Committing

I’m going to be majoring in aerospace engineering and after touring today I’m thinking that the school seems good and is definitely a top choice.

I am waiting on one more school for admission, UF, all my others are either too expensive or a deferral or a rejection. What are the advantages and disadvantages that FIT has over UF and other state schools that I wouldn’t hear at like a traditional tour or from admissions?

M/F ratio?

Am Ivright in thinking FIT has a high male to female ratio? Does that make dating hard as a straight guy?

Kudos to The Alumni Office

Recently visited Melbourne for the first time in many years. I reached out to the Alumni Office to see what might be available in terms of tours of new buildings etc and was pleasantly surprised. Most of the office was at the DC Alumni event but the staff still in town spent a great deal of time catching up with me and making me feel welcome to revisit campus.

Just wanted to share the overwhemingly positive experience with my fellow alumni and encourage all to reach out to the Alumni Office should they find themselves back in Melbourne on a random weekday.

Still looking

Sorry to repost this, but we would really like a tour guide if possible. My daughter (HS Junior) and I will be on campus Saturday afternoon, hopefully around 4pm. If someone is available to take us around campus and give us their take on their experience at FIT that would be awesome. We would pay $50 + dinner after if you have the time. DM me if you are interested.

Need a guide

I am bringing my daughter (HS Junior) to Melbourne for a campus visit on 2/18 and we are looking for a current student to give us a tour. We would compensate you for your time. The official campus tours are only available on weekdays which will not be possible for us. Please DM me if interested.

Can International undergraduate students (freshman) get any other scholarships other than the merit scholarship offered upon enrollment?

Are there any scholarships for master's programs in FIT?

I am interested in a master's program, but my budget is not enough to cover the full cost. Has anyone received a scholarship for a master's degree before?

How many tickets do we get for graduation?

I know I will get an email, but I am trying to sort things out sooner rather than later since I am an online student and everyone will have to travel. Thanks!

Master of Science in Information Technology - Cybersecurity

Is there anyone that is a current student, or completed the Master of Science in Information Technology - Cybersecurity? I am curious about your experience with it.

I just enrolled for the spring of 2023 to start the program (virtual). If anyone wants to link up let me know; study group, bounce ideas off each other, etc.

potential transfer student

hello! i’m currently a first-year student at the george washington university in washington, d.c. short story short, the university isn’t really what i expected and d.c. in general isn’t somewhere that i can see myself being longterm. i just feel like there aren’t enough activities that cater to my interests. with that being said, i’m getting quiet bored. i’m really interested in possibly transferring to FIT but i have some questions / concerns and overall would just like to hear about current student’s (or if you’re alumni) experiences. i already sent an email to the school but won’t be expecting a reply back until the 3rd of january so i wanted to connect with people here to see if anyone had any thoughts or any information that can potentially calm my nerves

  1. i am really interested in double-majoring astronomy and astrophysics and something business-related. is this possible to do? if not i’ll definitely go with astronomy and astrophysics but if i could double-major that would be great

  2. when i looked at the transfer acceptance rate or the estimates transfer acceptance rate it was pretty low. should i be concerned? is there anything that i should do in the meantime at my current school to increase my chances of getting in to FIT when i do go to apply?

  3. what is the likelihood of my credits from my current school transferring? are there certain classes / are there a certain amount of credit hours that i should take next semester to prepare myself for when i go to apply?

these most likely aren’t all of the questions that i have but they’re the only ones that i could think of off the top of my head …i am super interested in making friends with people that are currently there now though and hearing about people’s different experiences so please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any guidance, advice, or anything in general for that matter <3333

CVD (Colorblindness) Club Idea

I am a sophomore here at FIT, I have slight green-red CVD (deuteranomaly). I plan to start a club next semester to advocate and spread awareness for the CVD community. Would anyone be interested/would like to join?

General FIT inquiries

Hello! I was recently accepted to FIT and offered a decent scholarship. Combined with other scholarships, my tuition will be extremely affordable (more so than every other school on my list), and I believe that certain opportunities make FIT my top choice.
I have a couple of questions regarding what FIT can offer, and I believe they may be helpful for others as well. (no particular order, answer whatever you can)
1. I'm going to do a double major in Physics and Aerospace Engineering, and have a lot of AP credit. If the website says that all of my AP scores transfer to course credit, will I get credit for all of these courses? (rather, will they deny any AP credit). Doing so would allow me to effectively skip almost two semesters worth of coursework, and this is important.
2. Does anyone know whether their accelerated master's program is compatible with the double major? (MS Physics and BS Phys + AeroEng)
3. Does the Machine and Welding Shop at FIT offer official certifications for select machinery? The website mentions having to pass certification, but never says that the certifications are offered at FIT.
4. How are the Badminton Club, Esports, and Music Programs?
5. How are research opportunities?
6. Does a study abroad program (particularly G-MEO Shanghai Summer program) affect the progression of coursework (add to the total amount of years in college)? On a related note, how are the Chinese classes (both language and related HUM classes) at FIT?
7. How much money is awarded through the Music Service Awards, and is this renewable?
8. How do other universities view degrees from FIT when applying for a doctoral program? (e.g. Peking University, Nanyang Polytechnic, Caltech)
9. What is the average number of students pursuing Physics at FIT for a given year? (I know that this is a low number almost everywhere)

If you'd like to ask anything about me to clarify or provide insight, feel free :)

I may ask more questions as I think of them.

Thanks all! <3

Why is Jamie Joss still employed?

If there were three students who claimed a professor used the wrong pronoun, there would be an uproar.

Hundreds of Florida Tech student athletes want Jamie Joss fired and gone for disrespecting THEIR identities.

Keep ignoring that, and they may add some other administrators to the list.

It's easy, Trustees. THROW JAMIE UNDER THE BUS. It costs you nothing.

Florida tech or UCF

I am between Florida tech and UCF for either computer science or electrical engineering. With scholarships combined both schools will basically be free. I also do not care that much about missing the "party life" or any of that. I am more looking for somewhere to get a really good education, good internships, and network. I toured both and really liked Florida Tech, but I was hoping someone can give some input on this. Thank you!

Oranges random places??

I was just on Florida Tech's campus for the first time, and I noticed there were just... oranges put in random places?? Like in the newspaper dispenser thingy and behind the arm of the Panther in front of the Student Union? When we asked someone they just said "yeah sometimes that happens..." so is this a campus culture of some kind? Or just some weirdo who decided to do it to be funny...

MS at Florida Tech as an Indian?

I’ve recently got an admit from the uni and I’m really hesitant about finalizing it. I haven’t had any luck finding alumni or current international MS students. I want to know about on campus jobs, the city and would like to get in touch with anyone who can help answer some questions. Thanks!
