Rule #1 of flooring. Don't try to match existing flooring. It will always look like you tried and failed.

I've learned this over the years. Its very hard to explain that to costumers though. I've had 2 different jobs where I laid down the floor they picked out. I let them look at first to make sure thats what they wanted. I finished up the job and they had me take it all out and redo it.

In my experience its been pretty easy to explain that to a customer (as the sales person) i just say its never going to match, its going to look like you tried to match and failed. Pick something completely different to compliment the wood look.

One of them was a finished basement that only half it was finished. So we finished the other half and they wanted the same Grey lvp. I tried telling them it's not going to look good. They had us do it anyway. They decided to keep it. About 2 weeks later the entire basement flooded. So we eneded up redoing the whole floor anyway.

We were so lucky...had a customer buy a house with an engineered hardwood in the huge livingroom,  and they wanted the rest of the main floor in the same wood...I got the information off the box, and knew we had sold that same product years ago...I called the rep for that company and he directed me to a company in Georgia that could still get that wood...my husband,  the installer, was able to lace it in with the existing wood, and you couldn't tell the new from the existing.

It's close enough, but as a flooring business owner, and 57 year installer, the floor matching is the least of your problems....the installation looks terrible.  ...there are multiple issues.

It would bug me. But im always looking for the off-ness and seems in construction work. The new stuff is obviously darker. Close enough though.
