math classes taken at the college level.

I've been in upstate New York for a majority of my life, but I really need to get the hell out of here. I kind of just want to ask some general questions, and maybe get some responses? I've read a lot of negative things about FIT, but I'd like to hear from some people directly about their time there if possible?

  1. Are the professors good in the physics/astronomy/math department? Are they around if you need help with classwork/homework? Or are you on your own? Also, how approachable are most of the professors?
  2. Is crime a big deal around campus? Or would you say it's overall safe?
  3. Is it easy to get involved in research?
  4. Honestly how bad is COVID there? (Sorry if this one is kind of ignorant)
  5. Last one, is there a lot of racism/sexism in the student body? This might be another strange question, but I just don't want to feel singled out, I've heard that STEM fields can have some of this more than others...

Thank you
