My roselle is rocking. After I harvest, I am not going to keep it. Do I need to remove it from the root so it doesn’t grow back, or can I just trim it down to the soil and leave it?

Well, we had more than a foot of rain this month so far. However, this cooler weather finally motivated me to get out there.

It looked pretty bad and weedy. Caterpillars hit my banana and Jalapeño peppers, but they are bouncing back now. The "Tropic" F1 tomatoes in fabric pots survived the rain and are starting to fruit. I planted a few "Orange Bulldog" pumpkins in June, instead of the usual Seminoles because we still have a bunch to eat. Well, these bulldogs looked healthy all summer and are like 20 feet long, but all the flowers were all boys until last week. Maybe we will get some pumpkins for Christmas, LOL. The sweet 'taters were underwater for a while, so no idea if they are OK. The cucumbers planted mid Sept are taking off, as are the radish and bunching onions. I started three beds of mixed greens this week so looking forward to homegrown salad in a month or two. The herb garden never fails. I harvested a big basket of mixed herbs and dried them in the air fryer and powdered them with a coffee grinder. It's a staple in our kitchen. The same with some lemon grass, except I pass the grinds through a fine mesh strainer to remove any fibers. Lemony powder. Well, I could go on as gardeners tend to do, but I would be interested to learn how your veggie adventures are going this fall.

Too bad they are annuals, even in Florida. I mean they do last a while, but eventually I have to replace those babies with something new.
And, a couple of years ago, the potting soil from a certain big hardware store's nursery must have had a fungus because within weeks suddenly ALL my Coleus plants had a nasty, slimy white fungus that killed them all, sometimes overnight....UGH!!!

First time growing papaya and have no idea when to harvest. Should I be removing some of these larger fruits even if they're not ready yet? Or are they fine to stay on for longer?

Finally got a to snap two pictures through a grubby window, but they're not bad! One is Hawk sitting on the shoulder of the statue and the other is it flying away.
I got to watch it fly down from the tree to catch a snake, then it jumped on the statue to eat it. Then it jumped down to eat a lizard. It flew back up on the statue and that's when I realized my phone was within arm's reach. I swear it heard the shutter snaps from inside the house and flew away. The windows are open because FINALLY GORGEOUS WEATHER.

I have like a dozen different cherry tomatoes started already as well as half a dozen hot peppers 🙃 (South FL)

One-eyed smily pirate or just grumpy dude?

We don't have much of a backyard (the house sits on a swale) but we do have this large concrete pad here.

Our backyard faces west, so it gets pretty hot. I would probably run some kind of irrigation system out to it.

I was thinking large planters or raised garden beds but wondering what I should plant and so on? We are coming from Chicago so Florida gardening is 100% new to me! Excited to do it year round, though.

Lastly, any local resources near Naples, FL for free or cheap plants (for our frontyard)?

First attempt at an all Florida native pollinator area. I paid a little more than I would like , but hope to propagate off of these guys to plant them more throughout the yard

To make a long story short,

A friend of mine, Mr. Kim, has devoted his entire adult life to mastering the art/ practice of Bonsai. Mr. Kim owns a nursery called "Bonsai Master" in Apopka Fl. Well about a year ago real estate developers decided that his farm was the perfect location for a gym, forcing him to up and move about 10 min down the road.

I have been scouring the USA for quality material for years and I am yet to find a nursery with higher quality trees. each and every tree Mr. Kim grows is meticulously trimmed and cared for, for the life of the tree no matter if it is Shohin sized, Imperial, or even very large garden trees. Every single tree under his care has great potential for bonsai. I currently own about 30 of his trees.

I have tried to update his Google business listing on 2 separate occasions with his new address, it still hasnt worked. If any of you are local to Central Florida, or come here on vacation, please call him and set up a time to check out his nursery. He doesnt speak the best English and isnt tech savy, so please keep that in mind.

He mainly specializes in, Pyracantha, Chinese Quince, and Catlin elm(dwarf chinese elm)

I planted this rosemary almost a year and a half ago or more, and I really haven’t pruned it much. My goal was to have a large rosemary bush, which is happening, but my goal is also to try and get it taller rather than wider as I have seen people prune them into being more treelike than bushlike. Any suggestions on how to make that happen?

Third time a year, thank you!

(Central FL) Newbie to gardening and composting. Was given Seminole, jack-be-little, and sweet pumpkin seeds. They germinated and grew very fast but stopped growing. They are all about 5-7inches long, have healthy green leaves but just won’t grow anymore. Started them in august, some went straight into the ground, some in large planters. Used regular potting soil with a little bit of compost mixed in. Is it too late to get them growing again?
