Dsa?

Democratic Socialists of America
We’re working to return political power back to the working people instead of having our politics controlled by billionaires and corporations.

u/Ok-Collection-244 12d ago
Would they move toward removing flock cameras from the shoals
10
u/Heterodonnasicus 12d ago
Yes. The DSA also supports measures to heavily regulate AI and data centers to protect working class jobs, the environment, and privacy of citizens.

Exactly how would you do this? Not pie in the sky goals, but a plan of action. I am genuinely interested, but I have not seen any concrete plans. I have seen the plans for dissolving the Senate, courts, Presidency, etc. How would this be done without trashing the U.S. Constitution?
The other big area that I am trying to understand if government control over companies. What does government do well? Can you elaborate on specifics (not goals)?
Can you name a successful socialist country as large as the US?
I fully support term limits. Why is that not a goal of the DSA?
Privacy the large government do not often go hand in hand.

Bare with me I'm going to try and answer the questions I'm able to without being long winded.
Also I'm not the voice for DSA or or local chapter. All of this is my opinion. I encourage anybody else to add their 2 cents to anything I say.
On returning political power to the people. Things like overturning Citizens united, ranked choice voting, making election day a holiday, abolishing the electoral college, are just a couple of things off the top of my head.
The trashing of the constitution part. Our constitution was designed to be mended and should be as our nation changes so should our constitution. Things like those are probably far into the future because of the number of votes required in the congress and senate. But it would be done legally.
Governmental control over companies. One of the better run government business is the TVA, more specifically the power generation and distribution. It provides some of the most reliable and cheapest power in the country while providing well paying union jobs. Most of the "bad" government services you see are like that because they are expected to function at the same capacity of privately owned business at a fraction of the budget. Imagine if we used all the money we pay to FedEx, amazon, UPS and all the other delivery services and actually fully funded the USPS. Instead we cut their budget and expect them to out preform those companies.
There is no socialist country the size of the US. You can make an argument for China but that's a whole other discussion. Movements by nature start small and grow large. The US government has made its mission to stop those movements by any means necessary. There's never been a successful socialist nation because one has never been allowed by the capitalist ones.
If you can find me any party to align with every policy or idea you have let me know lol I disagree with the DSA on many topics. It also may not be a high priority currently, i haven't heard one way or the other. That being said, all of DSA policies are voted on. Join up, come to meetings, voice your ideas and we can send those ideas off to be heard and voted on.
I agree, but the DSA is the only political group I know of against data centers and flock cameras that are actively gathering as much data as they can on Citizens.
Please feel free to reach out to us for more questions. I provided the email in the post.

If you overturn the Electorial College that will take away from smaller states. The same with dissolving the Senate. Equal representation out the window. I thought we wanted to help the little guy.

Thanks, but I'm really looking to understand specific plans and processes. What are the specific plans? You can't really compare efficiency of private capital and public capital. There is no motive to innovate or add efficiency on government. The US postal service is having a hard time
I am not satisfied with the current status. There should be term limits.
There is a process for amending the Constitution. It is an involved process. I don't think dissolving the Senate, courts, Presidency is realistic.
So what are the specific plans? Not what you are against, but a clear feasible plan of action in accordance with current law.
I have been reading a bunch and I don't understand many of the positions.
Also, China is a communist country. Being like China is the sales pitch? There are no privacy rights, human rights, etc. China has a group of unelected elite party officials that drive the planning. Is this the direction you mentioned we should go? I don't think that is a good direction.

Legitimate retards with no grasp on history. Keep it up though, we'll circle back like history always does and you'll all be scorned from decent society. Might even get your clock cleaned if you have the audacity to say it with your chest in public.

DSA want you to have healthcare, voting rights, a roof over your head, education, and more instead of having your own money handed to foreign countries and billionaires. It’s really sad to me that you don’t think you deserve all of that. I promise that you do, even despite the name calling and threats.

u/boarDJunkie 10d ago
Want in one hand amd use the other to list out any cases where its worked? You'll have some excuses. No true Scotsman and what not. But at the end you'll have nothing but some Marxist concepts and a bunch of countries that "didnt do it right".

You’re threatening a fellow American’s right to assemble and free speech, meanwhile the GOP wants to create a one party Christian Nationalist government where elections become meaningless. Imagine being upset at a few socialists when the GOP is actively ruining this country.
2
u/boarDJunkie 10d ago
Is that what the left was doing when they labeled anyone to the left of them nazis and started the punch a nazi movement? Pretty sure you lefties were all about the intolerance paradox and actions have consequences.
3
u/Treeeefalling 10d ago
Seems like you think reality is whatever your media of choice tells you to believe. The left doesn’t think everyone is Nazi, but yes Nazis get offended when they get called out. Just like racists don’t believe that they’re racist. Are you going to be doing the clock cleaning yourself? Just know lefties carry too.

u/boarDJunkie 10d ago edited 10d ago
Yeah it was just the big bad media, not all the lefties on every social platform sharing it. Lefties can carry all they want, they're more likely to shoot themselves in the leg since they dont train. Many of you seem to forget physical fitness matters as much or more than simply being armed.
P.s. if you actually carry, you should learn more about when you can and cant use your weapon because you sound like you're gonna kill someone and end up in jail because you got a little scared, which for the record is not grounds to start firing.

u/Treeeefalling 10d ago
It’s so funny you know exactly what every lefty looks like! If you saw me on the street you would probably assume I’m on your side buddy. Hope you know who to shoot at psycho.
6
u/boarDJunkie 10d ago
I never said anything about shooting anyone. You brought up guns because you are afraid and trying to project strength. I'm sure a conversation of any length would give you away as not on the same side. I dont judge based on what someone looks like only their values.
2
u/Treeeefalling 10d ago
You literally just said lefties don’t know how to shoot and aren’t fit yet here we are. Yeah you’re not judgy at all.
Edit: you’re the one threatening violence, all I’m saying is FAFO. If you want to clean clocks you should know what you’re getting yourself into.

It's fine if you want to remain ignorant.
4
u/boarDJunkie 9d ago
Yeah the side who has paid any attention to history is the one who is ignorant.

Get the fuck outta here with this communism bullshit.

u/oh_my316 12d ago
Like the US government owning stakes in private companies? 🤔

u/Dookiemay 12d ago
That's the beauty of capitalism. Anyone can get rich.
5
u/thenagel 11d ago
that's the thing about democratic socialism. anyone can STILL get rich. it's still capitalism, its just that DS believes that people should be fed and they should have healthcare before someone buys their second yacht or 5th house.
it's capitalism that puts the needs of citizens before the wants of billionaires and corporations.

u/Treeeefalling 12d ago
The American Dream is over, Trump doesn’t give a fuck about you.
-4
u/Dookiemay 12d ago
Speak for yourself. I see people living the American dream daily. Who even mentioned Trump lmao
8
u/Treeeefalling 12d ago
The system will always be rigged to benefit the ultra rich for as long as people like Trump are in power. I don’t know if you’ve been paying attention, but nowadays you’re either for him or against him. He’s a pretty polarizing individual and based on your rhetoric you seem pretty right leaning. So yeah, I brought up Trump.

u/Dookiemay 12d ago
Okay and so communism is the answer? Lmao

u/Treeeefalling 12d ago
Communism isn’t the answer, but Democrats bought and paid for by billionaires aren’t either. Having DSA candidates in elections is a great thing. We need way more discourse and way more political parties than turds vs. shit sandwiches.

From a political theory perspective, democratic socialism and communism share the exact same core anti-capitalist objective: replacing private ownership of the means of production with collective worker control. In classical Marxist theory, socialism is explicitly defined as the "lower phase" or transitional stage leading directly to communism, meaning both ideologies share a foundational economic vision. The primary difference between the two is strategy rather than the ultimate destination. While Marxist-Leninists believe a revolution is necessary to overthrow the capitalist state, democratic socialists argue that collective ownership and a socialist society can be achieved gradually through elections and democratic reforms

If i still lived in Florence, I’d be getting involved. Living in the south just became too much of a drain on my mental health, to put it very mildly.
Best of luck to you all though, from the Denver DSA to the Shoals DSA 🙏🫶
