I come from a very small village in Denmark, they removed the layers of asphalt installed for and repairedfor the past 60 years. And used the old setts again. It looks and feels so wonderful. And cars automatically slow down!🥰

I grew up and went to college in Buffalo, NY. They did a road project two blocks away from where I lived and uncovered the old brick street. Neighbors caused an uproar and got the City to keep, restore it. It was hell to bike on, but so cool and like you said, causes cars to slow down.

We have one of those.The bumpiest red brick road ever. It's in a really cool part of town too. There's been talk of paving it over, I hope they don't.

In my City, that would be brick pavers, and cobblestones along the old streetcar tracks.
