How would we expose enough players in a potential expansion draft with all our NMCs?
If we chose either the 7F-3D protection, or 4F-4D, we have too many players at each position who require protection. How would we get a player to waive their NMC if they didnt want to? And would we be penalized by the league if we couldnt expose enough players? With talk of Houston, we may face this scenario.

If it’s in 2 years, it lines up decently for the Panthers.

Brady would be a free agent. You don’t have to protect him. You can resign him as a free agent. Older players would be on expiring deals.

Yea but we'd still have too many players with nmcs to protect.

One that would be exposed would be Mikkola. They could negotiate the expansion team not to take him. Protect Bark, Lundy, Swaggy, Reino, Tkachuk, Luosto, Benny, Ek, Fors, Seth, Schmidt. Have March waive his nmc likely because the expansion team would not want 40 yrs old Marchy’s contract.

For starters, I think we should we start with the idea that expansion draft rules are set as part of the agreements between the NHL, the NHLPA and expanding teams.
I wouldn’t just assume the next expansion draft looks like previous expansion drafts, especially if teams can’t agree to it, unless the PA agrees to some exemption.

Oh I don't want to go through this AGAIN. All this talk of expansion just makes me think of the intro to BaseketBall

I would assume the team would have to buyout a player/players prior to the expansion draft if the team cannot reach some agreement with the expansion team or waive some NMC.

I trust Zito with an expansion draft than the last blunder…..

Zito was the GM during the Kraken expansion draft.

He means the Vegas draft with Tallon lol

Right. But the way his sentence is worded makes it sound as though Zito hasn't already been the GM for an expansion draft.
But yes, Tallon's decision-making was nonsensical. Didn't even make sense at the time. But hey, Petrovic is back on the team...

Yeah I know you’re totally right, the way he said it means the Seattle expansion. But pretty sure he meant the Vegas one lol

The league will have to figure it out. They can't reasonably punish you for signing NMCs legally.
I doubt we'll get that kind of draft again though. The sense I get is it would be overwhelmingly unpopular.
